YEAR 6 CANBERRA EXCURSION

Year 6 Students last week participated in an education tour

of the national capital, Canberra. Students were given the

opportunity to participate in a variety of educational

programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture,

heritage and democracy. The Australian Government

recognises the importance of all young Australians being

able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and

Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the

cost of the excursion the Australian Government has

contributed funds under the Parliament and Civics

Education Rebate program towards the cost. The rebate,

which was deducted from the cost of the excursion, is paid

directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

~ WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT ~

Mufti day – Friday, 9th December

Our school is holding a 5c fundraiser to help break a

world record and raise funds for The Garvan Institute

Australia.

Goal:

To break the world record for the longest line of coins

ever! Our school is hoping to donate as many metres of

5c coins as we can.

$2.90 = 1 metre of 5c coins

Donations can be any coin as the

Royal Australian Mint will convert all

donations into 5c coins for the actual

attempt in Canberra early next year.

Start collecting your coins ready to

bring to school.

This is a fundraiser for the Love Your Sister charity -

www.facebook.com/loveyoursister/

The current record stands at 75.4kms and is held

by a town in Austria.

All funds raised go to The Garvan Institute – so we will

be supporting science and cancer research.

Deputy Report

Wax Museum Well, what a surprise to hear Kororo was inundated with

so many well-known characters from novels students

have read. Last Monday 5AM conducted a Wax Museum,

which would put Madam Tussaud to shame. Students

transformed into famous characters as part of their

characterisation unit for English. Once in place classes

were invited to visit the Wax Museum and hear all about

the characters.

Kindergarten Orientation

How fabulous it was to see so many soon to be Kororo

Kids visiting our school last Thursday and Friday. Over the

course of the four days that Kindergarten Orientation is

carried out around 105 new students will visit our school

to get a taste of what 2017 has in store for them. You

may like to also remember that for many parents it is also

their first experience as a parent of a new child to school.

Remember how daunting it was when you were in their

shoes? So if you see a new Kindergarten parent making

their way around our school you might like to give them

a smile or just say hi. I am sure they will appreciate it and

it might just make the nerves they too are feeling,

dissipate a little.

Carols by Kororo Light

Christmas carols will be held this year on Tuesday 6th December under the COLA. The BBQ sausage sizzle will commence at 6.30pm, with carols commencing at 7pm. Please pre-order sausages and drinks via the Order Form provided in the newsletter. Donations for the Food or Gift Drive can be made on the night in lieu of an entry fee. Helpers are needed for the BBQ from 6pm-6:30pm and 6:30pm-7pm. Please call the office and leave your name and number if you can lend a hand on the night.

Christmas Raffle

Many great prizes to be won this year!! Raffle ‘tickets’ will be for sale in the school each morning. In the spirit of Christmas, $1 will give the student a star to pin on the Christmas board and an entry to win prizes in the raffle. Tickets to the raffle will also be available during the Carols evening with all prizes will be drawn on the night. If you would like to donate a gift certificate or items we can add to the raffle please ring Aimee White – 0405 800 795.

Food / Christmas Drive

We love to give as well as receive at this time of year! Between now and the last week of term, students are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation or small gift for the tree, to their classroom. Each item will receive a ticket for the raffle as well as a count towards their class total. The class that brings in the most items will receive a pizza lunch for their efforts! The non-perishable food items need to be in date and the small new un-opened toy labelled with male/female and age. All the goods will be donated to help out local families and their children this Christmas morning.

School Uniform Shop

The coming weeks are a good time to purchase school uniforms for next year with the shop being open Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:45am. The school uniform shop will also be open on Friday 27th January from 9am-12pm prior to the start of school. It is expected to be a busy day. Remember the shop accepts cash only. See the school website for full price list. We also need a few more shop volunteers if you can help out even one morning a month it would be appreciated. Please email Kate at [email protected] All good quality clean second hand uniforms to donate to the shop will be gratefully received.

And a really BIG thank you to Rachel George for her many years of co-ordinating the uniform shop.
