Many parents and carers may not be aware that our school

is quite a multicultural community, in which we have students enrolled who come from a wide range of language

backgrounds. We cover the globe with cultural diversity with students recently arriving from such countries as

Japan, India, France, Indonesia and Hungry. For these

students, school starts out as a slightly daunting experience however it is one in which the skills of communication are

quickly enhanced.

At Kororo Public School we have a part time support teacher to provide intensive tuition in English for students

newly arrived in Australia. A newly arrived student is a

learner, enrolling in school within six months of arrival or, for kindergarten students, within 18 months of arrival.

These students are provided with an intensive English program which supports the language learning needs and

provides a pathway to access school learning outcomes.

This involves providing a personalised learning approach targeted to the needs of each student.

The school now

has a total of 9.4% of students from

l a n g u a g e

backgrounds other than English. How

lucky are we to h a v e t h i s

wonderful cultural

exposure and blend making up

our school community? The photo included is a perfect example: Jessie and his mum sharing their French culinary

skills with other students!

Enjoy your week whatever you are doing!

call us on 6653 6201 or come into the office to pick up

an application form/information pack. There will be an
