Remember…..When you think about it, the imperfect is used to paint a background for a story.When you are about to tell a friend what happened to you at the beach yesterday, you will begin by first describing the scene: where were you, what was going on around you, what was the weather like, what the people were in the middle of doing, etc.When you begin to tell all of the exciting or frustrating things which proceeded to happen, you will tell it in the PRETERIT!

When is the preterit used?A single action or a series of actions that are totally completed

within a particular time in the past. (whether stated or not) Anoche leí cómo se inventó la penicilina.Last night I read about how penicillin was invented.

El cientifico se asustó cuando vio las posibilidades de su proyecto.

The scientist became (got) scared when he saw the possibilities of his project.
