From Family / Sonu 004 POLL BOYCOTT CAMPAIGN Yasin Malik injured, arrested in Palhalan Successive regimes neglected Gujjars, Paharis: S D Bajad Dr Ali Baksh passes away Srinagar, Apr 5: Dr Ali Baksh, former Director General of Health Services Kashmir, elder brother of Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Minister of Health and Medical Educa- tion passed away Saturday afternoon in Jammu of mas- sive heart attack. According to family, he complained of chest pain and was shifted to hospital, where all efforts to save him failed. His body is being shifted to Srinagar, and Nimaz-e-Jinazah and burial will take place around noon on Sunday. He is survived by his daughter, a doctor in Saudi Arabia. His wife and son have predeceased him. Son of Late Brigadier Khuda Baksh, Dr Ali was known for his polite nature. Srinagar, Apr 5: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman, Muham- mad Yasin Malik, along with other Front leaders and activists, was on Satur- day injured in police action and later arrested near Pal- halan while he was on his way to Baramulla in north Kashmir to address a public meeting on election boycott campaign. “Yasin Malik and others were intercepted by Police, SOG, RR and CRPF personnel near Palhalan. The forces attacked the Front cara- van with canes and sticks injuring more than a dozen persons including him. Malik along with Mushtaq Ajmal, Shameem Hussein, Shahid Makaya, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Muhammad Habibullah, and Yasir Maqbool was then arrested and shifted to some unknown place”, said a Front spokesman in a statement. “Several JKLF activ- ists and leaders have been injured in police action and many of them have been rushed to the hos- pital. Besides Malik, the injured included Imtiyaz Ahmad, Showkat Ahmad Dar, Ashfaq Hussain, Salman Ahmad, Muham- mad Irfan Khan, Shahid Makaya, Arshid Ahmad, Owaise Ahmad Khan, Aadil Ahmad and Muham- mad Haroon,” said the spokesman, adding that “Police also damaged sev- eral vehicles that were part of the caravan. Before the arrests, Malik, along with others, started his journey towards Baramulla early this morn- ing from Srinagar. Police had laid siege and barricades on the roads leading to Baram- ulla. “To avoid arrest, Malik and others took the route of Soibugh, Sanoor, Wadwan and Magam and reached Palhalan, Pattan, where the caravan was stopped and assaulted”, the spokesman said. "As the news of assault on and arrest of Yasin Malik and others reached Baramulla, people in large numbers came out on streets and protested against the arrest. The people including a number of youth marched from Tawheed Ganj raising slogans in favor of Azadi, Yasin Malik, resistance, martyrs and against elec- tions, oppression and arrests and reached Bus Stand where they were addressed by JKLF leaders: Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Mir Siraj-ud-Din Davood, Prof Javed and Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri”, the spokesman said. Condemning the assault and arrests, the leaders urged the people to stay away from elections as these, according to Front statement, were just a tool to oppress people of Kashmir. Srinagar, Apr 5: Peoples Conference nominee from north Kashmir’s Baramul- la parliamentary segment, Salamuddin Bajad Satur- day lashed out at succes- sive regimes of the State for neglecting the areas inhab- ited by Gujjars and Paharis. “The successive governments have paid no attention to the upliftment of these neglected segments of society and they con- tinue to live a miserable life,” Bajad said while addressing series of meetings in dif- ferent areas of the constituency. He said the discrimination has to end and the Gujjars and Paharis need to be pro- vided the opportunities to grow and prosper. Bajad said the Gujjars and Paharis were intrinsic elements of Kashmiri cultural diver- sity and economy, but it was deplorable that these sections of the society were deprived of development and employment opportunities. Reiterating his party’s aspiration for change, equality and empowerment, Bajad said, “We will take all Kashmiri segments of society hand in hand without any discrimination towards any segment and embark upon a journey of empower- ment on the basis of equality and driven by change.” Meanwhile, party senior leader Khur- sheed Ahmad Khan held several meetings in different areas of Rafiabad over past few days. Srinagar, Apr 5: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman, Muham-mad Yasin Malik, along with other Front leaders and activists, was on Satur-day injured in police action and later arrested near Pal-halan while he was on his way to Baramulla in north Kashmir to address a public meeting on election boycott campaign. “Yasin Malik and others were intercepted by Police, SOG, RR and CRPF personnel near Palhalan. The forces attacked the Front cara-van with canes and sticks injuring more than a dozen persons including him. Malik along with Mushtaq Ajmal, Shameem Hussein, Shahid Makaya, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Muhammad Habibullah, and Yasir Maqbool was then arrested and shifted to some unknown place”, said a Front spokesman in a statement. “Several JKLF activ-ists and leaders have been injured in police action and many of them have been rushed to the hos-pital. Besides Malik, the injured included Imtiyaz Ahmad, Showkat Ahmad Dar, Ashfaq Hussain, Salman Ahmad, Muham-mad Irfan Khan, Shahid Makaya, Arshid Ahmad,

Owaise Ahmad Khan, Aadil Ahmad and Muham-mad Haroon,” said the spokesman, adding that “Police also damaged sev-eral vehicles that were part of the caravan. Before the arrests, Malik, along with others, started his journey towards Baramulla early this morn-ing from Srinagar. Police had laid siege and barricades on the roads leading to Baram-ulla. “To avoid arrest, Malik and others took the route of Soibugh, Sanoor, Wadwan and Magam and reached Palhalan, Pattan, where the caravan was stopped and assaulted”, the spokesman said. "As the news of assault on and arrest of Yasin Malik and others reached Baramulla, people in

large numbers came out on streets and protested against the arrest. The people including a number of youth marched from Tawheed Ganj raising slogans in favor of Azadi, Yasin Malik, resistance, martyrs and against elec-tions, oppression and arrests and reached Bus Stand where they were addressed by JKLF leaders: Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Mir Siraj-ud-Din Davood, Prof Javed and Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri”, the spokesman said. C o n d e m n i n g t h e assault and arrests, the leaders urged the people to stay away from elections as these, according to Front statement, were just a tool to oppress people of Kashmir.

ited by Gujjars and Paharis. “The successive governments have paid no attention to the upliftment of these neglected segments of society and they con-tinue to live a miserable life,” Bajad said while addressing series of meetings in dif-ferent areas of the constituency. He said the discrimination has to end and the Gujjars and Paharis need to be pro-

vided the opportunities to grow and prosper. Bajad said the Gujjars and Paharis were intrinsic elements of Kashmiri cultural diver-sity and economy, but it was deplorable that these sections of the society were deprived of development and employment opportunities. Reiterating his party’s aspiration for change, equality and empowerment, Bajad said, “We will take all Kashmiri segments of society hand in hand without any discrimination towards any segment and embark upon a journey of empower-ment on the basis of equality and driven by change.” Meanwhile, party senior leader Khur-sheed Ahmad Khan held several meetings in different areas of Rafiabad over past few days.
