First Response to the Brief

For the coursework for A2 , we have been set the task to create a music video

and digi-pack for an album. This task includes deciding on a band and song idea, whilst developing the practical skills of video editing and Photoshop in order to create a professional looking product. In this, my initial response.

I will list my personal ideas for the task ahead and explain why I have these ideas.

Song Idea The song I would like to use is

‘Ever Fallen In Love?’I think this late

70s English Punk will be great for

shot ideas for filming a band playing whilst

inspiring a sideline story which is a

convention of music

videos.

Due to the era the song was released in, the costume of the time is easy to recreate and would be recognizable to an audience as 70s English Punk.

With the song’s frequently repeated chorus it would make its learning simple

to make an accurate video match.

Band IdeaBasing an album design on ‘40 years of Buzzcocks’ would give a stable foundation for the different entry points we must create for the coursework.

I would like ‘Buzzcocks’

to be the band that

my coursework

is based around. As their iconic sound will be good to

create inspiration

Although Buzzcocks are a relatively old band, their name is familiar to younger generations because of the popular TV

show ‘Never mind the Buzzcocks’. This reference to the band in their title is an example of intertextuality and will help

expand the age range of the target audience for the product.

Album Idea

This would lay a strong concept

for the coursework

whilst giving an idea for the digi-

sleeve which I would

like to be a series of images of protests up to the current era.

Inspired by the Buzzcocks’ 40 tour, I would like to base the album on the greatest hits of

Buzzcocks at 40 years.

Album Design IdeaThis is my first draft of an album front cover.Due to the

popularity of ‘Never Mind

the Buzzcocks’ I would create an album title playing on the

fact that the actual band

are not as well known to younger

generations as the TV

show.

Looking at Album designs for ‘Buzzcocks’ previous albums, I have followed a similar look with one main image and a bright background. However when I create the final product, I will use Photoshop to add some more details.

Digi-Pak Design IdeaI would like my digi-pak design to have a colourful outside with images of protests and riots from the 70s until now (The running years of ‘Buzzcocks’) This is because I want all of the products created to relate to social change since the 70s.

DVD IdeaThe concept for my DVD Idea is to design a live show DVD with the contents based on all of the

Buzzcocks’ biggest tours.The front cover

will contain Buzz Words in order

to self-advertise, whilst

the back cover will have a

contents table with all the

shows which are involved on the

DVD.

This idea will also be based around the 40 years concept in order to create another synergistic product. As it will contain ‘The best of’ from the 40 years the band have been going.

Video IdeaThe jump between tempo when it reaches the chorus will make for easy editing as it will be clear when to make cuts.

For the video of ‘Ever Fallen in Love?’ I would like to create a mix of performing musicians and a

story concept following the conventions of music videos.

The story element would be based around a social issue of the 70s such as unemployment of young people, and the

rise of punk culture.

The slower

tempo of the

verses may be good to use for

the story element.
