THE ORGANISER SCHOOL

Eötvös József Gimnázium is one of the most prestigious secondary schools in Budapest. It is

in the 5th district of the capital, in Reáltanoda utca. With its legal predecessors, it is the

oldest non‐denominational school of Budapest and also the first school to have specified in

sciences (“realia”) and also the first Hungarian language high school to have specialised in

sciences. Since September 2010 it has been in its 157th school‐year now. In 2008 it was

awarded the title “A school which nurtures talent” by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

In this value‐oriented school both the personal and the professional qualities of the

students are taken care of. The majority of students gain admission to higher education

institutions of their first choice,. In order to equal the challenges they are made to work

very hard and meet systematically high standards. They are expected to think for

themselves, to draw conclusions from what they have learnt and to translate their

knowledge into practice. They are to learn at least one foreign language really well, acquire

the basics of another one and be prepared to read professional literature in a foreign

language. We find it important that they should maintain their curiosity in the world and be

able to work steadfastly for their own goals and also for those of the community, in the

interest of their fellow‐humans. With the help ot the parents we hope to prepare each of

our students for an active and happy full human life.

It was with regard to the above that we decided to join the MUN programme and

organise our own MUN conference under the name BIMUN.

can apply what they have learnt at school easily and reliably. No false document is of any use. Each

student is a living certificate. They must be able to prove in practice that they have learnt something

really useful at school and not just spent time sitting there.”

D espite their brevity, the stories in this book have a certain amount of literary

merit. They also have the added advantage of saving us time, since they do

not require our attention for weeks on end. While the soft-boiled egg is boiling

or the number you are dialing answers (provided it is not engaged, of course)

you have ample time to read one of these short stories which, because of their

brevity, I have come to think of as one minute stories. You can read them

whatever your mood, whether you are sitting down or standing up, in fine

weather or foul. They make good reading even on a crowded bus. Most can

even be enjoyed on a walk.

Do pay attention to the titles, though. The author strove for brevity, which put a

special burden of responsibility on him when choosing the titles for his stories,

of which they form an organic part.

Do not stop at the titles, though! First the title, then the story. It's is the only

proper manner of handling.

Attention! If something is not clear to you, reread the story is question. If it is

still not clear to you, dump the story, the fault lies with the author. There are no

dim-witted readers, only badly written one-minute stories.
