From the Pastor

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The Joy and Peace of Easter be with you always!! During this wonderful liturgical season our minds and hearts are obviously focused on the mystery of the Lord’s resur-rection but also on our hope of one day ris-ing to eternal glory with Him after our death. This liturgical season lasts until the Feast of Pentecost and then we consider the daily life of remaining committed to Our Blessed Lord up until the Advent Season at the beginning of Advent. These are rich sea-sons of grace when we live them fully as Catholics. One thing that really helps us live more completely the Liturgical seasons is our daily participation in the Holy Eucha-rist. Another is the daily recitation of the Divine Office, or at least Lauds and Ves-pers. There are also many Liturgical aids that can help us to pray and follow along with the Church as we journey from season to season. This week we welcome the statue of the Niño de Atocha. The statue has come from the main Sanctuary in Mexico. Father Leo-nardo Medina, Director of the Hispanic Apostolate, is instrumental in bringing the image to our Diocese and making sure that it travels around to various parishes. It will arrive here at Sts. Peter and Paul parish this Thursday, April 23rd at 6:00 p.m. All those who might be able to be here to welcome the image of the Christ Child should plan to

be present. We usually receive the image at the rectory and then form a procession to the Church where it is solemnly venerated by the faithful. The Knights of Columbus will carry the image in the procession and accompany it while it is being venerated. Father Leonardo will offer the Holy Mass at 7:00 p.m. in our parish church. The image will stay in the parish until Friday, April 24th and will leave after the 7:00 p.m. Mass. I am so grateful to the Kolb family for vol-unteering to take care of the flower gardens this year at the parish. It seems like every year the flower beds increase and become more beautiful but that means there is more work involved in watering, weeding, plant-ing, mulching, and taking care of these gar-dens. And so it is wonderful that Brian and Mary Jo and their kids come several times a week to help out. If there is anyone who would like to be a substitute to help with the watering at times I am sure that the Kolb family would really appreciate that. Just let me know and I will pass the word on to them. We have a lot going on with the construc-tion project and the renovation of the con-vent as well as the care of the gardens and the spiritual and pastoral work involved in a community such as ours. I am so grateful for whatever help anyone can give me. One thing that we need right now is for someone to empty the trash barrels in the back near the picnic shelter and put the trash into the dumpster. This needs to be done at least

once a week. I would be so grateful to any-one who might like to volunteer to do so for the next six months at least. Just call me at the parish office if you are willing to help with this small task each week. Again thank you to all who are helping in various tasks to make our community a beautiful place to gather and worship each week. Take care and have a good week. Sincerely yours, Father Timothy Davison

The Year of Consecrated Life Religious life ought to promote growth in the church by way of attraction. The church must be at-tractive. Wake up the world! Be

witnesses of a different way of doing things, of act-ing, of living!...It is this witness that I expect of you. Religious should be men and women who are able to wake the world up. Pope Francis meeting with the Union of Superiors General, No-vember 29, 2013.

The pastoral care of the sick will be misun-derstood if we start from the vantage point of the sickroom. Begin with the Sunday assembly, from which the sick person has been separated by the crisis of illness, and whose absence is given ex-pression in prayer and service. The goal is to ex-tend the consolation of the Lord’s presence at the table to those who are apart from it, and for the as-sembly to enfold them in prayer. Secondarily, the goal is to teach people what the Church desires for all those who are sick. Seeing ministers dispatched to the sick from Mass every Sunday might help a caregiver realize that their dear one can also receive Communion. Wit-nessing the anointing of a woman facing surgery might help another person to overcome hesitation and ask for the sacrament’s healing and strength. Society’s impulse may be to marginalize the sick, but the tradition of our community is to see them at the center of our life. When Roman persecutors ordered St. Lawrence the Deacon to hand over the jewels of the church, he assembled a motley crew of the sick and the infirm and announced with all humility, “Behold, my lord, the treasures of the church of Christ.” Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

Padre Timothy Davison
