Historical Background
“Justitia”- in Latin means justice “In Mundo”- in Latin means in world Bishops around the world would meet in Rome
every 3 years to deliberate and discuss an issue of great concern to the church.

The bishops created this document because of the following:
- influence of the modern industrial and technological order that favors the concentration of wealth, power, and decision- making in the hands of a small public or private controlling group.
- forces of division and hatred are increasing in strength.

Urbanization- refers to a process in which the increasing proportion of a population lives in cities and the suburbs of cities that caused:
- Lack of housing
- Lack of infrastructure services
- Lack of property rights

Came out of the Synod of Bishops in 1971 This is the shortest encyclical or document in
tradition, but in spite of its conciseness, it is regarded as a strong influence on social involvement among Catholics.
Obviously, it focused on the need for justice, the action the Church can take and the hope of salvation.

Cites the cry of the oppressed and the challenge that such a cry has had on the Church

Christians should act to raise their family's life and testify to the power of the Spirit through their action.
God and His Word should always be present in the center of human lives and situations.
Justice attains its inner fullness only in love so we should love one another.
