    1 Coverage and Schema

The StreetPro Traffic data provides information about comparative traffic volumes on specific road segments and their changes over time. It is important in network analysis to understand the traffic volumes because this will indicate areas and times of the day that significantly impact travel times.

  • StreetPro Traffic Product Guide

IntroductionStreetPro Traffic is the traffic data add-on to the StreetPro suite of Products*. It provides hourly Probe data counts for weekday and weekends that can be attached to the road networks available in the StreetPro products.

Probe counts represent the aggregate of the number of devices (satellite navigation devices & mobile phones using satellite navigation software) that were recorded on a road segment within the StreetPro road network during an hour.

    Probe Data Collection

The probe count data is collected from various sources and suppliers. These range from Navigation systems, fleet management and telematics tracking devices to mobile navigation applications, taxi services and tracking devices. Only suppliers with high quality and regular update frequency data are utilised to ensure the data is as accurate as it can be.

FeaturesThe numeric values contained in StreetPro Traffic represent the number of specific location enabled or navigation devices, that utilize the given segment of road within the specified hour as an average for that hour of the day over the preceding period. This information may be used for the following use cases:

As an input to traffic modelling processes that utilize actual counts in combination with StreetPro Traffic. The counts then may be used to calibrate the values in StreetPro Traffic to model actual volumes. This is useful for planning, retail site selection and logistics applications.

As an indicator of comparative traffic volumes, i.e. to understand which roads in a region carry the heaviest traffic by time of day this may be useful for understanding congestion patterns or comparing retail locations.

To model traffic volumes by time of day, i.e. to understand how the volume of traffic changes throughout the day this may be useful for planning purposes or for optimizing routes to avoid times of heavy road usage.

*StreetPro suite consists of StreetPro Display, StreetPro Classic, StreetPro Navigation, StreetPro Navigation Premium. Please note that StreetPro Traffic is not suitable for use with StreetPro Display.

Dataset information and Use in MapInfo Professional The StreetPro Traffic dataset is delivered in a PIPE delimited text file format The StreetPro Traffic Character Set is UTF-8 The StreetPro Traffic dataset contains field names in the first row of the data file Some country datasets are very large, such as the USA, and will require a significant

amount of memory to utilize them within MapInfo. To better utilize this data in a MapInfo environment you should extract the state/province or category of information you want and use the extracted file within MapInfo.

Select Delimited ASCII (*.txt) file type in the open dialog

Select the StreetPro Traffic text file you want to open.

  • StreetPro Traffic Product Guide

In the Delimited ASCII Information dialog, select Other delimiter type and enter the Pipe character (|) as the delimiter.

Change the File Character Set to Unicode UTF-8. Select the Use first line for column titles check box.

When the file is opened it will display in the MapInfo browser window. To display it on the map a TAB file set needs to be created.

Use the HOME or TABLE tab to open a Streets file from the product you are joining the StreetPro Traffic data to (i.e, StreetPro Navigation, Classic). In this example the G21_Streets table from StreetPro Navigation United Kingdom has been selected.

In the SQL Select Dialog box, select all columns (Select *) from the Streets table you have selected. Join the Streets with the Traffic table you have created using the FeatureID (from the StreetPro Classic product) or Feature_ID column (from the StreetPro Navigation and Navigation Premium products) and the Feature_ID from the StreetPro traffic table. E.G. G21_Streets.FeatureID = gbr_StreetPro_traffic.Feature_ID.
