Hundreds of people from all walks of life participated in his funeral procession. Dr Jalal was critically injured in an attack by some unidentified gunmen in Pam- pore last month. His two PSOs were killed in the incident. Dr Jalal was shifted from SKIMS Soura to AIIMS New Delhi where he breathed his last on Saturday. Dr Jalal’s body was flown from New Delhi to Srinagar, Hundreds of people including mainstream lead- ers and separatists participate in his funeral procession which started from his Tulsibagh house and culmi- nated at his native Pampore town in south Kashmir. Chairman of Jammu and Kash- mir Liberation Front, senior Nation- al Conference leader Nasir Aslam Wani, Tehreek-i-Hurriyat spokesper- son Dr G.M.Ganai and MLA Pampore Zahoor Ahmed Mir, Grand Mufti of Kashmir Bashir-ud-Din, general sec- retary of Congress Ghulam Nabi Mir Lasjan participated in his Nimaz-e- Jinaza. In a statement a defence spokes- man said Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, Chinar Corps Commander, and all ranks of Chinar Corps expressed heartfelt condolence over the demise of Dr Jalal. “His death is a great loss to the society in general and to the poor people of the Valley in particu- lar for whom he was like a Messiah,” the statement said. Provincial President of National Conference Nasir Aslam Wani and Political Secretary to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tanvir Sadiq, have expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Dr Jalal. Extending sympathies with the bereaved family, they prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. “The state has lost a great doctor who was an asset to the society. Dr Jalal will always be remembered as one of the best cardiologists of our state. He was a humble and a thorough gentle- man. It’s not only a loss for his family or well-wishers but for everyone” they said. Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmad Khan has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise of Dr. Jalal. It was due to his efforts that SKIMS succeeded in providing the latest medicare to the patients,” he added expressing solidarity and sym- pathy with the bereaved family. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Muhammad Khursheed Aalam has condoled Dr Jalal’s demise terming it as a loss to the society in general and to doctor fra- ternity in particular. In his condo- lence message, Aalam has expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. Tangmarg civil society aghast over immorality in tourist places AHMAD KA SHMIRI Tangmarg, Aug 18: Civil Soci- ety of Tangmarg on Sunday urged the authorities to take measures for preventing immoral activi- ties in various tourist places including Gulmarg, Tangmarg and Drang here. The civil society comprising of senior citizens of the area conducted two meetings at Kunzar and Tangmarg respec- tively. Hundreds of citizens belonging to various sections of the society participated in these meetings. On the occasion, the speakers decried increasing immorality in society in general and at tourist places in particular. They demanded a stern vigil of controlling agencies at the tourist places to curb the immorality. They participants demand- ed establishing of an Islamic col- lege out of the income of Shrine of Baba Payam Ud Reshi (RA). The society also demanded that the waters of Nallah Ferozpo- ra be preserved to safeguard the drinking water and irrigation in the area. It also demanded that a traffic control unit be established in the area to control the frequent traffic accidents. The society also expressed concern over the illegal constructions in Gulmarg and demanded that the locals be given concession in the Gondola lift fares. In a statement a spokesman of JKYF said Director State Rehabilitation Council Hafiza Muzaffar distributed cheques among HESP beneficiaries. The beneficiaries include 31 HESP 2013 selectees. Each scholar was given a cheque of Rs 2500. On the occasion, Hafiza Muzaffar impressed upon the participants to focus primar- ily on their studies to achieve better career goals. She asked them to work hard for achieving excellence in their studies. An Islamic scholar Mubee- na Ramzan, delivered a lecture on moral value education and enjoined upon the participants to understand their role and responsibilities to live happy, prosperous, peaceful family and social life.
