Dear Friends and Neighbors,

February was in and out like a flash!

One of the high events for this last month was the Men’s Two Day Invitational, a member-guest golf tourney. It was excellent in all respects. The Fazio II Course received outstanding comments from all. Each dining venue was extremely well done, from breakfast, to the wonderful dinner to the closing buffet. The Golf Staff led by Paul Clivio and his welcoming group truly outdid themselves. St. Andrews was the envy of ALL!

On January 29 we held an informational meeting – about 200 members attended-with respect to the Club Improvement Plan (CIP). There was a full presentation by the Board of the CIP, its current status and its projected completion. A complete financial presentation was provided which was followed by a Q&A. We believe this was very productive.

With respect to the CIP we continue to be within budget and within our timeline schedule. Our focus is now principally on the Spa and Recreation Area and the Tennis and Fitness Facility.

This month our General Manager, Craig Martin led a meeting with approximately 70 members attending, regarding the Grille. In advance of the meeting a survey was circulated among the membership seeking points of view of the food and service at the Grille. We realize this has been a hot topic and management is using the feedback received from the membership to make responsible and appropriate changes. This forum along with the confidential survey did give our members an opportunity to express their views.

We are now readying ourselves for the Club elections for the upcoming year. An important date to record is March 14 when you can Meet the Candidates at 4:30 p.m. in the St. Andrews Room.

On the financial side we continue to do well. As of the present date we have closed 11 homes and have another 11 sales in process. This compares favorably with home sales and in process at the same time last year. For your information in the past two years we have:

• Sold 111 homes

• Converted 17 non-member homes creating additional revenue

• Average home price per square foot in 2015-2016 was $254 and so far this year the average is $318

Further, I am very happy to report that through February, we continue to be ahead of our operating budget for this fiscal year.

Previously I’ve given a shout out to individual Board members but this month I want to give a shout out to the entire Board of Governors. Together we have made many decisions after much deliberation and in good faith. We have been collegial, constructive and have accomplished many items on our ambitious agenda. The personal time devoted by all members of the Board was substantial and is deserving of our gratitude. Steve Greenwald and Ron Hoffner will be stepping off the Board this year for their time and commitment to serving the Club and membership for the past three years. Thank you Both.

All best,

Steve IrwinPresident, Board of Governors

Dear Members:

The season is in full swing with a flurry of daily programs and events for the membership to enjoy. Almost all of the planned events are selling out quickly so please be sure to make your reservations early to avoid being on a wait list. Members enjoyed our Member Art Show on March 3-5 spearheaded by the Cultural Arts Committee, chaired by Ed Cooperman. The 5th Annual Color War is scheduled for March 17-19 and our talented Color War Camp Director, Ron Gallatin promises to deliver another fun filled event for all members to participate in some form or fashion. We hope you will get involved in these upcoming events. Plans are underway for a spectacular Spring Social event in April and recommend you make your reservations early! Be sure to read Linda Spielmann’s article on page 19 for more information.

We appreciate all the constructive feedback given at our recent open forum meeting on February 16. Those items discussed will be addressed and we look to implement positive changes to ensure the Club meets and exceeds your expectations. Rick Dente and the Food & Beverage operations staff are working hard to accommodate the 700 members and their families.

We are very proud of the Golf department for their two recent awards: Top 100 Golf Shops in America and the 2017 CMAA Idea Fair award for their holiday golf events. Kudo’s to Paul Clivio and his talented team. Congratulations are also in order to our Food & Beverage for their 2017 CMAA International Wine Society Award of Merit. Rick will provide more information about the award on page 3.

Enjoy the Club and every moment to its fullest.

Best,

Craig D. Martin, C.C.M.

What an eventful season we have had thus far. From celebrating the holidays with record attendance to ringing in the New Year and supporting another incredibly successful Morgan & Friends event, we have started 2017 with a bang! But there’s still much more to come… The ever exciting, competitive and always fun Color War is around the corner and don’t forget about our Spring Social. We are looking to close out the season the way we began it…with a celebration of friendship, community and comradery that one can only find at St. Andrews. Also, we are proud to announce that St. Andrews has received the International Wine Society Award of Merit. This award is presented by the Club Managers Association of America to the most distinguished

clubs in respect to their Wine and Fine Dining programs. Also, St. Andrews will be recognized in the CMAA’s International publication “The Grape Vine” and various other CMAA publications. This award distinguishes St. Andrews Fine Dining program from other Clubs. A big thank you to John Onsa, our Food and Beverage Manager for submitting St. Andrews Country Club for this prestigious award. Congratulations to our entire Food and Beverage team. Thank you for representing St. Andrews and being the Best of the Best.I would like to thank all the members that attended the Repartee with Rick meeting this past month. We appreciate all your feedback and suggestions. We are always looking to improve our club operations so that we may provide our members with the best club experience possible. As always, thank you to all our members for supporting the Club. Let’s continue to make 2017 the best year yet.I look forward to seeing you around the Club.

Paul Clivio, Director of Golf

A busy February kicked off with the Men’s 2-Day Invitational. The weather was perfect and the men enjoyed a great weekend of camaraderie and competition. Congratulations to Mark Adler and his guest Michael Albert who were the overall winners of this year’s event. Next up was the S.A.W.G.A. annual winter mixer. This year’s theme was “All Fore Love” and host Terry Greenstein and her committee ran an amazing event. The day began with three separate professional clinics, followed by brunch, and then a nine hole golf event. The Presidents’ week Junior Clinic series was next on the calendar and this year the kids were treated to five different events each day covering Long Game, Chipping, Putting, Mini-Golf, and

a par three event on the driving range. The Mixed Member-Guest was on Sunday, February 26 and it was nothing short of spectacular. This year Ina Rae Fox put together a “Casino Themed Event” that was filled with food, drinks, golf, casino games and a very special gift. The month closed with a beautiful display of PINK; “Play for Pink” that is. Shelly Harris and her committee once again did an incredible job raising monies for such a great cause.

MARCH WILL PROVE TO BE OUR BUSIEST MONTH OF THE SEASON WITH THE FOLLOWING EVENTS:• February 28 Ladies Play for Pink• March 1 Men’s Play For Pink• March 4 Cleveland/Srixon/XXIO Demo Day• March 5 Husband & Wife Club Championship• March 10 -12 Men’s Golf Classic• March 16 Ladies Member-Guest• March 17 – 19 Color War Event• March 18 New Golfer Clinic• March 21, 23 & 28 WGA Club Championship• March 24 Callaway Demo Day• March 25, 26, April 1 - 2 Men’s Club Championship• March 31 Men’s 1-Day Member-Guest

ews Another busy month for St. Andrews Women’s Golf Association!

Terry Greenstein chaired our winter break event on Valentine’s Day, “All Fore Love” which was open to all 9 & 18 hole golfers. Our red & white clad golfers had a great morning beginning with clinics on putting given by Mike Johnson and Terry Farino, chipping given by Chris Brady and Matt Adrian, and driving given by Glenn Hall and Scott Hall, followed by a delicious brunch prepared by Chef Steve and a nine-hole tournament. It was a great way to work on improving our skills. We had a record year for this year’s Play for P.I.N.K. with over $50,000 raised! Even before the hand-delivered invitations went out, Shelley Harris and Advisory Chair, Alice Kent were busily preparing for our February 28 event. “Thank you” to them as well as Judy Cooperman, Jane Davis, Darlene Eisenstein, Judi Falk, Helene Krauss, Hillane Kroft, and Susan Schneider. Additional monies received from the “Boards” sold by Peggy DeZwerik and Alice Kent. It was

great to welcome donors who don’t golf to be with us at our beautiful lunch! Congratulations to all of our winners! What a day! Thursday, March 16 many of you and your guests will arrive in Italy with their “passports in hand” for “summertime Par Tee in Capri, hosted by Robin Milich and Amy Ross. Dressed in the colors of the beautiful waters surrounding this chic island: turquoise, green, yellow, we’ll be enjoying a lovely breakfast followed by golf and a gorgeous luncheon. Have you seen the bulletin board in our lockeroom? What a great job Candy Mesner has done! Months of birthdays on display. Happy Birthday wishes for good health, happiness and good golf to our S.A.W.G.A. members.Get ready for Club Championship beginning March 21, March 23, and March 28. Inclement weather date is March 30. The format for all flights is match play; No handicaps! Wendy Kohansky, Linda Shaw, Eileen Goldman and Sherrie Becker have their titles to defend. **Please check the sign-up book in the Pro Shop for details** There will be a celebration party on Sunday, April 2 for all winners, women and men, at the Club. Our Tuesday tournament schedule continues to draw a full field of 18 & 9 holers. Hope you’re one of them!See you on the green,

Meryl Gallatin, for S.A.W.G.A.

Our annual Super Bowl Jr. Tennis Pizza Party took place two days prior to “The Big Game” and all the kids (ages 4 – 12) had an amazing time. Twenty-five children participated this year and after tennis/football games were played, pizza was served and the famous kids Super Bowl raffle took place. Thanks to all the little

ones who supported this fun filled event.

One other recent event to report on was our Mixed Doubles Tournament. We had a record 12 teams battle it out in 2 divisions and after 5 tough rounds of competitive play, winners were crowned. Blue Division Champions: Arleen Naids & James Grodd. Finalists: Debbie Gross & Kyle Silverman. Red Division Champions: Sally & Edmund Rowley-Williams. Finalists: Janie Simon & Sam Messing. Congrats to all!

Our four ladies teams are currently all playing very well and will be wrapping up their respective seasons at the end of March and April. Keep up the great playing ladies and let’s finish strong!

Some terrific upcoming events include our Men’s Member – Guest (Friday, March 10), Color War (Saturday, March 18), Ladies Member – Guest (Monday, March 27) and finally our Parent - Child Event (Friday, March 31). Please sign up to participate in these great events as they are already filling up real fast.

On a final note, a big congratulations goes out to our sovereign of the courts, King David, otherwise known as our Head Tennis Professional Dave Provence. Dave was recently inducted into the Palm Beach Open Tennis Hall of Fame for his over 30 years of service, dedication, commitment and support of the Palm Beach County Tennis Community. Congrats Dave and well done!!

See you on the Courts!

• Color War is Here! It’s the annual Battle for Bragging Rights. Black vs Red. If you haven’t started already, it’s time to start training so you can help your team keep/bring back the trophy. Red team is feeling very cocky with the fitness win last year, but they don’t realize Black has been recruiting for a month now. It’s going to be much closer this year!

• Please attend our complimentary Vine Room Lecture on “Losing Belly Fat.” Nutrition Educator, Maureen, will be here on Wednesday, March 15 at 6:00 p.m. for an informative lecture on trimming down your mid-section. After the lecture you can stroll right into the Gallery for a healthy delicious dinner.

• The new Peloton Bikes have been very popular. If you haven’t already, stop in and create a user log-in (or use ours) and take a spin with some fellow riders!

Thank you to our ladies and gentlemen that partook in our Spray Tan Event last month. Our beautifully bronzed

members of St. Andrews Country Club get the very best sunless tan from the world’s first odorless and completely non-toxic tanning brand; free from parabens, perfume, alcohol and all chemical of concern. Our spray tan, Vita Liberata, is known to have passionate experts in skincare and tanning. This luxury line utilizes the purest ingredients in the tanning world and was chosen hands down because of their integrity to wellness and beauty to be the line used on you. Sunless Ultra Hydrating Glow Tan Body $45 Legs $25

Tip for the Golfer and Tennis Player:To balance out the look of the foot to the leg apply your self-tanner to the tops of your feet blending halfway down the sides. Wipe away any tan lines with a dry cloth to give a totally natural finish. Always work away from the nail bed, back up the foot and blend at the ankle.

Spa Tips & Etiquet teGoing to the spa is a wonderful way to reserve time that is just for you to relax and unwind. To get the best out of your visit each month we’ll provide you with a basic tip.Arrive on Time We recommend arriving 15 minutes prior to your treatment. Checking in early allows for you to shower, change, relax in the sauna / steam room or enjoy our massage chairs prior to your service. Arriving late takes away from your treatment time. Make yourself the priority, you deserve it!

SEPARATING MYTH FROM FACT FOR NUTRITION AND EXERCISE

Myth: You have to eat “perfectly” all the time. Fact: There is no such thing as eating “perfectly.”

Myth: You have to count every calorie you eat. Fact: You should count “portions,” not calories.

Myth: You need to drink water only when you are thirsty. Fact: Your body needs more water than it’s telling you.

Myth: If you “eat right,” you don’t need to take supplements. Fact: Studies show many of us do need to take supplements.

Myth: If you exercise, it doesn’t matter what you eat. Fact: If you exercise, it matters even more what you eat.

Myth: Aerobics is better for shaping up than weight training. Fact: To transform your physique, you must train with weights.

Myth: If women lift weights, they’ll get “bulky.” Fact: Resistance exercise helps women create lean, toned bodies.

Myth: Weight training is only for young athletes. Fact: People of all ages should be weight training.

Myth: A certain number of sets and reps get the job done. Fact: High-intensity effort produces the best results.

Myth: Muscles grow while you’re working out. Fact: Muscles grow while you’re resting and recuperating.
