• Proposal We have decided to create a music video to the song ‘I didn’t know my own strength’ by Whitney Houston. We have chosen this song because its not too slow, not too fast and it is really dramatic so our music video should be dramatic. Also we have some good ideas of what can be featured in the music video. After reading the lyrics thoroughly I know that the song is about the singer and no one else, it is about her own strength and how she has gone through life not fully believing in herself and now she realises she can do anything. Ideas for the music video…Have home footage from when the singer was younger. (Similar to the music video ‘grown girl’ by Beyoncé.)have footage of the singer in hard times during her life and times when she has felt weak or discouraged.A performance on stage, all dark background and the spotlight is on the singer so all eyes are on her.

And I… I didn't know my own strengthAnd I crashed down and I tumbled but I did not crumbleI got through all the painI didn't know my own strengthSurvived my darkest hour, my faith kept me aliveI picked myself back up, hold my head up highI was not built to breakI didn't know my own strengthThere were so many times I wonderedHow I'd get through the nightI thought I took all that I could takeI didn't know my own strengthAnd I crashed down and I tumbled but I did not crumbleI got through all the painI didn't know my own strengthMy faith kept me aliveI picked myself back up, I hold my head up highI was not built to breakI didn't know my own strengthI was not built to break, no, noI got to know my own strength

Lost touch with my soulI had nowhere to turn, I had nowhere to goLost sight of my dreamThought it would be the end of meI thought I'd never make it throughI had no hope to hold on toI, I thought I would breakI didn't know my own strengthAnd I crashed down and I tumbled but I did not crumbleI got through all the painI didn't know my own strengthSurvived my darkest hour, my faith kept me aliveI picked myself back up, hold my head up highI was not built to breakI didn't know my own strengthFound hope in my heartI found the light to life my way out of the darkFound all that I need here inside of meI thought I'd never find my wayI thought I'd never lift that weightI thought I would breakI didn't know my own strength

Lyrics These are the lyrics from the song the chorus is in blue and the different verses are in black. When the song opens with the first verse I think it should feature the singer on stage, this will be introducing the singer to the viewers straight away so it will be clear that the song is about her and because no one else will feature in the video it indicates that it is a personal song all about the individual singer. As the chorus comes in the song becomes more powerful and picks up the speed. For the first half of the chorus I think it should feature the singer on stage and then for the second half it should flash back to events in and through her life, this is when we would use the home videos.

Throughout the video, it will feature a strong dramatic performance of the singer on stage (spotlights on her), but also there will be flash backs of her life. They will be home videos and not great quality which I believe will give it a good effect. One of the choruses comes in really powerful, when the verse is leading up to this I had the idea that the singer will be looking at herself in the mirror really upset and distressed with light bruises around her shoulders and neck, she will look at her wedding ring, pull it off and throw it to the ground. Just as the ring hits the ground it will be a quick cut to her back onstage singing the chorus ‘I didn’t know my own strength’. The ending will be slow and fade out.
