Sunshine Special School in Uiten-hage will be one of the first schoolsof the Eastern Cape Department ofEducation,where theuse of renewa-ble energy for water heating hasbeen incorporated in the design.
The official sod turning of thenew7700m² Sunshine Special School,next to Gibbon Street, was held lastweek. It was attended by distin-guished guests and various dele-gates from the Department of Edu-cation.
The new school will consist of twoclassroom blocks with coveredwalkways, which include 18 generalclasses a media/music room andcomputer class. Additional class-rooms include two neural phase
classrooms, three vocational class-rooms as well as practical classesfor arts and craft, hairdressing,woodwork, domestic science and alibrary. The therapy classroomsinclude a sound therapy class,physiotherapy class, occupationaltherapy class and indoor heatedpool. A new administration office,dining hall and semi-industrialkitchen will also be build.
On the existing school site theclassrooms and administration of-ficewill be demolished and the cur-rent JubileeHallwill be renovated.
The completion of thenewschoolblocks is due for August 2014 andthe second phase which includesthe demolition of existing classesand upgrading of the school hallwill be completed by February2015.

The first of its kind Wingsand Wheels Festival,where the public will en-
joy the opportunity to viewan ex-tra-ordinary variety of four andtwowheel vehicles aswell as var-ious models of aircraft, will beheld on Saturday, 13 April at theUitenhage airfield.
“It will be a fun day for thewhole family and the airfield isideal for this kind of outdoorevent,” said Lourens Kruger, or-ganiser of the festival.
It is hosted by the UitenhageAirfield Association and the twoidentified charities which willbenefit from the festival are theDrostdy Workplace for MentallyDisabled Persons and the Uiten-hage SPCA.
According to Kruger the Harley Davidsonmotorcycle clubs from the Nelson Mandela
Bay as well as other motorcycle clubs, willbe present and there will be displays of new
vehicles by most of Uitenha-ge’s new vehicle dealerships.

three years ago and the current leaking problem might be relatedto it.“Not only is it smelly at times andahealth risk, but it also is danger-
ous. A lady has previously tripped and injured herself as a resultof this damaged cement drain cover.“We pay a hell of a lot of rates and taxes and surely problems like
this should be sorted out with no hassle.”

Baseball coaching clinics were held in theprovince by Darryn Smith, a Major LeagueBaseball Scout, and in the process a lot ofyoung talent was discovered.
“It was an absolute pleasure to shareknowledge and teach both the junior and sen-ior players who were all excited about thisbeautiful game. There were a number of jun-ior players who showed big improvements,”said Smith.
According to him, Dylan le Roux is one ofthe junior players who with very little in-struction and training is already showinghuge potential.
“He is someone who, if coached correctly,can help take EP Baseball to new heights.”
Dylan, who hails from Uitenhage, playsbaseball for Despatch Red Sox and partici-pates in the U/14 National Baseball Tourna-
ment which is currently held in Cape Town.An U/12 team also participates at this na-
tional IRT and for many youngsters fromUitenhage, Despatch and PE it will be theirfirst tournament of this nature. They arecoached by Doy Transell and the U/14 squadby Mervin Johnson.
The Eastern Province Baseball Union hadtheir capping recently and the team consistsof:
