FINISHING OF HARDWOOD MOULDINGS & WOODCARVINGS

• Caulk, fill and sand well.

• Apply quality paints or stains.

• Sand between coats as needed

• If staining Poplar, two applications of stain may be needed for depth in color and to get good coverage.

• Glazes, Gold Leaf and Antiquing are applied after paint or stain has finish coats of sealer (lacquer, etc.).

• Apply Glaze, wipe to desired coverage and apply final coat of sealer to create sheen and depth.

• Always finish a sample before starting if multi-step finishes are involved.

PAINT • GLAZE • STAIN • FAUX FINISH

Our poplar mouldings are ready to accept the finish of yourchoice. The ornamental overlay on our embellished poplar

mouldings has the same porosity as the wood, allowing the stainto penetrate to the same depth and creating a uniform

appearance. Stained poplar can match cherry, birch, maple,walnut, mahogany and many other hardwoods and softwoods..

LARGE COMBINATION DETAILS

Our Mon Reale® LCD’s offer large-scale proportions for today’s homes and commercial projects. We offer many stylesand sizes using mouldings and carvings from our complete line. Although many of these LCD’s are of a large scale,they can also be viewed as “smaller proportional elements within” the LCD. This is helpful if you need acomplementary smaller cornice, or a wide frieze cornice.

Many of these LCD’s utilize our Mon Reale® friezes (FR#). If you like the scale of an LCD, but you want a differentfrieze, just change out the frieze, and leave the rest. If you like an LCD, but you want a different crown in one part,just change that out. These examples below are to inspire you to take 30 LCD’s and view them as 200 elements ormore.

Curved MouldingsSolid Wood or Flexible Resins

FINISHING ULTRA-FLEX MOULDING

Our Ultra-Flex mouldings are easy to install and finish. They are manufactured with a latex-based primer coat. This helps the finish to adhere to the profile. There are numerous finishes on the market, and many ways to apply them. There are also climactic reasons that can alter how finishes are applied and dry. Most of the time, your resins can finish with the same process as you are finishing your wood. Please test a small sample to see that the finishes you are applying adhere.

TO PAINT

1) Fill and sand like wood, using a filler that will adhere to an oil based man-made product. 2) Apply a base coat of Latex Primer or Latex enamelunderbody. This seals the resin! DO NOT APPLY OIL-BASE OR LACQUER UNDERCOATERS. 3) Sand if needed. 4) Apply Latex Enamel or oil-based enamel likethe other wood mouldings and finish the same.

TO STAIN

1) Fill and sand like wood, using a filler that matches stain color and will adhere to an oil-based man-made product. 2) Apply a pre-packaged “BaseCoat Latex Glazing Liquid". Many manufacturers offer these specific finishes for this purpose. After applying, wipe gently with a clean cloth.3) After the glaze has been wiped to the desired appearance, it must be allowed to dry and then sealed with the same top coat being used on thewood. 4) We strongly recommend that first-time users practice on a piece of scrap resin moulding before finishing the moulding being used onthe job. “ZAR" stain is a good recommended stain, available at most Ace Hardware Stores.

White River Hardwoods acknowledges that there are many techniques to finishing man-made products, and express no warranty for such.

• Solid Wood Curved Mouldings can be manufactured for all Casings, Jambs, Panel Moulds and Mon Reale® casings and crownsup to 5 1/2" wide. These are offered in Poplar, Red Oak, Cherry, Mahogany, etc., where only solid wood will work due tostainability or personal preference. These are offered for traditional or ornamentally embossed™ profiles.

• Ultra-Flex Resin mouldings can be manufactured for Crown, Case, Base, Chairrail and Panel Mouldings. Ultra-Flex mouldingscan be painted or stained and will offer a cost savings over solid wood. Many mouldings on curved wall application are onlyavailable in Ultra-Flex.

• The maximum length of Ultra-Flex is 12', minimum length is 5' and all resin are sold by the whole foot (no half feet).

• Ultra-Flex can be used for interior and exterior work. When used as exterior trim, opulent applications can be applied withcomplete weatherability.

• Original Ultra-Flex moulds are cast from Poplar. See Price List for those available in Red Oak.Customer is responsible for moulding charges when that mould has not been cast yet.

INSTALLATION OF MOULDINGS

• INSTALLATION OF DOOR CASINGS: Cut head casings first so thatornamentally embossed™ pattern on side casing will miter into head casing.Center pattern so it miters evenly at both corners.

• INSTALLATION OF WINDOW CASINGS: Follow door casings but install awindow stool to add beauty and to avoid having to match four embellishedmitered corners (matching four mitered corners is easy if embossing isdelicate in nature).

• INSTALLATION OF CROWNS, BASES, CHAIRRAILS, ETC.: First install anyoutside corners and work back into inside corners. If a single moulding hastwo embossings, match the largest embossing first. If a moulding has dentiland embossing, match the dentil first and let the embossing match as wellas possible. With Mon Reale® and multiple patterns, you may have to makeseveral “adjusting cuts” to find the best pattern match.
