As you may, or may not be aware we have an ongoing issue at Eglinton Public School regarding bus drop off and pick up times. Specifically: the buses that bring some of our children to school arrive prior to school being open at 8.50am and pick them up post school closing 3.55pm.

This has been an concern of our P+C for many years and previously we have had Action Groups attempting to address this issue with the Department of Education, the Department of Transport and Local Member Paul Toole. With no success. The complexity of this issue means there is no easy solution - otherwise it would have been fixed many years ago.

But we haven't given up. The safety of our children is paramount to us. We'd like to give it another go......

If you are interested in finding out more information, being involved in our Action Group or discussing the issue in more detail please contact the P+C at [email protected], leaving your contact details (email preferred) or speaking to Sophie Anderson directly.

We look forward to working with our Community to find an effective solution for Our School.

Eglinton Public P&C

On the last day of Term 3, the students of Eglinton Public School took part in our annual Pedal Push, and what a success it was! Eglinton Public School would like to say a big thank you to Stephen Brydon from Cog 'n' Spoke for running the bike check day, without which Pedal Push could not have been possible. We would also like to thank Nestle Purina for providing us with the prizes for our colouring and design competitions, and McDonalds Bathurst for kindly donating certificates and coupons for the students.

The children should all be commended on their behaviour and the way they represent-ed themselves and our school out on the ride and around the school grounds. Lastly, we would like to thank all the parents and volunteers who took time out of their day to come in and help our students. Our Pedal Push day would not have been successful without all of our volun-teers! Thank you!

Our school will be participating in the ‘Day For Daniel’ program on Friday, October 28, a concept introduced by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. The foundation was formed by Daniel Morcombe’s parents after Daniel, aged 13, was tragically abducted and killed in 2003. The program is designed to protect our students from dangers that are present in our community. On the ‘Day For Daniel’ each class will focus on an aspect of child safety and develop an increased awareness of how to recognise a danger and what to do when confronted by such a danger.

To mark this significant day students are encouraged to wear a piece of red clothing.

This is the third year of the program in our school and one we see has an important one to continue.

Parents are encouraged to discuss with their children the content they have worked with and follow up the important messages delivered in the classroom.

We will also be visited by the Australian Federal Police and their ‘Tweed to the Territory’ tour on Tuesday, October 25 where they will be giving a presentation to our senior students to further support the Daniel Morcombe Foundation message.

There are no costs involved with these programs

Key Messages - DANIEL MORCOMBE FOUNDATION ‘TWEED TO THE TERRITORY’

Generic Day for Daniel

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation (DMF) was established by parents Bruce and Denise Morcombe in 2005 following their son’s abduction and murder in December 2003 whilst waiting to catch a bus on the Sunshine Coast.

The DMF has two main aims; to educate children on how to stay safe in a physical and online environment and to support young victims of crime.

Day for Daniel (D4D) is to be held on Friday 28 October and is a national day of action to raise awareness of child safety, protection and harm prevention.

'Wear Red and Educate' is the theme for D4D to encourage schools, businesses and communities across Australia to take action and conduct child safety activities in their local communities to help keep kids safe.

The initiative strives to empower children to ‘Recognise, React and Report’ if they feel something is not right.

D4D is also an opportunity for Australians to make a statement that crimes against children are not accepta-ble in modern Australia.

This year marks the 12th anniversary of the DMF and the 11th anniversary of D4D.

Educational safety

Always put your safety first — 'Recognise, React and Report'.

Be aware of what is happening around you. Your body will sense danger, it is important to listen to, trust, and act on these instincts, giving you the best opportunity to remove yourself from the situation and feel safe again.

Establish an Adult Safety Network — a list of five adults that you can trust to turn to for help in the event of an uncomfortable situation.

Tweed to the Territory

The Tweed to the Territory roadshow tour is a joint initiative between the AFP, the DMF and Mission Australia which will take place in October.

The DMF’s truck ‘Big Red’ will tour primary schools in regional NSW and the ACT delivering child safety presentations.
