From the Pastor

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I hope that you are finding this penitential season of Lent to be a time of renewal, a new Spring time of spiritual growth as we celebrate the third Sunday of Lent. Here we are at the end of February al-ready. I need to say a big thank you to Frances Gutierrez, Margarita Gonzalez and Josefina Torres for their help in organizing the reception on Feb. 25th after the Mass of blessing of the new St. Toribio Chapel. It was a lot of hard work and we are grateful for the gift of their time and talent. I am also very grateful for all those who in any way contributed to the building of this Chapel. We have put up a plaque in the back of the new chapel with the names of those who have given at least $1,000.00 If we missed anyone please let us know so we can rectify it. There were others too who contributed and we are grateful for your assistance even if your name does not appear on the plaque. May the Lord bless and reward you!! Now that the new Chapel has been properly blessed and dedicated to the service of God we are prepared to organize perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Padre Jose del Carmen Lizarazo Blanco from Colombia who has organ-ized hundreds of chapels of perpetual adoration throughout Latin America will be arriving here in our parish on Saturday, March 5th. He will come with a team who will help us to make sure that we are properly prepared to take on the work of per-petually adoring the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament day and night, month after month, year after year. We need to have at least two adorers for every hour of the week who will commit to the same hour every week. Father Jose del Carmen will stay with us for a week and will offer Mass this coming Sat-urday at 7:00 p.m. to kick off the week of activities and get us spiritually prepared for his message. He will speak at the Spanish Masses this coming weekend and during the week will offer a

February 28, 2016

6:00 p.m. Mass each evening Monday through Thursday and after the Stations of the Cross on Fri-day, March 11th. Then, on Saturday, March 12th, he will offer a spiritual retreat for Lent 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We hope that many will participate and that we will be able to begin perpetual adoration that same evening March 12th. The exit door of the new chapel has been specially outfitted with a combination lock so that adorers can come and go without needing a key. Only the adorers will be given the combination. It was nearly 12 years ago that we started our program of adoration on certain days of the week but always in my mind I had hoped that one day the adoration might become perpetual so that our Blessed Lord is always ac-companied, day and night, by faithful Catholic adorers. Please mark your calendar then with this information and make every effort to participate. This coming Friday, March 4th, is the First Friday and so after the Spanish Stations of the Cross the Eucharist will be exposed for adoration until 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5th. Mass will follow at 8:30 a.m. and then the Padre Pio Group after Mass. There will be another Mass as well at noon in Latin for the First Saturday. There are many things that crowd our daily calen-dars but I hope that we still make prayer a priority especially if we wish to obtain special the special graces of this season of penance. We are about halfway through the Lenten period and as we pro-gress our focus will be directed more and more to the sufferings our Divine Master endured for our salvation. It is a time to renew our spirit of thanks-giving to Jesus for the gift He has obtained for us, the gift of Eternal Life that He freely offers to us. Have a good week. Father Timothy Davison DDF Update as of February 19th: Sts. Peter & Paul has given $13,882.00. Our goal this year is $17,850.00. If you have not already done so, please send in your envelope to the Diocesan Development Fund.

Padre Timothy Davison
