Pastor’s NotesI had a very busy and exciting weekend, we

had 11 couples last Friday validate their marriage in the Catholic Church, Bishop Mark O’Connell was the official witness to their marriage Congratulation! We will keep them in our prayers. Then last Saturday I concelebrated with Cardinal Sean O’Malley to celebrate the 50th Restoration of the Permanente Dioconate in the United States of course our Deacon Joe Belmonte was honored. We are very lucky to have him here at St. Anthony’s. He has served here for 38 years may God Bless him.

This Saturday I have been invited to celebrate with Cardinal O’Malley at St. Agnes Church in Reading at the 4:00 PM Mass. Cardinal wants to say thank you to all the Church in the four regions who went over in the Catholic Appeal drive, we were one who has succeeded our goal thanks to all of you who continue to be so generous.

I see that we got off to a good start with our Grand Annual Collection I can’t express how much I thank you for you continue generosity. I understand that many of you did not receive my letter who is on our envelope system they will be going out in the next week. My apologies for that.

Again, thank you to all who have contributed this weekend.Ah! There goes the bell this week no macaroni and meatballs just a boring chicken sandwich.

Presence of God

We all go to different shrines as pilgrims to get the blessings of God. We strongly believe when the blessing (Presence) of God is with us, we will be victorious and prosperous in all our endeavors. It is the custom of the people of Israel to bless another person saying, “Lord be with you” when he or she goes to long journey and involves in important activities. Even today the priest greets or blesses the people of God saying, “Lord be with You” both in the beginning and end of the Eucharistic celebration. Above all Scripture provides endless examples of how the presence of God empowers his children, Abraham, Moses, Joseph, Joshua, David and totally the people of Israel to live for Him.

Mother Mary always has a special veneration throughout the centuries in the life of catholic church. The only reason is that God is always with her. The angel Gabriel greets her, “Hail favored one! The Lord is with you.” (Lk. 1:28). When Mary visited Elizabeth the infant in the womb of Elizabeth leaped for joy (Lk. 1: 44). The reason for joy is that God is with Mary. In the book of Zephaniah, the prophet instructs the people of Israel to be Joyful and fearless because the king of Israel, the Lord is in your midst (Zep. 3:14-15).

All the great personalities in the bible were joyful and fearless in spite of hardships and sufferings in and around them. Because they felt the presence of God with them. In the same way, Mary, despite so many problems and mysteries in her heart was always joyful and fearless because God is with her. It is very clear that the presence of God always makes us joyful and fearless.

The people of Israel and few great personalities were defeated by their enemies and led fearful life when they were in sin. Let us remove all the obstacles from our lives to feel the presence of God to lead a joyful and fearless life.

Prayer: Almighty God, I thank you for your powerful presence in my life. Your presence always brings joy despite of trials and tribulation in and around me. I feel sorry for my sins. Bless me to be in your presence throughout my life. I ask this in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Faith Formation Update

"Oh, when the saints, go marching in, oh when the saints go marching in! How I want to be in their number! Oh, when the saints go marching in!"I wish all of you a blessed All Saints' Day! This weekend, all of our children will learn about the feast of All Saints in their classes. We will pray together a Litany of the Saints in our Gathering in the Chapel and I look forward to seeing some of the children dressed as their favorite saint!

Upcoming events:     The children will be bringing home the calendar for the month of November this weekend. We have our planning meeting on Saturday, November 3 at 10:00 in the Faith Formation building for our annual Breakfast with Santa. Please come and join us as we plan for this special family event!  There will be NO CLASSES on November 11, for the Veteran's Day holiday! All of our children will create cards and letters in their classes on November 4 which will be delivered to the Chelsea Soldiers' Home!   On November 17, we will need a few volunteers to help set up the hall for the Family Teaching Mass on November 18th. We'll meet in the Hall at 5:30 and it should only take a half hour or so to set up the chairs. Please help us. We appreciate your help!Sunday, November 18th: Regular schedule of classes for grades 1 and 2! Mass that day for all children and families for children in grades 1 through Confirmation 2 will take place at 10:00 in the Hall. Students in grades 3-8 should plan on attending the Family Mass that day as their class. Also at this Mass we will have our annual Food Drive to benefit the Revere Food Pantry. Please send in a donation of non-perishable food to bring up during the Offertory at the Teaching Mass that day!

You are always in my prayers!

A Catholic's Guide to Halloween!

Halloween is short for All Hollow’s Eve. It is the vigil of All Saints Day!   Halloween is connected with the time of the church's year when the living honor all the dead in Christ: all the saints in heaven, as well as the holy souls in purgatory who are on their way to heaven.  In the year 844 AD, Pope Gregory III transferred the feast of All Saints from May 13th to November 1st to coincide with the dedication of a chapel that was dedicated to all the saints in heaven in St. Peter's Basilica!  In medieval times, churches often displayed the bones and relics of saints on the eve of All Saints' Day!  Here in America, English, Irish and French immigrants brought a variety of their Catholic customs about All Saints' Day and its vigil (All Hollow’s Eve)  Dressing up as saints was a custom brought by the French! Jack-o-Lanterns come from the Irish who carved turnips and put candles inside of them to light the dark fall nights and from the English we get the custom of trick-or-treating as they went from door to door begging for "Soul Cakes" (doughnuts) promising to pray for the departed loved ones of those who gave them treats!

Home Blessing

The center of worship for a family is often the home, perhaps the holiest place there is. The home is where you gather with family to eat, to raise a family, to read the word of God. Jesus said, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him” (John 14: 23).

If you would like to have your home blessed new or old please call the rectory to set up an appointment that works for you. 781-289-1234

Confirmation NewsDo not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Rom 12/2)

Commitment to God is an Act, not a Word. When it comes to God’s commands, the issue is not clarity; it’s commitment. The Christian life is much more than just an insurance policy against hell. It is a way of life. It is a manner of living that demands commitment. Jesus, who is not only our savior and Lord was also the model that we are to follow in living life. He showed the ultimate example of commitment to us when He willingly went to the cross. His commitment to the heavenly Father paved a way for us to have the Salvation. It is our Christian conviction that we commit ourselves to God and His ways we make ourselves to inherit the joy of the Salvation. St. Paul before committing himself to God and His ways, was a persecutor but after his commitment he became a powerful witness of God’s love and care. He got a new, wonderful and remarkable shape when he conformed his life to Christ. Rick Warren says “Nothing shapes your life more than the commitments you choose to make”. Let us joyfully commit ourselves to God that we may shape our life to enjoy the blessings of the Salvation for ourselves and be the channel of blessing to others.

October 28, 2018 is the “Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time”. This Sunday our confirmation first year students will be introduced to our faith community and formally initiated into the Confirmation Program through the “Introduction and Initiation Ceremony” at the 12 Noon Mass. And in the same Mass our second year Confirmation students will have the “Commitment Ceremony” through which they will renew their commitment to do the Confirmation Program and become the powerful tool of God’s love and care.

All the parents and sponsors are requested to be at the main church half an hour early before the Mass (11:30 AM) with the Confirmation Candidates to have the rehearsal for the ceremonies.Right after the 12 Noon Mass, both the first- and second-year candidates have their classes in the faith formation building.

All the Confirmation Candidates are requested to do the sign-up sheets kept in the vestibule.

If you have any question or concern please call me on my cell phone 781-244-9162.Thank you.Fr. Xavier
