This week we welcome to Chertsey several students from Gosford TAFE, Lara Peterson, Sarah Harries, Ky-Lee Fulton, and Scott who are doing a work placement with Nada and Lisa at SaCCs. They are enrolled in ‘Certificate 4 Community Development’ and are working on a number of projects in the cottage and SaCCS. Miss Onslow from Newcastle University will complete a one month practicum on class 3/4S and Allyson Valencia will complete a one week’s work experience placement on class 5/6F. Thank you Nada, Lisa, Mrs Stuckey and Mr Francis for providing these students with this opportunity. School Environment Awards Yesterday (Monday, 15 th November) I attended the Gosford City Council 56Greenhouse Program Awards Ceremony on behalf of Ms Daley and our environment group-The Gecko Club. Our school representatives, Aimee, Nathan, Marco and Hope certainly looked great in the school blazers when on stage collecting our school’s award which included a pineapple plant for our community garden, a framed certificate, a habitat house, library books and $150 worth of Bunning's Vouchers. With the assistance of our dads in the Earth Committee our school looks great and has had many new plants added to our school environs thanks to John Martin, including the large potted trees outside of our Admini- stration entry. Our students, parents and community can be rightly proud of Chertsey! Headstart Orientation Day I have been very impressed with how well our new kindergarten students for 2011 have already settled into BIG school. Last week was the second week our Year 5 student buddies joined with the new students. This time they all headed into the P&C Technology Room where their buddy guided them to design a great re- minder of the time spent with their buddy....just in case they forget what they look like over the school holi- days! This week I look forward to seeing a large number students and their parents/carers at our Orientation Day, starting at 11.45am. HELPERS REQUIRED FOR BEAUT BEHAVIOUR BBQ It’s on again! The Principal’s Beaut Behaviour BBQ will be held on Tuesday 7 th December. Students should receive one of two types of invitation to attend the BBQ. One will commend students for their excellent con- sistent behaviour. The other will state we acknowledge their efforts to improve their behaviour. Again, this year, the vast majority of students have consistently demonstrated our core values of: ACCEPTANCE, ACHIEVEMENT, COMMITMENT, INTEGRITY and RESPECT. And most importantly, teachers have been able to consistently provide learning opportunities within their teaching and learning program rather than behaviour management. Now, I seek your assistance. Please indicate on the slip over if you can assist in any way to with the organisa- tion of the BBQ. Please return the slip to me via the office and meet outside the school canteen on Tuesday, 7 th December at 10.30am if you are able to help.

Should your child/ren have special dietary needs I request a written note preferably at least a week prior to the BBQ. Magic Show Excursion Thank you to Mrs Tillers for stepping in for Mrs Vaughan and coordinating the magic show excursion for our Support classes at the Central Coast Leagues Club on Monday. Support Unit Excursion- World Festival of Magic Congratulations to all our students from the Support Unit-K-2S, K-2T, 3-6V and K-6D for their exemplary behaviour during our day out on Monday 15th November. The rain did not dampen our ex-citement on the bus trip into Gosford and back. We had 15 minutes to play in the Lions Club Park at Gosford waterfront before the sky opened up on us and then a very quick walk to the Central Coast Leagues Club for the entertaining and mystifying Magic Show. Two of our students, Dylan and Cathleen bravely volunteered to represent Chertsey, by going up on stage to assist Michael the Ma-gician. Our sincere thanks to Red Bus Services for dropping us right at the school gate after the excursion, to Central Coast Leagues Club for attending to priority our seating requests and es-pecially to Wyoming Lions Club and the many local businesses who made it possible for us to enjoy the wonderful show. Thanks too to our supportive staff, Ms Sewell, Mrs Daley, Mrs Wastell, Mrs Plater, Mrs Masters and Mrs Fantoni for their patience and team work as usual. We may produce some magicians and ballet dancers in the future as there were many inspired Chertsey faces looking on! Mrs Tillers

Prefect Elections 2011 It is that time of year when we are thinking about school

leaders for 2011. Six Prefects will be elected for 2011. Year 5 students and

the staff at Chertsey PS are currently submitting nominations for considera-

tion as Prefect next year. Along with the honour of being elected as a Pre-

fect, there is also added responsibility as they endeavour to balance their

new leadership roles with their academic, extracurricular and social activi-

ties.

Students eligible to stand for election will be those who have consistently

displayed a high standard of behaviour and who demonstrate the values of

RESPECT, ACCEPTANCE, COMMITMENT, ACHIEVEMNT and INTEGRITY, as

well as the Keys to Success and Happiness. Nominations will be accepted

up until Tuesday morning of next week (Week 7). Year 5 students will find

out on that day if they have been successfully nominated for the 2011 Pre-

fect elections.

In lieu of our usual Primary assembly, a special assembly will be held next

Friday 26th November (Week 7), commencing at 9:15am, at which all suc-

cessful nominees will present a short speech explaining why they would

make the best Prefect. All Year 2 to 5 students and staff will vote following

the speeches, and our new Prefects will be announced at our annual Presen-

tation Day Assembly on Friday 10th December (Week 9).

Good luck to all nominees!

MOVIE DAY

Our end of year movie Day will be on Monday 13th December at Hoyts Erina. The movie we will be seeing is ‘Mega Mind’. Cost will be $12. Notes will go home next week. Sharon Hynes
