ST MARY’S HOLY DOOR FAMILY PILGRIMAGE

- 10:00 AM TO 1:00 PM, SAT OCT 8 -

The Holy Doors

Pope Francis announced an opportunity for the faithful to obtain a

plenary indulgence during the Year of Mercy – December 8, 2015

to November 20, 2016 – by passing through a designated Holy

Door and fulfilling the usual conditions:

having an interior disposition of detachment from sin,

receiving sacramental Confession,

receiving Holy Eucharist,

praying for the intentions of the Holy Father.

Our Response

As the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy is drawing to a close,

St Mary’s is organizing a family pilgrimage to the Holy Door at

Notre Dame Cathedral on Saturday, October 8, 2016. What a

wonderful opportunity to pilgrimage together, with everyone in our

families, regardless of age, and with our fellow parishioners.

(Great opportunity for small Christian Communities to come

together.)

So far, the plan involves a bus, entrance through the Holy Door,

time of prayer and reflection and a picnic lunch in Major’s Hill

Park.

But we need to know how many people will attend. So we are

casting the net and asking you to consider attending and to watch

the Bulletin for more information.

Are You In?

Everyone is welcome to pass through Notre Dame Basilica’s Holy

Door!

St Mary’s is planning to provide:

transportation (bus leaves at 9:30)

activities

fellowship

picnic lunch (plse pack a lunch, light snacks will be provided)

Please RSVP before Oct. 1st to Penny by phone: 613-836-3405

or by email: [email protected] .

Dear Friends,

As Fr. Bob did when he preached here, I have encouraged you, both in this column and in my preaching, to not just give to the Lord but

to tithe. I have tithed since I was in my late teens. I have never been without what I needed. Tithing a ‘significant portion’ of our income

to the Companions of the Cross is how we both support the community and live a greater simplicity of life. I give to other groups and

organizations as well. All the same, I felt it was important as your pastor to be tithing to the parish. I’m giving what I recommend other

give: 5% of my gross income.

I’m grateful to those who have been tithing to St. Mary’s over the years. Our income is relatively high for a parish our size. I know we

went into our usual summer slump but the good news is that it is not a big a hole as it was last year. The giving at St. Mary’s is what

makes, and has made, possible some of the ministries here that touch not only the parish but also beyond.

There are a lot of exciting things happening. I have written in the past about the Mission, Vision and Values that have been discerned

for the parish. The hope is to say more about where the parish is going in a series of parish-wide meetings. At this point it looks like

those will take place in November. I’ll give you more details as they are firmed up.

I enjoy writing this column but I have begun asking myself whether I have time to do this each week. Again, as I mentioned above, I’m

excited about what is happening in the parish. For me to truly lead what the Lord seems to be doing means that I have to change how I

use my time. There are new developments that require an investment of my time. That means that I have to take that time from other

areas.

I haven’t made a final decision about this yet. I will speak to my Leadership Team to get their input.

What would you like to see our parish become? As Fr. Bob taught us, it’s not complicated. If enough of us give God permission to do

whatever he wants with each of us, then he will move. Does he have your permission or is he still waiting for it?

Fr. Sean
