The writer of Ecclesiastes 11: 6 says: In the morning sow your seed, and at evening do not let your hands be idle: for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good.” In the Bible, the common occupation of sowing seed is
frequently used as a symbol of witnessing for the Lord. Unlike an actual former, however, Christian seed-sowers are to immerse in their occupation continually, day after day, morning and evening, everywhere they go, but get your quiet times and rest too. The wise preacher in Ecclesiastes says: “Send out your bread upon the waters for after many days, you will get it back.” The sowing is often difficult, but is necessary before the fruit can grow, and the promise is that those who sow in tears, will reap with shouts of joy.” (Psalms 126:5).
Frequently, others may reap the fruit of our seed-sowing labors (or we may reap the fruit of theirs),
but that is alright, for Jesus himself said that: “one sows and another reaps,” so that “sower and reaper may reoice togther “ (John 4: 37 & 36). Even the Apostle Paul said in I Corinthians 3 this: “I have planted, Apollos (my associate) watered; but it’s God who gave the increase! So friends, let God work through us to be sowers of God’s seed on this earth.
Some seed, faithfully sown, may not seem to grow at all. In Jesus’ wonderful parable of the sower, much of the seed fell by the wayside or on rocky or weed-infested ground, but other fell into good ground, and brought for the fruit (Matthew 13: 8). It is our job as Christians to be sure that the seed we sow is good seed, wherever we go in life. By word, by living, by giving to others, by listening to others whatever is on their mind or in their heart, by our very presence with others. By praying for others’ concerns for this church, for this community-especially the illegal drug epidemic in Lackawanna County. Pray for this nation and pray for this world’s crisis with terrorism. Sow good seed by whatever you say or do or even think! Then trust God to bring into the open the fruit according to God’s own will.
Isaiah says: “Happy will you be, who sows beside every stream, who let the ox and the donkey range freely.” (Isaish 32:20) so for that reason, sow in the morning and in the evening and God will
prosper our faithfulness in God’s good way and time. Frinds, just trust what God says as recorded in the Holy Bible.
Have a fruitful Summer!
In Love,
Pastor Ken

Vacation TimeSomeone has said, “Vacation is what you take when you can’t take what you’ve been taking any longer.” There are good reasons to take a vacation every year: spending time with friends and loved ones, experiencing physical and mental refreshment, enjoying changes in scenery and routine, and preparing for another year of productivity.
Please enjoy your vacation! Try to be faithful to the Lord by attending church while you’re away, if you have the opportunity.
Just remember that during vacations and weekend getaways, you’re especially missed by your friends at church. The work of the church suffers because no one can fill your place of responsibility quite like you.
God’s work goes on all summer long. Your presence and gifts are needed to enable the church to be strong and vigorous throughout the entire year. When you’re away, please bring or send your offering before you go. wonderful summer!
Prayers and Concerns of our Church Family
A Prayer For Our Church
Lord Jesus, we pray that you will somehow give us ears to hear, hearts to love and wills devoted
to serve; that in the days to come this congregation may be a congregation of people who know you; that this place may be an oasis,
a place where people come to find out about you, where lives are straightened out and made whole, where people find the peace that passes
understanding. Give us, we pray, a heart to desire these things above all else…
through Jesus Christ. Amen.
We keep in special prayer:Sarah Palermo Claire Wehrle Marilyn CasalSara Martinelli Norma Mecca Betty Fitch Kerri Solsman Helen Weaver Bobby WalshAmy Ritter – sister to Amber, who is battling an illness….and those with needs that may be unknown to us.
Congratulations! to Griffin Gerchman, who graduated from USMA at West Point and was
commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army. Griffin is the son of Mark and Liz Gerchman, and grandson of Claire and the late Charles Wehrle.

PATRIOTIC TRIVIAAs we celebrate America’s birthday, it’s interesting to note that clergymen wrote both the Pledge of Allegiance and the hymn “My Country ’Tis of Thee.” Rev. Francis Bellamy wrote the pledge in 1892. Rev. Samuel Francis Smith wrote the hymn in 1831. Both men were Baptist ministers.
The pledge was first used in public schools in 1892 during Columbus Day observances. “My Country ’Tis of Thee” was used as a national song before “The Star-Spangled Banner” was named America’s national anthem in 1931.
May we think of freedom not as the right to do as we please but as the opportunity
to do what is right.” —Peter Marshall

On June 15-17, Bonnie Forbes and Jean Biggar attended the
Gathering of the Presbyterian Women in the Synod of the
Trinity in Altoona. The theme of the Gathering was “Created to
Shine”. 117 women representing the 16 presbyteries in our synod attended.
Each year there is a special Synod Mission Offering. More than $10,000 was presented to La Escuelita or the Little School House in Nicaragua to build a second floor on the primary school. The 2017-18 offering is for Lily’s Place in Huntington, WV, which provides medical care to infants suffering from Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS-withdrawing from drugs used during pregnancy) and offers non-judgmental support, education and counseling services to families and caregivers.
We participated in five worship services and three of the one hour workshops including Hebrews Bible Study, Human Trafficking, Anointing, Leadership training, Connecting through Play, Praying with Color, and the USA Mission Experience. The Rev. Susan Wonderland, Synod Transitional Executive Presbyter, spoke about shining the light of Christ through our community of women in a changing world. The 300th Anniversary of the Synod will be celebrated on September 17.

Storms cause problems in the Midwest and South
LOUISVILLE – A series of storms over the past few
months have caused a number of problems for residents across the Midwest and the South. From early April, thousands have been left without power while some businesses and churches have been damaged by fallen trees, high winds and flooding. The biggest challenge in the past weeks has been the slow process of getting disaster declarations and movement from disaster relief agencies in the
communities. Because of ground saturation, the water has been slow to recede, making it difficult for crews to come in and clean up.
“PDA has worked to reach out and support
those in the path of the storms, offering initial support to eight presbyteries,” said Jim Kirk, PDA associate for national response. “The initial offer has resulted in three National Response Team deployments and two emergency grants awarded.” Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is able to respond to emergencies because of gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing and designated gifts. Our 2017 One Great Hour Offering was $1406.00.

Essential PrayerPrayer is as natural an expression of faith as breathing is of life; and to say a man lives a life of faith and yet lives a prayerless life is every bit as inconsistent and incredible as to say that a man lives without breathing. He that lives a prayerless life lives without God in the world. How can you expect to dwell with God forever if you so neglect and forsake him here?
The Gift Of Grace
Grace is something you can never get but only be given. The grace of God means
something like: Here is your life. You might never have been, but you are because the party wouldn’t have
been complete without you. Here is the world. Beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don’t be
afraid. I am with you. Nothing can ever separate us. It’s for you I created the universe. I love you.
There’s only one catch. Like any other gift, the gift of grace can be yours only if you reach out and take it. Maybe being able to reach and take it is a gift too.
