My dear family of St. Matthew!

Last week, on Easter Sunday, I shared with you in this space a beautiful resource called the John Paul II Healing Center. St. John Paul II was so instrumental in the process of naming and celebrating today’s feast day immediately following Easter Sunday not only as the “Second Sunday of Easter,” but additionally celebrating it as DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY. St. John Paul II read, studied, meditated and eventually approved as authentic the amazing conversations that St. Faustina had directly with Jesus Himself, Who appeared to her numerous times under this image of the Divine Mercy that I reprint here on this page.

Divine Mercy is God revealing His deepest and most inner core of Himself — He is Love, He is Mercy Itself! And this Divine Mercy has come precisely to HEAL OUR BROKEN, BRUISED, HURT hearts! Again in last week’s bulletin, I mentioned my annual 5-day retreat which this year I happened to take at the beginning of this past February when I went on my camping-retreat to Long Pine Key Campground, Everglades, Florida. That’s when I listened to the full six-part series on CD’s of presentations which the JPII Healing Center had given to me. Dr. Bob Schuchts spoke profoundly and deeply on Holy Desire: The Path to Freedom, delving deeply into the meaning of the desires of our hearts, how they are or become disordered, how they are formed – or deformed – how they connect to our very identity, our heart, how we win the battle within and among our desires, and how our desires lead to fulfillment of life in your heart. In short, these talks were DEEP and POWERFUL and INSIGHTFUL!!! I cannot say enough about them! But that’s for another bulletin in the future perhaps.

Here, for now, I again wish to emphasize the importance of their work: WE ALL NEED HEALING, and WE ALL NEED DIVINE MERCY — healing comes precisely through Divine Mercy — healing of body and most especially healing of soul. Just look at today’s example of St. Thomas the Apostle: St. Thomas missed the first Easter Sunday. But the following week, Thomas was there and was able to put his hand in the wounds of Jesus. In the words of Pope Francis, Thomas responds to Jesus’ patience and “lets himself be enveloped by divine mercy; he sees it before his eyes, in the wounds of Christ’s hands and feet and in his open side, and he discovers trust. He is a new man, no longer an unbeliever, but a believer.” Thomas speaks the beautiful words of faith to Jesus: “MY LORD AND MY GOD!” Pope Francis continues, “It is there, in the wounds of Jesus, that we are truly secure; there we encounter the boundless love of his heart.” Our Holy Father Pope Francis also comments: “This is important: the courage to trust in Jesus’ mercy, to trust his patience, to seek refuge always in the wounds of his love…. For God, we are not numbers, we are important; indeed we are the most important thing to him. Even if we are sinners, we are what is closest to his heart.” So do not be afraid, go to Jesus, He is waiting for you, and He will take care of everything, we will heal you through his love and mercy! TRUST in Jesus and in His mercy. In the sacraments, we touch the wounds of Jesus and we can taste and see the goodness of the Lord!

Let me conclude again with the citation to the John Paul II Healing Center and let me simply plug this amazing place — their logo and their mission says it all! OUR MISSION – To promote and inspire transformation in the heart of the Church, by healing and equipping God’s people for the New Evangelization. OUR LOGO – The two hearts represent love and relationship. The larger heart represents Jesus’ Sacred Heart, full of mercy and compassion. The red color signifies Jesus’ Precious Blood, the source of our healing. The smaller heart represents Mary’s Immaculate Heart, and our own, resting within the Sacred Heart. Its gold color is a sign of the transformation and purification of the Holy Spirit. The Flame depicts the fire of the Holy Spirit. The Cross, in the form of St. John Paul II’s crozier, pierces both hearts, and is the sign of our healing and transformation.

This week, there is a NEW TEACHING SERIES of videos called Living the Resurrected Life: Founder and Presenter Dr. Bob Schuchts opens a new series which will last for the duration of the Easter season! Join, as we seek to live in the fullness of Christ's Resurrected life and live triumphantly in the Glory of our Savior! Both Dr. Bob and Sister Miriam James Heidland S.O.L.T., will be sharing an exhortation and teaching on what it means to live in the fullness of the resurrection by meditating on the Sunday Gospel Readings. In addition, the JPII Healing Center worship leader, Colleen Nixon, will close us in a time of prayer and worship. The first of this series can be found by clicking here: https://youtu.be/uAXy8UgxkY8, that is, Living the Resurrected Life Week 1. More wonderful material for healing and receiving God’s Mercy can be found at www.JPIIHealingCenter.org.

And finally, worried about Covid-19, then let me repeat the insightful message from Dr. Bob (concerning COVID-19 and how to care for yourself and others during this time: https://youtu.be/5Z6Oy0uVifM) or from Sr. Miriam James Heidland (He Cares For Us: https://youtu.be/TuGMuJY-_nM). Continuing prayers for Easter blessings of mercy and shalom and joy and good health for all!

In the living, loving, giving and caring Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Gregor

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the

Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You

sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there

and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

Important information regarding the Sacrament of Confession When the Sacrament of Confession is not readily available, and when the individual faithful find themselves in the painful impossibility of receiving sacramental absolution, it should be remembered that perfect contrition – coming from the love of God, beloved above all things, expressed by a sincere request for forgiveness and accompanied by the promise to confess when the opportunity returns – obtains forgiveness of sins, even mortal ones (please see the Catechism, no. 1452).
