Sundays River Valley Community

Veterinary Clinic golf day in aid of animals

in need in the Valley.

Private veterinarians have established

community veterinary clinics across the

country in an attempt in providing dis-

advantaged communities with subsidised

veterinary services.

Veterinarians donate their professional

time to bring veterinary services to commun-

ities. Their vision is to provide primary

health care to animals from these areas, thus

promoting health and welfare of animals and

people, said Jeanette Pretorius from the

Valley Animal Friends.

The Sundays River Valley CVC has been

running for a number of years, building

a relationshipwithpet owners andproviding

a monthly sterilization clinic to assist

in controlling the ever expandingpet popula-

tion.

Dr Mulder and his staff from Uitenhage

Animal Clinic are part of the CVC.

They together with Valley Animal Friend

and Valley Pharmacy have joined hands

in support of animals in need within commu-

nities of the Sundays River Valley.

Valley Animal Friends is a non-profit

organisation that has at heart the assistance

of animals in need and assistancewith sterili-

zation and medication.

The golf day is hosted by Valley Animal

Friends in conjunction with Uitenhage

Animal Clinic as a fundraising project in

support of Sundays River Valley CVC.

Die doel van die fasiliteit is om navorsing

en ontwikkeling van toekomstige stoorteg-

nologie te ondersteun. Geakkrediteerde toets-

dienste sal ook verskaf word aan gevestigde

verskaffers van die motorbatterye.

Die fasiliteit is geskep as deel van die uYilo

E-mobiliteit Tegnologie Innovasie-program,

wat aangebied word deur die NMMU.

Die fasiliteit is uniek inSuid-Afrika omdat

dit die vermons sal skep om die volgende

generasie stoortegnologie te toets en te sertifi-

seer. Dit sluit in die gewilde litium-ioon

urning on the volume - for a group of

car audio sound fundis fromUitenhage

- means it is time to scoop awards!

These guys from Xplosive Car Audio, loud

and clearly are amongst the top audio sound

enthusiasts in the province, as they, on a reg-

ular basis, outblast their opponents at local

and regional competitions.

At the last three competitions we have

won five categories, were runners-up in six

categories and achieved four third place

awards,said Kevern Layton from Xplosive

category Xplosive Car Audio won the catego-

ry and also took second place.

At the latest Strictly Street car audio event

held at Scribante Race Track, Xplosive Car

Audio members won the Open Class and took

third place in the category. In the Hatchback

category they took the first three positions

whilst in the Sedan category one of the mem-

bers came second.

The competitors have a decibel measure

place on the widescreen which is connected

to a laptop. We are given a track we have to

play in 30 seconds and an average decibel

reading is then given. The highest reading

wins! explained Layton.

Leon Panagis had to add four extra car bat-

teries in his VWCaddy in providing adequate

power to the sound equipment he installed in

his vehicle!

We are working and experimenting with

car audio equipment with the aim to have the

loudest car in the Nelson Mandela Metro,

said Layton.

According to Panagis, preparation work on

a vehicle is of utmost importance and it takes

months to have all in place.

You have to strengthen the bodywork of

the vehicle. Cables are very important andwe

only use 100% copper cables to get the best

performance. There are no short-cuts. Every-

thing has to be perfect, said Panagis.

The team has recently finished the sound

system of a Corsa bakkie which apparently is

mind blowing.

Getting the right sound out of a bakkie is

very difficult as there is restricted space for

reverberation. This means the collection of

reflected sounds from the surfaces in the bak-

kies enclosed area has to be planned precise-

ly to get theultimate soundquality, saidPan-

agis.

port to a new course for entrepreneurs in the

Uitenhage and surrounding areas. The aim of

the course is to support the growth of small

businesses and provide information, advice

and networking links through training and

development.

This qualification is available for poten-

tial new and existing entrepreneurs to capi-

talize, start and grow sustainable businesses

that form part of the mainstream economy,

said Lilly de Jong from Women In Business.

Some of the aspects that will be focused on

include financial management, identifying

business activities, calculating cost and pric-

Sales at FNB Housing Finance says, With

winter almost upon us we should be aware

that properties are vulnerable to attack

from the outside elements. More important-

ly, you should take care of your property be-

fore winter arrives and there are a number

of practical ways to winter-proof your home

around and check what needs to be repaired,

sealed or insulated. Gutters and drains

should also be cleaned of leaves and debris

on a regular basis. Overflowing gutters and

drains could drench walls and cause damage

to your house.

Electricity is one of the biggest culprits

when it comes to winter costs. There are a

number of measures you can put in place to

bring your electricity bill down, and proper

insulation of your home is one of them, says

Mngadi.

He suggests making sure your home is in-

sulated correctly so that heat is not lost un-

necessarily. Insulation isnt just for cold cli-

mates. If your home is insulated correctly it

will keepyourhomecooler in summeraswell

as keep it warm in winter.

Mngadi says that energy efficiency is one

of the most practical ways to save and sug-

gests investigating alternative methods to

bring down the cost of electricity.

Use solar water heaters and insulation fit-

ted into the foundations. This will result in

the walls and ceilings keeping the tempera-

ture self-controlled.

Have your geyser inspected or serviced be-

fore winter starts, as it is one of the biggest

contributors to electricity bills.

There are a few ways to save on your gey-

ser bill during winter, which include switch-

ing it off during the day, or by wrapping it
