WELCOME BACK BREAKFAST/ PARENT TEACHER CLASS INFORMATION (Repeat)
A Welcome Back Breakfast which includes a Parent/ Teacher information session will be held on Friday 15th February. Breakfast will be available from 8.00am until 8.40am. A gold coin donation is requested to support Stewart House. Each year 1,800 public school children in need, including stu-dents from Chertsey PS, come to Stewart House from many parts of NSW and the ACT. During their stay, children are provided with optometric, dental and medical treatment as well as emotional support. This is balanced with health and educational programs and out of school activities to boost their self-esteem and to promote a healthier lifestyle. The NSW Department of Education and Communities pro-vides infrastructure and staffing support for this school. All others costs associated with the children’s' stay are met from charitable donations such as direct deductions from teachers’ salary and fundrais-ing efforts from public schools.
Immediately following the breakfast we ask you take the opportunity to meet your child’s new
class teacher in their classroom. This will conclude at 9.30am. Should you have more than one
child at our school we suggest you select just one class to visit. Children will bring home a class infor-
mation sheet for those parents/carers who were unable to attend the information session. It is also rec-
ommended that parents and carers send a note to the class teacher requesting an appointment be
made should there be any pertinent issues to discuss. We hope to see you there.
First P&C Meeting for 2013 (Repeat)
Come along to our first P&C meeting for the year and meet other parents and staff. It will be held this Tuesday
evening, 12th February at 6.30pm, in the school staffroom. (NOTE: Children are welcome). We welcome new
members (just 50cents to join!). It’s a great way to contribute to school related events and find out about
what’s happening in and around our great school. We aim to conclude each meeting by 8.30pm.

FROM the PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Welcome New Kindergarten Students and Families
I have been a long-time admirer of the terrific work Kindergarten teachers do. As a parent we know how challenging it can
be with just one 5 year old, let alone putting 20 into a room and managing to keep them quiet and teaching them to read ,
write , count and much more such as establishing routines and social parameters.
This year’s kindergarten students are off to a flying start and if you didn’t know you would think they had been at ‘big
school’ for much longer than just one week. Well done Mrs Auinger, Mrs Hynes, Miss Daley and Mrs Fantoni for all the
preparation (going back to last year) that has ensured such a smooth start to their schooling.
Wireless Connectivity to be Completed this Week
Last year our school staff and Finance Committee made a major commitment to have all of our learning environments
(classrooms, technology room and library) transformed into a wireless facilities. I am pleased to report that we have
engaged the services of a private company , Commserve, who will complete the process during this coming week enabling
teachers and students to use the internet with all of our iPads in the near future. I am also hoping the P&C can continue to
support our iPad program if funds permit enabling each student in any given class to use an individual iPad. (Presently we
have approximately one between two students).
Mariner’s Competition Winner
Congratulations to Nathaniel Stephenson who will lead out the Central Coast Mariners in a forthcoming home match
against Melbourne Victory. There were many entries which made it extremely difficult to select a winner, however the
judges were impressed with Nathaniel’s passion for the Mariners and his desire to one day be a similar role model by being
“just like them!”
We look forward to hearing about Nathaniel’s experience and thank Lawrie Mckinna & Mrs Auinger for making this great
prize possible.
Year 6 to 7 Enrolment Process
It seems to be getting earlier each year but already we have been sent information to commence the Year 6 to 7 enrolment
process. Year 6 students should shortly receive the Expression of Interest form and it is important that they are returned to
our office NO LATER THAN FRIDAY 22 MARCH 2013.
Annual School Contributions
Thank you to the parents who have contributed their annual school contributions. I appreciate the financial demands on
families at this time of the year and appreciate the efforts to support our school financially. Remember that our office will
accept payment in installments to assist families paying their contributions. Our office will continue to accept the annual
school contributions throughout the year. This year, the P&C have set the fees at $40 for one child and $70 a family. All
monies raised go towards library resources such as new books and computer software and contributions are tax deductible
and voluntary.
Pay before the end of March and be in with a chance of winning some great incentive prizes.
French markets Heading to Chertsey
On Saturday, March 16 Chertsey will host the French markets (formerly held at Kincumber). These prestige markets will be
held on school grounds and have regularly attracted up to 2000 visitors. Available from stalls will be :
Freshly baked breads and pastries, locally made wines. Jewellery and homewares by French designers, flowers and
collectables, all this whilst you be entertained by live French music.
The school will benefit by collecting and keeping ALL gate keepings. Entry will be $2 per adult. I have pledged all monies to go
towards employing additional support staff for our classes. With two markets per year this could amount to 200 additional
hours of support in our classrooms!
A roster will be made consisting of parent & staff volunteers. Please let myself or the office know if you can spare an hour on
the gate for this day. It promises to be a great day!
Best Wishes Adrian
Many of our community would have been shocked to hear of long time parent and school helper, Adrian Downes, struggling
with ill health recently. I have been informed by the family that he is beginning to show signs of making a good recovery from
a recent transplant operation.
On behalf of us all at Chertsey I know we wish Adrian well and hope to see him up and about in the not too distant future.
HEARTKIDS Fundraiser
Did you know that six babies are born each day in Australia with some form of heart disease? At Chertsey we have several
students who require regular hospitalisation due to their heart conditions. As the 14th February coincides with National
Heartkids Day the staff and students have decided to support this good cause by making up bracelets, head bands, hair
accessories and badges. These will be sold for $1-$2 during morning duty, at lunch 1 and lunch 2 in all main playing areas.
Road Safety Reminders(Repeat)
Please ensure the safety of our students by obeying the road regulations within the school zone. That includes not exceeding
the 40km/h speed limit in the mornings and afternoons and being aware of parking regulations. Please DO NOT: park in the
school carpark; complete U turns in the Children Crossing area or; park in the No Stopping zones.
In Bilgola Close the No Parking signs indicate that this area can be used as a drop off and pick up area (sometimes referred to
as a ‘kiss & drop’ zone). The driver, however, must stop for no longer than 2 minutes and if they need to remove themselves
from the vehicle must remain within 3 metres of it.

Sunsafe and Proud Hat Draw
Our Sunsafe and Proud Hat draw has commenced once again. This week’s winner is Harrison Bissett of class K-6D who wins a
slushy from the school canteen. Congratulations Harrison! And thank you to our school’s canteen & P&C for sponsoring this
weekly prize.
For your child to be in with a chance to win simply ensure they have a school hat with their name marked clearly on the
inside. So far this year I have been extremely proud of how smart the students look in FULL school uniform. Let’s keep it up!
FINAL WHOLE SCHOOL PAPER COPY OF OUR SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
As mentioned last week we strongly encourage you to access our newsletter via email or our website. It not only looks better
in colour but is better for the environment and the money we save on paper can be used on student resources. It will be
assumed that unless you have returned the slip requesting a hard copy of our weekly newsletter that you will be accessing it
electronically. Thank you for your cooperation.
A great start to 2013, Chertsey. Well done!

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS 2013
Dear Parents,
Please note that our whole school photograph day is planned for Tuesday 26th February. We organise our school photos for this time of
the year as all our students are wearing summer uniform, and they all look terrific.
Photographers from Master School Portraits are currently organising information sheets and envelopes for both individual and family
photos. Envelopes have now arrived at school and will be distributed to each student tomorrow (Wednesday 13th February). Orders for
individual and family photographs will need to be pre-paid and can be sent to your child’s class teacher for processing.
A sample of the envelope is on the following page.
Thank you

2013 TWILIGHT SWIMMING CARNIVAL The 2013 Twilight Swimming Carnival will be held Wednesday 20th February 2013 (Week 4) from 4pm until completion at Gosford Olympic Swimming Pool. Competing students will be expected to make their own way to and from the carnival by private transport, as no buses will be provided. Cost to each competing student is $3.00 while spectators (adult and/or child) are $1.90. This is to be paid upon entry to Gosford Pool on the day – no payment is to come to school.
Only children 8 years and over who can confidently swim at least 50m unaided and without stopping will be eligible to register for swimming carnival events.

ADMINISTERING MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
Dear Parents/Guardian
When medication is needed to be administered at school it is a
departmental requirement that a form be filled out before we are able
to administer the medication. Please see the office staff for a form
when needed.
