Goss From The Boss

The cold weather has begun to „bite‟ in Goulburn and it is important that our students keep warm. Whilst in class this is not an issue as the new heaters work extremely well and efficiently. Nevertheless, between classes and during recess and lunch it is important to rug up. Mulwaree prides itself on our uniform and the

majority of students show that pride by wearing full school uniform every day. This includes woollen jumpers and fleecy lined tops. Uniforms can be purchased through the canteen and if any family has trouble with this, they can contact me confidentially to organise support for a uniform. Let‟s keep warm as well as wear the uniform with pride. Both the U14 Rugby League and Hockey teams were knocked out of their respective competitions during the week. The Rugby League team played a very good (and big) Bulli High School team in the Regional Semi Final. Our boys held their own against Bulli for the majority of the game but were overrun late in the game. The Open Boys Hockey Team won their first round game against Crookwell but were beaten by Goulburn High in the second round. Both teams performed very well and were magnanimous in defeat showing great sportsmanship. This was a credit to them and their coaches, Mr Dunn and Mr Stevenson. Finally we held our annual Athletics Carnival last Friday. Despite the cold wind, it was an exciting and excellent day. House colours abounded and all students were involved and participated in the variety of events available. With the wind at their backs, a number of records were certainly threatened. Year 12 ran a great barbeque and the canteen sold out of hot food. This is an important day in our calendar as it brings the school together in such a positive atmosphere. I would like to thank Mr Dunn (again) and his team, Ms Cook and Mrs Roberts and Year 12 for the barbeque, Julie White and Barb Howard for our canteen and of course, the staff and students for making the day so good. Mr Purcell Principal

Chappo’s Thought For The Week Blowing it No matter where you are at this moment, there is nothing in your past or your present that can‟t be used for something good. Maybe you‟ve veered off course - we all have at one time or another. Take a close look at those in life who you admire the most and you‟ll discover that “blowing it” isn‟t unusual. It‟s actually part of the learning curve and it‟s not only these things that help to shape you into the person you should be, but you may be able to use it to help someone else. There is a saying “learn from mistakes, preferably other people‟s” – think about that and either learn from other people‟s mistakes yourself, or allow others to learn from your mistakes.

Senior Social On Friday 14th June we will be running a Senior Social. The theme for this social will be HORROR. Tickets will be on sale in D7 for $3!! NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE GATE!! Hope you can all make it !!!! All students wishing to attend the social are

required to have a pre-paid ticket. No ticket or record of purchase means NO ENTRY. Tickets will be on sale at lunch the week before the social in D7. You may buy your ticket any day.

Any student who misses out on purchasing a ticket must see Mrs Cranston and entry may be granted on a circumstantial basis. Entry to the social will be via the staff car park gate. All gates will be locked by 7.50pm soon after the start of the social. Parents of students who buy a ticket and do not attend, will be

contacted. Any student needing to leave the school grounds before the completion of the social will require parental permission in the form of a note, which should be sighted by the Deputies/Principal no later than Friday morning. These students will exit the school via the staff car park gate and will be accompanied by a teacher. At the completion of the social, the staff car park gate will be re-opened for

students to exit. Therefore, we are asking parents not to make arrangements to pick up their children earlier than 10.30pm (unless prior arrangements have been made with the school). In case of an emergency, which requires parents to pick their child up earlier than 10.30pm, please contact the school on 0419 632 841.

STAR at Mulwaree The STAR Project at Mulwaree is aimed at improving the quality of student responses in the HSC, particularly in the area of more complex thinking. The main feature of this Project is an organisational matrix developed by a teacher called Max Woods from Sydney. There are 3 key features to this MATRIX. It aids the organisation of thoughts in preparation

for writing a response. It assists indicating the depth required for various

responses. It enables strong connections to be made between

the learning in class and the responding in exams. Part of the value in the approach is it shows the connections between subjects which enables the reinforcement of key concepts across the school. At the same time, we have introduced a number of key strategies in Years 7 – 10 that will provide a solid foundation for senior years. The focus here is to show students the connections between subjects, particularly in terms of paragraph structure and the approach a response should take. You may begin to see this in some tasks under the banner of S.E.A.L. In coming weeks, we will be celebrating our successes by introducing a “STAR of the Week” who will be a student who has shown a considerable improvement in the quality of their extended responses. For anyone wishing to know more, there will be a short presentation at the next P&C meeting. More information will be published in the school newsletter in the coming months or feel free to contact Mr Willis at the school. Alan Willis Head Teacher Teaching and Learning
