Be part of the Winter Arts Festival Launch!It’s time to party! Come and celebrate the beginning of the 2019 festival and the arrival of the ‘bunnies’ (see this page for more info on Intrude). Wear your beanie to ‘bling on the night with upcycling superstars Sarah Seahorse and Luna Aquatica, and BYO mug to enjoy our FREE soup and hot chocolate. Meet and chat members of the local arts community and see preview performances of Winter Arts Festival shows. It’s all FREE and all are welcome.

Voice. Treaty. Truth. The Indigenous voice of this country is over 65,000 years old. This year’s NAIDOC theme celebrates the voices of this continent, passed down over millennia and carrying lore, culture and knowledge.

Artist Amanda Parer brings her world-renowned installation Intrude to Bunjil Place this winter. Intrude is a light installation of giant bunnies whose gentle appearance take on a sinister undertone when scaled up to such an enormous size. Come and experience this leading contemporary artwork in the plaza during June.

Yarn and Art are a group of indigenous artists who are based in Casey and meet regularly to paint and yarn. This NAIDOC week visit the Bunjil Place Studio to view their artworks and yarn with the artists. Pictured is Connection to Country 2018 by Joy Sellars.

Yarn and Art Exhibition

DRMNGSVRGN is a work by artist DRMNGNOW (Neil Morris) which will include an exclusive performance of reworked pieces such as Australia Does Not Exist, Indigenous Land and Ancestors. This unique performance will feature special collaborations with other First Nations artists that are a part of the current wave of Indigenous artists presenting cutting edge narratives on the increasingly unavoidable subject of Indigenous Sovereignty/Sovereign narratives.

Indigenous cultures have long interpreted changes in the seasons through careful observation of local plants and animals. In this season’s Indigenous program, families are invited to explore the many changes in the plants growing in the Australian Garden and surrounding bushland during Guling (Orchid season). Search for flowering native orchids, learn how some fungi and Orchids nurture each other and investigate the beautiful details of winter blooms and fungi under a microscope. Get your hands dirty while planting seeds and create nature-inspired artwork to take home.

This year’s NAIDOC theme ‘Voice. Treaty. Truth.’ Let’s Work together for a shared future celebrates more than 65,000 years of the Indigenous voice; a voice that shares knowledge, connects us to country and strives for true reconciliation.

In the spirit of this commitment to a better future, and to mark the United Nations International Year of Indigenous Languages, the local community joins with the Gardens to host its annual NAIDOC event. Activities include cultural workshops, performances, bush tucker tours and a history of Treaty.

Casey Big Sing is a one-day event of choral workshops for young people ending in a public concert. Workshops will be streamed for primary and secondary students and the event is presented by guest conductors in conjunction with Melbourne Youth Chorale music staff. The concert will include performances from guest artists and local school choirs/ensembles.

2019 St Andrew’s Hymn Fest

Littlefoot & Co present Spoken Word Nights

The 3rd Annual Hymn Fest at St Andrew’s Berwick Uniting Church is back by popular demand. Come along for a fun filled afternoon and sing well known and loved hymns together with St. Andrew’s Choir, Pipe Organ, Soloists and ‘Journey Bound’ band in our 160-year-old heritage listed church. The event is fundraising for Community outreach, and afternoon tea is provided.

Mariachi Magnificence at the Berwick & District Folkclub

Voices Torogoz will be sure to entertain you and get your feet tapping! They will be joined by Matt Westwood, a local violinist and composer extraordinaire. Voices of Casey – Open Mike

Cranbourne Lions Concert Band Trivia Night

The Cranbourne Lions Concert Band are once again holding their highly entertaining trivia night, where the questions are based on the music that the band plays. Test your pop culture knowledge and battle the other tables for the ultimate bragging rights and prizes. Casey Choir presents a fabulous concert from the best of their 21 years. The choir has 55 members and concert guests include St. Margaret’s Choir. Artists across Casey and Cardinia throw open their doors for one weekend each year – the popular Open Studios Weekend! Get a glimpse behind the scenes as you tour the studios of local printmakers, painters, ceramicists, photographers and more. Purchase a unique, sustainable, locally made artwork for Christmas or sign up to take classes with a local maker. There’s plenty to see and do at this weekend of discovery. Bookings not required to visit any of the studios.

Carolyn Christian makes Murano glass beads using a technique called lampwork. Pop of Colour features the artist’s use of vibrant single coloured beads, strung with sterling silver and Swarovski crystals to create matching jewellery pieces.

Dale Key’s exhibition of flowers growing in the City of Casey is described through his verse. A brilliant blue is pierced by golden beams of warming sun as the gardens of our city burst open wide with newly formed blossoms that seem to trumpet “spring is here, spring is here”.

Paper Landscapes

Experience a unique exhibition of sculptured paper artworks inspired by both Melbourne and Cranbourne Gardens. Internationally acclaimed paper sculpture artist, Ray Besserdin sculpts paper made from cotton, hemp and mulberry fibres, into astonishing three-dimensional artworks expressing his fascination with nature. In a career spanning 30 years and 24 awards, Ray’s artworks are prized worldwide. The Path to Gondwana, created for this exhibition, recently won a Gold Medal for Creativity from Mondial Art Acadamie, France.

Lynbrook Winter Ukulele Festival 2019

The Lynbrook Winter Uke Festival is focused on encouraging group performances from Ukulele Clubs and School Uke groups in the City of Casey and surrounding Councils. The one-day festival will include: Group performances, Workshops, Kids Classes, Open Mike session, and a large Community Jam session to close out the day. There will also be a wide variety of Ukulele and related product available including tutor and song books, accessories, amps and cases.
