Formålet med forløbet er at arbejde med multikulturalisme og identitet i Britain.
Forløbet præsenterer kort eleverne for landets historiske kontekst jf. imperialisme
og kolonisering. Derefter fokuserer forløbet på fordele og ulemper ved at leve i
et multikulturelt samfund mht. diversitet, identitet og tolerance. Begrebet ”Bri-
tishness” vil blive diskuteret og generelt vil spørgsmålet om national og religiøs
identitet være omdrejningspunkt for gennem-gang af teksterne.

Med udgangspunkt i romanen ”The Curious Incident of the Night-time” har vi
i forløbet arbejdet med crime fiction genren og dens forskellige kendetegn, træk
og udtryksformer – både i tekster, dokumentar og i tv-serier. Via baggrundsma-
teriale og introducerende tekster omhandlende genren har vi læst og analyseret
tekster med hver deres særegne præg på genren som f.eks. ”whodunnit”,
”how’catchem”, ”nordic noir”, ”hard-boiled crime fiction”. Dermed har vi fået
et historisk indblik i genren og også set på udviklingen, særligt i forbindelse
med nyere TV og podcast, hvor både Sherlock Holmes har fået nyt liv (endnu
en gang) og de kvindelige detektiver er kommet mere i fokus.
