NEW PARISHIONERS:
Welcome! We encourage all new families who
move into St. Catharine - St. Margaret Parish
to call the rectory to register in the parish.
2 513 St. Catharine—St. Margaret Parish Family
Dear Parishioners:
Now as we begin the second week of Advent, it is good to reflect at the beginning of the new liturgical year, how we are able to walk through, all the mysteries of our faith and our salvation through the celebration of the seasons of the church year.
We travel through periods of anticipation and expectation
and waiting and hoping, to periods of joy and
celebration, through somber periods of sadness and
loss, to days of exhilaration, joy and ecstasy; through
birth and death and resurrection. And the old year ended appropriately, on the Feast of Christ the King; - affirming the central reality and value of our lives and of our faith, and the most important reality that binds all the seasons together and gives meaning to it all – the central role of Jesus in our lives.
Mother Teresa said one time, that at the end of your life what will be important will not be the number of diplomas you have or the amount of money you have acquired. What will be important will be how well you heard the Gospel and how well you lived it. What will be important will be how
well you saw the hand of God in all of the times and
seasons, all of the events and all the experiences of the
year.
Appropriately, Advent is the beginning of it all. We feel
the sense of anticipation and excitement that Mary felt
during those weeks before the birth of her child. It is
not a sad time. It is not a time of desolation like some
of the days leading up to Holy Week. The colors that
you see in the sanctuary are somber and intense. The
purple vestments are supposed to throw us into a
reflective mood that will lead inevitably to a redirection
and if necessary a changing of the direction of our
hearts.
This is a very hectic time for all of us. This is probably the “busiest” time of the year for all of us. The celebration of the great feast of Christmas has been completely hijacked by commercial and material interests. The season of giving has been transformed into an orgy of material excess. It is so vital that you come to church during these days before Christmas, and that when you come, that you and your family are reminded of and challenged by the true meaning and spirit of this season.

Youth to Young Families For the 2-minute online survey, please visit:
http://ParishYouthSurvey.com Have you stopped attending mass?
Have your children or grandchildren stopped attending mass?
Are you looking to see more young faces in the crowd or involved in parish life?
Here at St. Catharine - St. Margaret Parish, we are working as a Parish Pastoral Council to help address the needs of our younger parishioners. We want to address the issues and work towards to improving as a parish family to gain further involvement from all parishioners, but especially those that are younger.
Note: We do ask that the survey be shared by all parishioners, but only those in the age groups from teenage years to young families complete the survey. This is very important to our results and the actions we take from the survey.
Thank you very much for your help!

Aging religious need your help. Senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests ministered for years for little to no pay. Their sacrifices now leave their religious communities without adequate retirement savings. Your gift to today’s
second collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious helps to provide medications, nursing care, and more for tens of thousands of elderly religious. Please be generous.
Members of our Parish who have family or friends in the service have given us their names which can be found in our Remembrance books in both churches in front of one of the side altars. We encourage you to stop there, say a prayer for those listed and for all our service people. To add a name to our prayer list, please call Barbara 732-449-5392 or Karen 732-685-7065.
