4. License Agreement – Read the agreement, and, provided only that you accept all the terms and conditions, click “I accept the agreement”, followed by Next.

5. Select Destination Location – Either accept the default location or click Browse to select a different folder (which must be on a local drive). If the amount of disk space required (indicated in the installer window) exceeds what you have free in the selected location, click Browse to change the location. Once the required folder is displayed, click Next to continue.

6. If the chosen folder does not exist, a message will appear to ask you to confirm the creation of the new folder. If the chosen folder does already exist, a message will appear to ask you to confirm that you wish to install in that folder regardless. Click Yes to confirm creation of the required folder.

7. Ready to Install – Click the Install button if you wish to proceed. Otherwise, click Back to change the folder, before proceeding.

8. Finish – Allow the installer to finish running (this may take a few minutes). Once the installation is complete, you will be prompted to click Finish, in order to exit Setup. There is no need to restart the PC.

Installation Structure Example (Collapsed)

Following installation, the directory structure shown overleaf should have been automatically created in the selected location.

Note: The version folder (‘2015_12’ in the following example) that is installed directly under ‘StreetPro’ refers to the current version of the product. A country folder will exist for each country installed under the version folder (in the example that follows, the country installed is Switzerland). Each country folder contains the data for that country, as well as the associated workspaces and metadata, plus tables containing the language code and miCode information.

Chapter 4: Opening a Workspace

This chapter covers workspaces and the opening of a StreetPro international workspace using MapInfo Professional.

Workspaces

A workspace is a collection of layers that can be opened together in a mapping application.

It constitutes a list of all the relevant tables, windows, and settings, stored in a file with the extension .wor. Workspaces offer a convenient means of returning to a previously created map without having to open each table file individually. The selected workspace keeps track of the following elements:• Map, Browser, Graph, 3DMap, and Layout windows, including their size

and position;• Query tables created from base tables using either the Select or SQL

Select statements;• Graphs; • Thematic maps;• Legend windows; • Cosmetic objects; • Labels; • Styles for fonts, symbols, lines, and fill patterns used to display objects.

Caution: When you save a workspace, you cannot save any references to selections or queries made by the Selection tools or Query options.

Note: You can use the Workspace Packager tool to create a copy of your current workspace in a new folder, and copy all the data referenced by the workspace in the same folder. Using this tool, the workspace looks to these internal references to find the data and .TAB file, so you can open this workspace no matter where you have moved or copied that folder, even if you move it to a different computer. Select this tool using Tools > Tool Manager, and then select Tools > Workspace Packager > Package Current Workspace.

Opening a StreetPro International Workspace using MapInfo Professional

International Workspace

The international workspace provides a common set of display settings for all StreetPro countries.

Local Workspaces

Local workspaces have been designed to display maps in a cartographic style that is more particularly related to a group of countries or an individual country.

Opening a StreetPro International Workspace using MapInfo Professional

If you have not already done so, launch MapInfo Professional from the Windows Start menu. If the program was already running, select File > Close All to shut everything down and so avoid cluttering up your screen with unnecessary windows.

If the program was not already running, the Quick Start dialog box is displayed as soon as you start the program. This gives you the option of restoring the previous session or workspace, or opening a new workspace or table.

To open a workspace:

1. Either:

(a) In the Quick Start dialog box, click Open a Workspace and then Open.

Or

(b) From the MapInfo Professional main menu, select File > Open and then choose Workspace (*.wor) from the Files of type drop-down list.

2. Browse to the workspace you wish to open, for example one of the international workspaces that was installed during Installation of ‘Data’ Files on page 15, and then click Open.

Note: Open the *_int_mipro125.wor file for the required country if you are using MapInfo Professional 12.5, or the *_int.wor file if you are using an earlier version of MapInfo Professional.

3. Once the workspace is displayed, as per the International Workspace Example on page 9, then you can proceed as required.

When you exit MapInfo Professional, the last session is stored (unless you have set your preferences so that it will not be, using Options > Preferences > Startup). If there are files that you do not wish to be added to your workspace, close them before exiting.

Displaying Special Characters in MapInfo Professional

Displaying Special Characters in MapInfo Professional

If you are using an edition of StreetPro for which the country character set is not Latin-1, you must change a number of system settings before special characters can be displayed correctly.

Language settings

In the Windows Start menu, open the Control Panel and then the Regional and Language Options dialog. Click the Advanced tab and change the language in the drop-down menu to that of the language for which you wish to view special characters (e.g. Russian for Cyrillic characters).

Note: The computer will need to be restarted before changes become visible. The settings must be set back to English once you are finished using the StreetPro tables, as other applications may be affected.

Font selection

The second change that may have to be made in order for the characters to be displayed correctly is to change the font within MapInfo Professional. As each browser is opened, change the font of the browser using either the Text Style button on the Drawing toolbar, or by clicking Options > Text style… to open the font change dialog. You can also use the shortcut key [F8] to open this dialog.

Latin-2 countries may open in Arial CE font as default. In this case, no further action is needed. However, if the font is Arial, it will need to be changed.

Note: Arial does not support many of the special characters in non-Latin alphabets, but there are several variants of Arial that do.

Chapter 5: Mapping Basics

Tahoma is the recommended style, as it supports many special characters including Cyrillic, Greek and Turkish alphabets and associated diacritics.

The default label style can be changed by clicking Options > Preferences… then the Styles... button. The Text style can then be set to the appropriate font.

Opening StreetPro Feature Layers

To open and display your StreetPro maps in MapInfo Professional, do one of the following:

• Use File > Open and select files of type MapInfo (*.tab) to open each table individually. This is handy for opening one or two tables.

• Use File > Open and select files of type Workspace (*.wor) to open multiple tables with the supplied international/local workspace.

Managing StreetPro Tables using Layer Control

If you open multiple tables automatically in MapInfo Professional via a workspace (as mentioned above), then each table opens in the workspace as a separate layer in the map window. Each layer is displayed with preset label, zoom, and display settings.

Note: You can use Layer Control to override the predetermined settings and control other aspects of the workspace.

Editing StreetPro Map Layers

Working with Curved Labels

You can improve the look of your arc and polyline labels by making these labels follow the curve of the line. Curved labels can be displayed for any arc/polyline feature, such as streets, railroads, ferry lines, and rivers. This functionality is supported in the Map window and persists when you move the Map to a Layout. However, you cannot create curved labels in the Layout window itself.

Note: Workspaces that were created with curved labels, a feature added in MapInfo Professional 9.0, cannot be displayed in earlier versions of MapInfo Professional. You can upgrade workspaces created with earlier versions of MapInfo Professional by opening the layer with the labels you want to change, selecting the curved label options using the steps described in this section, and then saving the workspace again.

Setting the Curved Label Option

To display labels along a curve:

1. Display the map for which you wish to change the labels.

2. Open Layer Control.

3. Having ensured that the AutoLabel check box to the right of the layer is selected, double-click on the layer to be changed.

4. The Layer Display dialog box is currently displayed. Click the Label Display tab and go to the Placement panel at the bottom of the dialog.

Chapter 5: Mapping Basics

5. Click the Curve labels along segments option to display the layer’s labels along the curve of the line. These labels are anti-aliased automatically to improve the display.

If you use Anchor Points to set the label’s position, then, when you select:

Left, the curved labels are left justified starting at the beginning of the arc/polyline.

Centre, the curved labels are centred on the midpoint of the arc/polyline.

Right, the curved labels are right justified at the end of the arc/polyline.

Note: The length of the polyline(s) affects how the label is positioned. The longer the polyline(s), the more predictably the labels are displayed.

6. Click OK to activate the settings, and OK again to display the new label(s).

Note: Although the labels are activated in the current workspace, they are not actually saved to the workspace until you select File > Save Workspace to either overwrite the current *.wor file or save it under a different name.

Editing Curved Labels

All of the editable properties of curved labels are supported in the workspace.

You can use the Label tool on the Main toolbar to move curved labels. Ensure that you have already selected the Curve labels along segments option in the Label Options dialog box for the layer that you want to change.

Note: In these instructions, we use the term "line" to mean either polyline or arc segment.

1. Click on the Main toolbar to display the Layer Control dialog box.

2. Highlight, in the list, the layer for which you wish to move the labels.

3. Tick the Selectable check box in this layer.

4. Click OK to redisplay the Map window.

5. Click on the Main toolbar.

6. Click the line on which you want to reposition the label.

Editing StreetPro Map Layers

7. Click the new location for the label until the label is displayed as you want it to be.

Note: If the segment you select does not have a label name associated with it in the data, then no label is displayed.

Understanding your Data and Curved Labels

When you select curved autolabeling, MapInfo Professional attempts to create a curved label for every arc/polyline record in a map, just as it does for non-curved labels.

For example, in street maps, the street can be made of several polylines or one long polyline. The length and number of the polylines, the rules that govern whether a curved label can be created, and the labeling options you choose, all affect which curved labels are created and where they are displayed.

Some polyline and arc segments in your layer data may not contain label name entries. When this occurs, MapInfo Professional cannot display labels for that segment.

What to Expect from Curved Labels

This feature is made up of complex algorithms that are designed to enhance the display of your polyline/arc features. There are several rules that determine whether MapInfo Professional can display a curved label.

• MapInfo Professional can only draw curved labels using TrueType fonts. If you select a non-TrueType font, MapInfo Professional substitutes a comparable TrueType font, and so the label you chose may be displayed differently from what you expected. Also, if you change a horizontal label using a non-TrueType to a curved label, the new label may be displayed differently due to the font substitution.

• Part of the label string must fit along the polyline/arc that it is labelling. If it cannot fit, MapInfo Professional determines that the label is too long and throws it away.

• MapInfo Professional cannot draw curved labels for polylines that are very jagged. However, it does depend on the curvature of the line.

• Labels that curve onto themselves are thrown away and are not displayed.

• Curved labels follow the same rules for overlap detection, duplicate text, and partial segment labelling, as non-curved labels. Each of these rules affect how and when MapInfo Professional displays the labels.

• You cannot drag curved labels as you can other labels.

• You can create curved labels with the Label tool at any point along a polyline/arc.

• You can reposition the curved auto labels with the Label tool.

• Curved and non-curved labels persist for layers in the workspace.

• The Labeller utility does not support curved labels, so you cannot transfer curved labels to the Cosmetic layer.

• The Curved Labels functionality supports double byte characters.

• The Label Lines controls are disabled whenever you select the Curve labels along segments option.

• You cannot underline curved labels.

Reprojector Tool

Disclaimer

Pitney Bowes is making the Reprojector™ tool available to you, free of charge, for use with your

StreetPro® data, in order to enhance your working experience.

You are not obliged to use the Reprojector™ tool. However, should you elect to use it, Pitney Bowes makes no representations or warranties, express or implied, with respect to the accuracy, reliability or completeness of the tool, and the entire risk of its use shall be assumed by you.

In no event shall Pitney Bowes be liable to you or to any other person, regardless of the cause, for the effectiveness or accuracy of the Reprojector™ tool or for any special, indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from, or occasioned by, your use of the Reprojector™ tool, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Overview

StreetPro® data is provided in WGS84 Latitude/Longitude projection. The Reprojector tool is designed to transform a batch of MapInfo tables into a different projection.

What is projection?

Although the Earth is a sphere, maps are flat. Coordinate systems allow users to specify the way in which the data is represented on the flat screen (or projected).

The WGS84 projection in which StreetPro® data is supplied gives a moderately accurate representation over the whole world.

Many countries have local projections that allow a very accurate representation of their particular country, such as British National Grid or Irish Transverse Mercator. Most of these projections will not work for other countries' data.

Displaying data of different projections at the same time reduces workspace performance. It is desirable to have all data and workspace files using the same projection.

Loading the Reprojector Tool

You can use the Tool Manager to specify the Tools to be loaded when MapInfo Professional is started.

To load the Reprojector Tool on startup:

1. From the MapInfo Professional main menu, select Tools > Tool Manager....

Chapter 8: Geocoding using StreetPro with Addresses

If you have purchased StreetPro with Addresses, you can geocode your own tables of data to street addresses using MapInfo Professional. This chapter describes the process of geocoding, in which geographic coordinates are assigned to records that match the addresses in the Linked Address file.

This chapter also describes the procedure for editing the Linked Address file.

In this chapter:

Displaying Your Data On a Map: Geocoding

Displaying Your Data On a Map: Geocoding

You may want to find out about your data’s distribution, trends and patterns in ways that are not possible using traditional spreadsheet displays. The best way to do this is to put your data onto a map. MapInfo Professional and StreetPro with Addresses can help you do this by assigning X and Y coordinates to your data - a process known as ‘geocoding’. MapInfo Professional assigns these coordinates by matching geographic information in your data to the geographic information in the Linked Address file.

During geocoding, MapInfo Professional reads each address in your data table and looks for a matching address in the Linked Address table. When MapInfo Professional matches the address in your customer table to an address in the Linked Address table, it assigns the corresponding X and Y coordinates to your customer record.

You will not be able to view these coordinates in a browser as they are kept internal to the database. To view the geocoded record in a map window, you must map your data table. The following section outlines general procedures for geocoding.

Geocoding a Data File

Here is how to geocode a file called CheeseShops.tab which contains the addresses of cheese shops in the UK. Adapt the script to geocode the data for your customers, potential customers or competitors.

1. Select Options > Preferences > Address Matching from the MapInfo Professional Main menu.

2. The Address Matching Preferences dialog box is displayed.

Select Numbers before street name because this is how addresses are formatted in the UK.

3. Click OK.

4. Open CheeseShops.TAB.

Note: MapInfo Professional can directly read files formatted in tab, dBASE/FoxBASE, Lotus 1-2-3, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Delimited ASCII. If your file is in a different format, save the file into Delimited ASCII format and open it using that format. For more information on the Open File dialog, see the MapInfo Professional documentation.

5. Open the Linked Address file, gbrix.tab.

6. Select Table > Geocode from the MapInfo Professional Main menu.

7. The Geocode dialog box is displayed.

Select CheeseShops from the Geocode Table drop-down list.

8. The first column in the CheeseShops table is used as the default column in the using Column drop-down list. In this instance, it is Address and so no change is necessary.

Select gbrix from the Search Table drop-down list.

9. The first column in the gbrix table is used as the default column in the for Objects in Column drop-down list. In this case, it is St_Num and so, once more, no change is necessary. Select Automatic in the Mode frame.

10. Click OK.

Note: The options in the bottom frame of the Geocode dialog box, with the exception of Symbol, are used in conjunction with refining tables. See the MapInfo Professional documentation for further information concerning the use of refining tables.

11. MapInfo Professional attempts to match the addresses in your database with an address in the Linked Address file. When a match is found, the corresponding X and Y coordinates are assigned to the address.

12. Once the operation is complete, MapInfo Professional displays the associated statistics. If you have any unmatched records, select Interactive in the Mode frame and try again.

13. Click OK.

14. Open the Layer Control dialog box.

Editing the Linked Address File

Using a Refining Table

To make your search more precise, you might consider using a refining table, particularly when you have streets that cut across multiple districts. In order for MapInfo to match to the appropriate record, you must tell it to search the boundary field as well as the address field. A successful match is one that matches both the street address and the boundary. If you do not use the refining table, your record will be geocoded to the first matching street MapInfo finds in the Linked Address file.

Note: StreetPro with Addresses does not include a refining table for postcodes.

Editing the Linked Address File

The Linked Address file (*x.tab) that you use for geocoding is made up of two other component tables-the Address Ranges table (*x1.tab) and the Street Names table (*x2.tab). You cannot edit the Linked Address table directly. Rather, you must edit the two component tables; these changes will be reflected in the Linked Address file.

The Address Ranges table contains graphic information including street segments, address ranges, and reference numbers. You can display this table in both map and browser windows. The Street Names table contains indexed street names. This table can only be displayed in a browser window because it does not have graphic information.

Both tables include the column MI_Refnum, which allows the data in the two tables to be associated together in the Linked Address file. The column contains reference numbers that are common to all three tables. You may notice that, while there is one unique reference number for each street name, different address ranges can have the same reference number. This is because each address range does not represent one street, but rather a segment of that street.

It is common for two different streets in the same region to have the same name. These street segments will also share a common reference number, even though the streets may be in different towns.

The following sections provide instructions for:

• Adding a Street to the Linked Address File on page 82.

• Deleting a Street from the Linked Address File on page 83.

• Reshaping a Street in the Linked Address File on page 84.

• Editing the Name of an Existing Street on page 84.

• Editing Street Line Styles and Colours on page 85.

Chapter 8: Geocoding using StreetPro with Addresses

Adding a Street to the Linked Address File

To add a new street to the Linked Address file, you will have to add the graphic object and the address ranges to the Address Ranges table. If the street name does not currently exist in the Street Names table, you will have to add the name to the Street Names table as well. Here is how to add a road called "Duigan Drive" to StreetPro United Kingdom:

1. Open the Address Ranges table, gbrix1.tab.

2. Open the Street Names table, gbrix2.tab.

3. Select Query > Select from the MapInfo Professional Main menu

4. The SQL Select dialog box is displayed.

Create a query to select all records in the Street Names with a street name of "Duigan Drive".

5. Click OK.

6. No records are selected. Therefore, a new record of the specified name can be added to the Street Names table. Click OK.

7. Select Edit > New Row from the MapInfo Professional Main menu, to add a new row to the Street Names table.

8. In the Street Name column, type in the name of the new street, Duigan Drive; and, in the MI_Refnmu column, type in a unique reference number, for example 900000.

Note: We suggest you start numbering your new streets from 900000 because such a strategy will enable you to easily differentiate between new and old reference numbers. Add any additional reference numbers sequentially.

9. Select Window > gbrix Map from the MapInfo Professional Main menu.

Chapter 8: Geocoding using StreetPro with Addresses

Reshaping a Street in the Linked Address File

You may want to reshape a street in the Linked Address file. This may happen if StreetPro’s source data does not reflect recent changes in a street. Proceed as follows:

1. Open the Linked Address table (*x.tab) in a map window.

2. Select Map > Layer Control and make the layer editable.

3. Select the segment you want to reshape.

4. To reshape the segment, click on an endpoint and drag it to a new position. If the street is a polyline, select Edit > Reshape, and follow the instructions in the MapInfo Professional documentation.

Editing the Name of an Existing Street

There are two types of corrections that you might want to make to street names:

• Edit the street name for all occurrences of the street.

• Edit the street name for some occurrences of a street.

Each method is discussed in the following sections.

Editing the Street Name for all Occurrences of a Street

To edit the name for all occurrences of a street, follow the instructions below.

1. Open the Linked Address table (*x.tab) in a browser window.

2. Find the name of the street using Query > Select, and select the records with your street name. A Query browser is displayed.

For more information about the Query feature in MapInfo Professional, consult the MapInfo Professional documentation.

3. Edit the information in the St_Nm field in the Query window. The Linked Address table is updated automatically.

4. Select File > Save Table to save the changes.

Editing the Street Name for Some Occurrences of a Street

There are some situations where you might want to change the name of some streets that share the same name:

1. Open the Linked Address table (*x.tab) in a browser window.

2. Determine whether the new name for the group of streets already exists in the table. This can be done using Query > Select. Select all records from the table with the same name as your street.

If no records are selected, you need to add a new record to the Linked Address table. Proceed from step 3.

If one or more records is selected, skip to step 5.

Note: For more information about MapInfo’s Query feature, consult the MapInfo Professional documentation.

Appendix A: Understanding Metadata

What Is Metadata?

Metadata, in its simplest definition, is data about data. Metadata describes the content, source, history, structure and support that may exist for a data product or entity. Pitney Bowes metadata exists in two forms:

• Metadata for the complete product is included in the ‘SPro_Metadata_2015_12.xml’ file in the Data\Metadata folder on the installation disk.

• Metadata as keyword and value pairs can be found within each MapInfo format table (.TAB file).

Our metadata is designed to be compliant with the 2003 ISO Geospatial metadata standard. As such, this enables the data products from Pitney Bowes to be available for data cataloging within any system that uses ISO metadata standards.

Purpose of Metadata

The main purposes of metadata is to provide a mechanism for you to identify the data product unambiguously, list all legal restrictions, and provide copyright information and contact information. This is important information for knowing the currency of the data, and to ensure that the correct and/or most recent version is being used. It is also the information required for identifying the correct data product when contacting Technical Support.

Metadata Sections

The following metadata sections are included at both product and table level:

• Metadata overview: Including language, character set and metadata standards.

• Contact and distribution information.

• Data Description: product name and version.

• Extent: north and south bounding latitudes, east and west binding longitudes.

What Is Metadata?

• Resource Constraints: The Pitney Bowes mapping software solutions that can be used with this product.

• Abstract: brief description of the product/table.

• Data Lineage: data source, provider and vintage.

• Spatial Reference System: projection, ellipsoid and datum.

Additional sections at product level:

• Keywords: layers in the product, plus country and national capital.

• Further Information.

Additional section at table level:

• Object information: number of points or regions.
