Welcome to St Donats Arts Centre

Another bumper packed season ahead for St Donats with a programme ofevents to while away those wintery evenings ahead. We constantly strive todiversify our programme so that we can give you more choice & quality, so forthis season we are introducing comedy at St Donats in the guise of Steve Hall &Rob Deering. Two of the funniest comedians on the circuit today who have justrecently returned from a successful tour at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

An eclectic mix of live music from up & coming blues singer Sean Taylor, TheWhiskey Dogs & Mambo Jambo, plus of course two delightful performancesfor the kids from Sherman Cymru with the “The Elves & the Shoemakers”.Adding to this we have the ever popular Jazz Series & the Café concerts.Lastly but not least, to get you in the festive spirit we of course have theannual Crafts for Christmas Fayre, and a selection of Christmas concerts, withof course Stage Door 1’s Panto.

So there’s no reason for you to stay in this Winter I’m sure you’ll agree!

Whiskey Dogs play authentic, good timeAmericana!

Old time mountain music, hillbilly blues, dust-bowl ballads and jug band hokum are all playedin the crazy spirit of the 1920s and 30s by thisgreat trio.

The Whiskey Dogs promise you real Americana,influenced by legends like The Carter Family andMemphis Jug Band as well as by contemporarybands such as The Old Crow Medicine Show andThe Carolina Chocolate Drops.

Fronting the band with his powerful, soulfulvocals is Pete Bolton who, before forming TheWhiskey Dogs, toured extensively with hisprevious Americana band, The Alley Cats,performing at festivals and arts venuesthroughout the UK and Europe.

The Whiskey Dogs, in authentic string bandstyle, use guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle anddouble bass to bring a driving energy to theirmusic. Kazoos, whistles, horns and even a one-string phono-fiddle add a zany twist to theirup-beat performances.

Welsh harpist Hannah Stone hasbecome the new Official Harpist toHRH The Prince of Wales. The post ofOfficial Harpist to HRH The Prince ofWales was reinstated in 2000 to helpcelebrate and foster musical talent inWales and to raise the profile of theharp as an instrument. Hannah is thefourth person to take on the role. Shehas performed in many prestigiousvenues including the Barbican Centre,LSO St. Luke’s, St. John’s Smith Squareand the Museum of London.

The sound of the harp is quite simplybeautiful!

A National Exhibition Untold Stories

Untold Stories, is the firstnational creative artexhibition developed tocommemorate NationalHolocaust Memorial Day2011, held annually on 27th January.

People from communitiesacross Wales were asked to submit theirstories, images and poetry to illustrate howworld wars and other tragedies haveimpacted on their lives, with the aim tocombine people’s past experiences andmemories to produce a legacy for Wales.

The project was developed by the Vale ofGlamorgan Council following an extremelysuccessful series of similarly focused annualarts exhibitions shown at the Council’sprestigious Art Central Gallery in Barry. Theexhibition was developed in partnership withand received support from the WelshAssembly Government and the HolocaustMemorial Day Trust.

1st – 24th November

Adrian Paul Metcalfe Imagine Seas

The work I haveproduced is abstractand no one specificmeaning can orshould be sought.The titles suggestpossibilities to theviewer whileremaining open to

individual interpretation, encouraging anengagement in personal contemplation andcreative thought. As many questions areraised, as are answered but the works seekto explore the possibilities of existence andcelebrate the richness of life. I hopereaders will explore the work forthemselves, find their own meanings, andenhance their own voyage of discovery. 16

Glam Dram With its magnificent performance and rehearsalspaces, St Donats Arts Centre is a superb venue for theatrical shows, plays and musicals. The onlything missing is a resident Theatre Company foradults - until now!

Silures Art Group -PorthcawlThe Garden

The work in this exhibition is theculmination of many visits by members ofthe Silures Art Group to the Georgiangarden which is being reclaimed, at HomeFarm, Coytrahen.

In July the paintings were arranged andshown within the garden and the proceedswere donated to the Latch charity.

Silures Art Group is based in Porthcawl andhas its own gallery at 40 South St,Porthcawl, CF36 3DG

This is an exhibition ofhandmade felt piecesbased mainly on thecoastline in the Vale,local people willrecognise the distinctivecliff formations. Theartist uses Merino fleeceto which is added avariety of fibres , fabrics
