Co-trainer Bailey Rogerson was thrilled to see Beauden earn his first black type victory for popular owner and breeder Joan egan and with the way he coped with the 2200m journey.

“He loves it here and although it was 2200m today he ran 2400m and did it very well,” she said.

“He’s faced a different challenge each time and every time he’s stepped up so who knows how far he can go.

“as long as we keep looking after him, he’ll be right there.”earlier in the week Rogerson’s grandfather Graeme had

outlined possible future plans for Beauden which include another attempt at Group one glory with the gelding holding nominations for the Gr.1 Herbie dyke stakes (2000m) at te Rapa and the Gr.1 auckland Cup (3200m) at ellerslie.

Punters who took the $1.15 odds were never in any doubt as she cruised along in midfield for rider opie Bosson before asserting her authority in the run home to win comfortably by just on two lengths from Queen Kamada (nZ) (Rip Van Winkle) who had bravely tried to lead throughout.

trainer Jamie Richards was happy enough with the performance despite his charge looking a little sluggish at times during the contest.

“she had a bit of a bee in her

bonnet before the start so she’s going to improve a lot for it (the run),” Richards said.

“she’s not usually a filly to win by a big margin so it’s good to see that we’ve got that out of the road.

“I guess you would have liked to see her do it a little easier, but she’s one of those fillies who only goes as good as the other ones are going.

“she will improve a lot and it’s good to have her back.”

Class prevails as Probabeel charges to the front on her way to victory at Awapuni (Race Images - Grant Matthew)

superstar three-year-old Probabeel (NZ) (savabeel) proved a class above her age-

group rivals when she made a winning start to her summer campaign over 1400m at awapuni on saturday.

the savabeel filly was backed as unbeatable on past performances that included a win in the Karaka Million 2Yo (1200m) last season along with a runner-up finish in the Gr.1 Flight stakes (1600m) at Randwick to round out her spring campaign.

CLass PReVaILs at aWaPuNiwhen we took her to sydney as a two-year-old,” ellis said.

“she had a good spell and we kicked her off again at Randwick, and, really, she was pretty unlucky not to win one of the legs of the Princess series. she was racing against the best fillies in australia, and showed she was up to them.

“Jamie (Richards) has done a terrific job with her and it’s exciting for Brendan & Jo, and all our team, that she can contest another million dollar race at the end of January. she loves ellerslie, killed them in the Karaka Million, and I think she’ll be a top chance.”

Probabeel will now head to the Karaka Million 3Yo Classic (1600m) at ellerslie on January 25 where she will attempt to become the first horse to take out both the two-year-old and three-year-old $1m features.

taB Bookmakers have her a quote

of $1.60 for the ellerslie feature ahead of australian-based rival Conqueror (Fastnet Rock) at $3.20 and Gr.1 new Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) runner-up Harlech (nZ) (darci Brahma) at $5.

Richards and Bosson made it back-to-back victories when Weaponry (nZ) (declaration of War) out-toughed his rivals to take out a rating 82 1600m in the next race on the programme.

Bosson was succinct in his summing up of the race.

“I rode her a little handier than planned,” Bosson said.

“there was a bit of pressure on us throughout the race, but she’s quite a lazy horse.

“she’s got a good turn of foot, so you know she can get you out of trouble.

“once she balanced up, she changed leg and felt really good.”

owned by Cambridge stud couple Brendan and Jo Lindsay, Probabeel was purchased by te akau Racing boss david ellis for $380,000 from the Waikato stud draft during Book 1 at Karaka in 2018. With four wins, three seconds, from 10 starts, she has now won $769,000 in prize money.

“she showed she was special when winning her first start at ellerslie, and after winning three from four she unfortunately struck two heavy tracks

Group-performed colt Conqueror (Fastnet Rock) has shown he is on target for a trip to new Zealand for the Karaka Million 3Yo Classic (1600m) after resuming from

a let-up with a win at Caulfield.Having his first start since finishing second in the Gr.2

sandown Guineas (1600m) on november 16, Conqueror took an inside run early in the straight and was forced to dig in to get the better of Write Your name (Written tycoon) in saturday’s Michele de silva Handicap (1400m).

the three-year-old, taking on older horses but dropping to benchmark-78 grade, was strong to the line to beat Write Your name by a head.

the $1m Karaka Million 3Yo Classic at ellerslie on January 25 is Conqueror’s immediate target and co-trainer Ben Hayes believes they can head that way with some confidence the colt can emulate his now-retired former stablemate Long Leaf (Fastnet Rock).

Long Leaf, who like Conqueror was consigned at the new Zealand Bloodstock Yearling sale by Curraghmore, won the same race in new Zealand last year.

“He’s booked his ticket to new Zealand,” Hayes said.“Long Leaf was probably better performed going into the

race because he had won a couple of stakes races as a two-year-old whereas this guy is Group-performed and he has been running against the best.

“so I’d say they are very similar at the same stages of their career and I think Conqueror is probably going to be a better miler than Long Leaf.

“I think he’ll be one of the favourites if he travels over well and does everything right.”

Conqueror only previous victory in his first nine starts was a big-margin success in a Pakenham maiden in July last year.

He was around the mark in a number of feature races for three-year-olds during the spring, including placings in the Gr.2 Bill stutt stakes (1600m) and Gr.2 sandown Guineas (1600m).

“I had to ask him for an effort in the last 200 metres and he responded well,” oliver said of Conqueror.

“He looked well-placed today coming off those stakes races for three-year-olds and it’s getting to the new year now where the three-year-olds are a bit better suited against the older horses.”

“Back to a restricted race today he was well-placed.”Bred by the China Horse Club, Conqueror is out of

Mrs Beckham enjoyed an uninterrupted run under jockey Chris symons from barrier three and Zahra was pleased with her performance.

“Mrs Beckham keeps taking every step,” he said. “It’s good to have two nice fillies in the stable.

“Mrs Beckham is out of a Zabeel mare and I think once she gets over

new Plymouth galloper Malo Bik (NZ) (dalghar) took full advantage of

the featherweight of 50kgs on his back when he stepped up to open handicap company with an impressive victory over 1400m at awapuni.

the dalghar five-year-old has hit a purple patch of form of late with saturday’s victory his third in his last four starts and was coming off the back of a similar performance over 1600m on his home track on december 27.

apprentice temyia taiaroa was aboard that day and claimed the mount again for his open-class debut. she used her three-kilogram claim to good effect as she

positioned Malo Bik beautifully in behind Pop star Princess (nZ) (Makfi) with the rest of the six- strong field happy to leave the pair alone in front.

that proved their undoing as Pop star Princess sprinted hard at the top of the straight with Malo Bik in hot pursuit and the rest of the field struggling to make any impression on the pair. Malo Bik was resolute as he ground down Pop star Princess in the closing stages with former top stayer Chocante (nZ) (shocking) running on nicely to take third.

the victory continued a dream run for trainer Robbie Patterson who conceded his charge had finally come of age after proving to be a real handful in his early days.

“I used to get sick of him in the tie-ups as he’d be crashing around but now you wouldn’t get a bead of sweat off him,” he said.

“He went to sleep today at the 600m as he is a bit of a lazy bugger but with 50kgs and getting a soft trail he was hard to
