SSIS delegates pose with confidence after the 4th Annual GINila Conference held at Brent International School Manila last March 03.
12 Valiant Knights Qualify in MTG YMIITP After the tremendous efforts exerted by the Valiant Knights in the
Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG) Mathematical Challenge for Filipino Kids Training
Program (MCFKTP), 12 of our Valiant Knights were recognized as top scorers and will
qualify in the 2018 MTG Young Mathematicians’ In-House Intensive Training Program
(YMIITP) this April. Congratulations to the following students who are about to soar high in the
MTG YMIITP!
Kudos also to Maria Bernadette Landicho and to Juan Rafael Landicho who
were recognized as the Outstanding Performers in their respective levels. They were
awarded Certificates of Recognition for their excellent performance.
The SSIS group is composed of the following students who showed awareness and passion in making action plans: Angela Andrei Macalalad, Maria Elyza Bautista, Katrina Garcia, and Cyrus Van Marabe. The competition was also participated in by International School Manila, Chinese International School Manila, and MIT International School Manila. The SSIS Group came up with the action plan called “Teach a Man to Fish” Program wherein they planned to teach younger ones of an adopted school the essence and basics of financial literacy. This specific activity is expected to address poverty issues of the community where the school belongs to.
To create feasible and consequential action plans that would apply students’ ideas to local communities and to acquire the skills to inspire change in their surroundings, some representatives from the Tenth Grade joined the 4th GINila Conference held at Brent International School Manila; Brentville Subdivision, Brgy. Mamplasan, Biñan, Laguna last March 3.
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS EMBARK ON A NEW LEARNING EXPERIENCE Inputs from: Mr. Jahzeal John Sevilla
No. 31 A.Y. 2017-2018 Page 2
We will now follow a new Student Council composition as announced in Special Bulletin #2, dated March 13, 2017. The new line up of officers will consist of a President from Grade 12, a Vice President from Grade 11, Secretary from Grade 10, Treasurer from Grade 9, Auditor from Grade 8, and Public Relations Officer from Grade 7. Level Representatives will also be elected from Grades 1-12 Here are the qualifications:
Candidates must have good academic standing, NO failing grades (LA or P), and not under academic probation, and must have no record of disciplinary case a year prior and/or during the previous term prior to the election.
Interested students must file a Certificate of Candidacy (CoC). Forms may be secured from the Office of Student Services. Deadline in the submission of CoCs is on March 26, 2018.
On April 6, 2018 SSIS students will experience the right to suffrage as they cast their votes for the student leaders who will govern the Student Council for the year 2018-2019.
As a simulation of the real elections, the candidates will be given a chance to discuss their platform during the Town Hall Meeting on April 2. The meeting and the campaign materials will enable the students to know their best bet. On the day of the elections, students will cast their votes using our E-lection system. As a proof of having cast their votes, their fingers will be marked with an indelible ink.
Campaign period starts on March 26 and ends on April 4. Here are the guidelines:
A candidate may be a part of a political party or may run independently. GUIDELINES FOR CAMPAIGN MATERIALS/ACTIVITIES
Campaign materials may be made of paper and tarpaulins. Allowed sizes are as follows:
a. 3.5 x 2 inches – business card size b. 8.5 x 11 inches – short bond paper size,
maximum of 8 pieces c. 22.5x 28.25 inches – cartolina size, maximum of
4 pieces only for individual candidates and 2 election party
Give-aways such as t-shirts, fans, bookmarks, button pins, baller, key chains, candies, cookies, food and beverage, and the like are strictly prohibited and will be confiscated if used. This is to eliminate the connotation of vote-buying among our kids.
All materials for posting must be approved and signed by the Student Services Head. The bulletin boards, hall area, cafeteria, and cafeteria walkway may accommodate your campaign materials provided that you will use masking tape in posting.
A candidate may wear his/her own button, an ID or a name tag as his/her campaign material, but he/she is not allowed to distribute them to the supporters to wear. An independent candidate will be allowed 4 posters instead of 2. This is to compensate for the lack of opportunity to do massive campaign as it is the advantage of candidates who are running under party leadership.
In the Town Hall Meeting, the candidates are allowed to present their platforms or campaign propaganda using Powerpoint. The presentation is limited to a maximum of 10 minutes for a political party and 5 minutes for an independent candidate.
ALL CAMPAIGN PARAPHERNALIA MUST BE TAKEN DOWN ON OR BEFORE WEDNESDAY, APRIL 4, 2018.

OF THE WEEK
For children to live balanced lives, parents need to help them
grow not only physically, emotionally, and intellectually, but spiritually
as well. Helping the children learn the value of spirituality poses a
great challenge to all the parents. That is because making the
children grow spiritually entails the parents to embody or model
righteousness and faith at all times.
The following are the ways on how the parents can help their
children develop the value of spirituality:
1. ENSURE SELF-AWARENESS
Help your child develop self-awareness through reflection,
practicing mindfulness, and challenging his or her biases and
prejudices. However, to help your child do this, you should also be
self-aware and full of self-belief for only then you can guide your
child.
2. DIFFERENTIATE NEEDS FROM WANTS
Teach your child the difference between what he or she needs
and what he or she wants. You can define needs as all that are
required for our survival, health, and happiness. For example, food
and water, security and shelter, education, and relationships. Are
considered as needs. Wants are all that aren’t necessary to either
survive or feel happy. Differentiating needs from wants will help your
child experience happiness and fulfilment, and prevent him or her
from becoming materialistic.
3. PROVIDE HOLISTIC EDUCATION
In addition to what your child learns in school, teach him or her
about spiritual values such as compassion and peace, about her
community and the surrounding environment, and about herself. Help
her learn to love herself, deal with personal issues, own up her actions,
and identify and achieve her goals. Holistic education can help your
child establish a connection between her mind and body.
4. SERVE HUMANITY
Encourage your child to show kindness and generosity by
giving him or her opportunities to indulge in acts like donating to the
needy, sharing his possessions, volunteering at community centres,
and showing appreciation. By learning to serve others, your child will
grow up to be an empathetic, caring, and responsible human being.
