Dear Friends and Neighbors, As you may know the end of March is a transition time for St. Andrews. Board elections have been held and the incoming Board members are Larry Altschul, Janyce Dean Speier, Robin Milich and Artie Grossbard. We look forward to another good year at St. Andrews with these members joining our Board. With great appreciation for their substantial years of service to the Club we say thank you to Mike Goldman former President and Treasurer; Alice Friedman former Secretary and Chair of Legal Committee and to Wendy Kohansky former Chair of the Membership, Tennis and Children’s Committees. You should have already received electronic notices regarding committee appointments. Participation on our committees are a great tradition at St. Andrews. It is from this broad membership that the Board receives feedback as to the thoughts of membership on various aspects of club life. I encourage you to become involved. That said and with the understanding that we try to accommodate all persons seeking committee membership; we try to establish each committee with about 10 members in order to keep the committees efficient and effective. We had a very large number of members attending our recent Annual Meeting and Town Hall. A full discussion was had regarding club management including a financial report, the Club Improvement Plan update on the Spa, Tennis & Fitness facilities and an overview of the Club Security Plan that will be forth coming in detail in several weeks. Karen and I recently attended the Celebrity Chef Dinner featuring Chef Darren McGrady. It was a fascinating evening as Chef McGrady, former personal chef to Queen Elizabeth II, Diana, Princess of Wales and Princes’ William and Harry for 15 years, entertained us with a glimpse inside their daily lives complete with his private slideshow. Working with Chef Steve and his team, he prepared a “feast fit for a Queen” with many of the royal families’ favorite dishes. Everyone in attendance wholeheartedly agreed that this was a very special event and we are fortunate to have it hosted at St. Andrews. On the business side, at of the end of March we had 17 homes sales concluded and have 3 sales in process which is a bit less than we had last year at this time but is highly satisfactory nonetheless. Operating results remain ahead of budget. And CIP is on time and within budget We all look forward to another Great Year at St. Andrews. All best,

Steve IrwinPresident, Board of GovernorsP.S. St. Andrews is Moving Forward!

Dear Members:

Congratulations to Larry Altschul, Artie Grossbard, Robin Milich and Janyce Dean Speier on your appointment to the Board of Governors. We are most appreciative of those departing members who served on the Board, Michael Goldman, Alice Newman Friedman and Wendy Kohansky for their valuable time and experience. There is a lot of time dedicated to serving in this capacity and learning the role that is very important to a $29 Million annual business and over a one billion dollar brand gated community. The duty is one that requires commitment to understanding the Bylaws and governance role required, and collaboration in working with the professional staff to serve the membership’s needs and expectations. It is not an easy task as it requires looking at all views objectively and working together with the other Board members to make decisions for the membership.

We have enjoyed seeing so many members participate in the outstanding schedule events this past month such as the Men’s Classic Golf event, Ladies’ Tennis Member Guest, Color War, Ladies’ Golf Member/Guest event, wonderful lectures and off property day trips to Little Havana and the Marlins pre-season exhibition game in Jupiter and to the thoroughbred training facility.

Congratulations to those participants involved in all of the clubs organized events. This is the spirit of a winning club.

I returned from the annual Club Managers Association of America world conference with great pride in learning of our team’s successes in the annual Idea Fair competition where we placed first and received a blue ribbon for our Builder/Investor Program. Also, so many of my peers referred to St. Andrews in many of the educational programs as the benchmark of great clubs on standards of excellence. We forget sometimes how fortunate we are to live in a premier area of the country and blessed with the great things that make St. Andrews so special. I have much to be proud of especially working at such a great Club with so many dedicated professionals and members alike who volunteer on committees and the Board. Thank you for all making this a special place.

What a wonderful season we have had thus far and as we head in to the final stretch we still have some exciting events to look forward to. Our closing social is always a special night where our members get to round out their season with one last grand event with their friends and neighbors. Following last year’s success we will continue to celebrate the closing social under the stars with a culinary feast, music from Party on the Moon and most importantly each other.

I would like to congratulate Ron Gallatin and all involved in yet another fantastic Color War weekend. As always we had great participation and the comradery and sportsmanship amongst the members and the staff was wonderful to see. This was St. Andrews at its best.

Thank you to our Cultural Events Committee this year for the various events and day trips that were planned. We have seen increased participation from the membership and we are looking forward to the continued variety of programming still to come.

Thank you to all our members for spending time with us at the Club. I would like to wish all those travelling this summer a safe journey and we look forward to seeing you back soon. For our members that are with us year round we have an exciting summer ahead with a variety of dining and social programming as well as the completion of our new spa in mid-summer. Exciting times ahead.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Club.

Best regards.

Federica DavisDirector of Club Operations

March was an extravagant month in Food & Beverage, we saw amazing events such as the Bee Gees Tribute Show & Dinner, the Herb Garden Dinner with a Mediterranean flavor and the opera singer Warren Tesh, the Ladies’ Golf Members Guest and the special “Royal Dinner” with celebrity Chef Darren McGrady.

The holiday weekend was upon us and the team was ready: over 600 members and guests celebrated Passover Seder Dinner and everybody had a wonderful time. Easter Brunch and the “egg hunters” celebration for the kids topped everybody’s expectations.

A Big Thanks to the staff team and Ron Gallatin for making our 6th Annual Color War a huge success! What a great time was had by all. Over 200 adults and children attended the Sunday afternoon events and party which

concluded the 2018 Color War in grand St. Andrews style.

Another very successful “Friendly Feedback Forum” was held in the month of March. The forum was led by our member, Arene Lazar and members of the Board, Ed Rice and Wendy Kohansky who served as House Chair and Vice Chair this season and Ellen Liebman, Bridge & Grievance Chair. Over forty members were in attendance and shared their thoughts on a variety of topics. Some of the comments from members centered and acknowledged that positive changes made to the variety of items offered on our current menus and buffet nights as requested. Also, the dessert selections and the individual display of desserts was recognized as a positive addition to our menus and buffet presentations.

The Spring Social event is right around the corner and we hope you will be attending “Another Evening in Paradise” with Party on the Moon being held on Saturday, April 14. This is an event you do not want to miss! We are excited about the social format with plenty of tables, ample seating and delectable food stations featuring items such as grilled lobster tails, shrimp skewers, carving stations with extra thick veal chop, skewered double lamb chops, and much more. So, join us to socialize, eat, drink and enjoy the music.

I look forward to seeing you there.

On GreenTHE

March kicked right off with the crowning of the new 2018 Husband & Wife Club Champions and it took an extra hole to do it. Marcy & Peter Franz and Gwen & Robert Zack each shot the low round with a gross 82 and then Franz pulled it out on the first playoff hole to capture the crown for the first time. Other fight winners included Gwen & Robert Zack, Sue & Randy Katz, and Kerri & Stuart Benson. Congratulations to all our 2018 Champions.

The 25th Annual “Men’s Golf Classic” was next on the schedule. Captain Ira Pardo led the team of Jerry Levitt, Aaron Rappaport, Joe Copulsky, and Mark Ticotin into this year’s winners circle with a record two day total of 22 under par. This was Captain Pardo’s second straight Classic victory and the third in a row for Jerry Levitt who became the first player to win back to back to back titles. They were able to hold off a strong push from Team Leven who recorded a 2-day total of 21 under par. Team Schneider and Team Bender tied for third carding 18 under par for the 2-day event. Captain Mark Abrams lead the team of David Goldman, Joe Ouslander, Frank Gutman, and Bob Beber to victory in the Dread-Sea Shootout at the kick-off on Friday night. This event raised more than $27,000 for the Boca Raton Regional Hospital and has raised more than $650,000 over the past 25 years. Congratulations to all who helped make the event one of the best ever.

Next up was the Ladies’ Member-Guest and Tournament Chairs Mindy Goldman & Lori Gottsegen put together a day to remember as St. Andrews was transformed into the “Run for the Roses.” 194 members and their quests were treated to St. Andrews version of the Kentucky Derby and it was nothing short of spectacular. The attention to detail was impeccable and the day was simply beautiful with great gifts, amazing food, and yes “The Hats and The Horses.”

St. Andrews Color War event was next on the schedule or as the members like to call it “Camp St. Andrews.” This spectacular 3-day event had more than 320 members participating in card games, tennis, fitness, and golf activities throughout the weekend. Then it moved to the driving range for more camp activities and concluded with a party at the pool. Thanks to Ron Gallatin for all the work he puts into making this one of the premier club events each year.

The Ladies’ first Annual 9-Hole Member-Guest was held on Thursday, March 22. Terry Greenstein and Joyce Wertheimer put together the “Gallery of French Impression” themed event that simply put was beautiful. Members and their guests enjoyed a fun 9-hole event sandwiched between a wonderful brunch and cocktails & hors d’oeuvres. This amazing day wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work they did to make it such a success.

beginning of March and everyone that participated seemed to have a good time in spite of the chilly weather. The following members were winners in the three flights: Flight 1- Wendy Kohansky Flight 2- Lori GottsegenFlight 3- Susan Katz

I have just returned from the most amazing 18 Hole Member Guest that ranks up there with the Best We Ever Had. Many thanks and Kudos to our charming chairmen Mindy Goldman and Lori Gottsegen who were strutting around in their Derby Attire.

On March 15, St. Andrews had the Kentucky Derby as our theme. Everyone really got into the spirit of things and went all out with their outrageous hats and costumes. We started the day with a fabulous brunch and then proceeded to play 18 holes of golf with a shamble format. After golf we went to the St. Andrew Room for a cocktail hour and an early dinner. The menu was outstanding, the centerpieces were fantastic and everyone received a pair of golf shoes and a cashmere and

FEBRUARY 27 & 28, 2018 was a banner year for PLAY for P.I.N.K. At St. Andrews Country Club.

More than 220 women and 65 plus men supported the event. Together we raised more than $64,000 with more still coming in.

The golf event was exciting with 164 women playing and the luncheon activities put a smile on everyone’s face. We were so excited to have the support of the tennis and non-golf members who bought sponsorships, raffles and money boxes!

There is no way this day could have succeeded in the way it did without the incredible committee composed of Arlene Ruff, Judy Cooperman, Hillaine Kroft, Harriet Shapps, Rita Waldorf and Alice Kent. The unsung heroes are too numerous to list but I want you all to know that we all thank you many times over.

Aaron Krickstein Director of Tennis

As we head into the home stretch of our tennis season, I would like to report on some recent very successful events: Our Men’s Member-Guest tournament had 12 teams participate this year and after battling hard for more than 2.5 hours, champions were crowned. In the Federer Division, Champions Alex Bertalanffy & Peter Grunert defeated Finalists David Lomnitz & guest Dave Beinhacker. In the Nadal Division, Champions Jerry Rich & guest Ben Vogel edged out Finalists Kyle Silverman & guest Howard Weinstein. Congrats to all trophy winners!

The Ladies’ Member-Guest event, led by amazing co-chairs Candy Mesner and Lori Toffler, was a resounding success. St. Andrews Cellars was the theme and everything was perfect – on and off the court! On the court, 18 teams in three divisions competed hard and results are as follows: Cabernet Division: Champions Arleen Naids & Cindy Woldow, Finalists Melissa Hoffman & Leslie Glenn, 3rd Place Debbie Gross & Lisa Goldstein. Merlot Division: Champions Marilee Susi & Karin Moros, Finalists Lisa Sandel & Jen Kaufman, 3rd Place Karen Allegianis & Natalia Dorsey. Chardonnay Division: Champions Merv Bell & Jen Vogel, Finalists Susan Grossbard & Jill Zarin, 3rd Place Dawn Weisz & Heidi Boncher. Congrats to all trophy winners and a big thank you to Candy Mesner & Lori Toffler for all their help and support in making this event so spectacular.

Our SPBCWTA ladies’ teams have enjoyed another great season and will finish up league competition in early May. Our Division 5 team currently sits in 1st place so hopefully we can finish strong and win back to back titles for the first time ever! Our Men’s Division 2 team, led by fearless captain George Meireles, is also battling hard for a league title! Way to go St. Andrews!

Some exciting upcoming events that you don’t want to miss include our Spring Tennis Event & Luncheon (Saturday, April 21) and our Parent - Child Event (Friday, April 27). Please sign up at your earliest convenience so you can participate in these great events.

In closing, I would like to thank our outgoing Tennis Chairperson Wendy Kohansky, for all her hard work, dedication, support and tireless effort over these last six years in helping make our tennis program the Best of the Best! Thank you Wendy!

See you on the courts!

Maureen Buchbinder Nutrition Educator

THE BENEFITS OF SHAKES

Smoothies require very little digestion, so all its nutritional goodness gets rapidly into your system. When you make smoothies, you use way more vegetables than you could actually eat at one time. As a result, you are drinking a HUGE quantity of vitamins, minerals, and other plant-based nutrients that would be impossible to get otherwise. When we drink our vegetables, the situation is entirely different, as these micronutrients are digested and assimilated within 10 to 15 minutes after we drink them, and they are used almost entirely in the nourishment and regeneration of the cells and tissues, glands and organs of the body. All vegetables are alkalizing, and the benefits of maintaining alkalinity in the body is crucial.

TO BUILD YOUR SMOOTHIE: Make sure you have protein, fats, carbs, & liquid.

Lean Protein: Pure pea protein powders are my favorites. Yogurt is another great protein choice.

Healthy Fats: 1 tbsp. of almonds/walnuts/seeds (all unsalted), 1/8 of an avocado, 1 tsp of flax oil.

High Fiber Carbs: Fruits can be ½ banana, berries or ½ apple. Veggies can be spinach, kale, 1/2 celery stalk and ½ mini cucumber.

Liquid Base: can be water, almond milk unsweetened or ½ almond milk.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE, TRY GREEN SHAKES:

One great way to increase your daily consumption of fresh veggies and ensure you meet your daily produce quota. Freshly made juices are concentrated nutritional elixirs that heal and rejuvenate the body and help bring balance to all the body cells. Try some of these green shakes:

Start off with ice, water, cucumber, & celery then add:

parsley, cilantro & carrot OR

spinach, kale & beet OR

romaine lettuce, tomato, garlic, parsley, & lemon OR

romaine lettuce, bell pepper, garlic, parsley, & lemon OR

romaine lettuce, parsley, & lemon OR

lettuce, zucchini, garlic, dill & lime OR

kale, spinach, lemon & carrot.
