OUR INSTITUTION – AT A GLANCE

O U R C O L L E G E : A T A G L A N C E -

In the year 1932 with a motto-―Tamaso Ma Jotirgamaya” Shri Shivaji Education Society

was founded in order to provide access to Higher Education to the common people in the

neighbourhood, living in different strata of the society for their educational upliftment.

Dr. Panjabrao alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh with his hard work and dedication established

this Society. Shri Shivaji Arts College, the first College of the Society was started in 1946.

In the year 1947 Commerce discipline was started. In 1956 in the Commerce Post Graduate

courses were started. The effect of the continuous growth and progress of the institution is

seen with the institutions endeavour to start post graduate education in Arts section in the

subjects Economics, Political Science, English, Home Economic and Geography. In 2001-

2002 the institution received permission to start Mass Communication Centre with UG &

PG courses in B. A. (J.M.C.) & M. A. (J.M.C.). B.Voc –Photography & Videography. In

Commerce & Management Section we have B.Com & M.Com in English medium. In Arts

Section there is M.Phil. Economics & in Commerce & Management there is M.Phil.

Commerce which now also are regularly run by the college.

During the academic session 2018-2019 SGBAU, Amravati has approved 09 Ph.D. Research

Centres in the institution with recognition of 16 Ph.D. supervisors till date. Every year the

UG & PG students in the institution are in the Merit list of SGBAU, Amravati.

The activities of NSS & NCC are also regularly conducted by the institution. The students

from the department of Spots and Games participate at University, Interuniversity, and

National & International Level and bring Laurels to the institution. The institution is also

providing opportunities to its students to take part in Yuvak Mohatsav and Cultural

activities. Dr. Panjabrao alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh Library is spacious and has a good

stock of books, specially the rare ones. There is a Braille Library for the Blind Students.

The institution has completed its third cycle of Accreditation and is Reaccredited with ‘A’

Grade by NAAC (CGPA-3.08). The institution is also recognition under UGC - 2F 12B and

receives financial grants from UGC.

The institution which was started pre independence is on its course of journey towards

Excellence in Higher Education with the guidance of the Management, Shri Shivaji

Education Society, Amravati & the hard work of our enthusiastic teaching and

non-teaching staff.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTION FOR THE STUDENTS

******************** 1. At the time of Admission, students should pay the required fee. The student who is

eligible for Fee Concession must apply in specified format within the prescribed

date with all necessary documents in the office of the College. The student should

take the receipt of the applied form from the clerk and keep it with him carefully.

2. Student should submit his/her admission form attached with two recent photos and

with required information in the office by self or by his/her parents.

3. If the student has some problem regarding the admission, he should firstly contact

with the Superintendent and then the Principle, through proper channel to solve

his/her problem.

4. If the student remains absent without any prior information, he has to pay fine.

75% attendance is compulsory, remaining absent will deny to attempt for the

examination.

5. As per the Rules and Regulation of the University and the Secondary Board,

student will not get admission after the last date of admission.

6. Two or Three lists will be displayed on the Notice Board as per the enrolment

capacity of the College. Student should admit himself/herself before the due date.

No reason will be taken into consideration for delay.

7. College Uniform is compulsory for the student of Degree and Post Graduate Degree

Courses.

8. Admitted students can opt for N.C.C., N.S.S and Sports& Games. They will get 10

incentive marks in the University Examination. Detail information regarding will

be made available in the Respective Departments.

9. All the Rules and Ordinances of the University and Board are prescribed in the

Prospectus. Additional information will be displayed on the Notice Board.

10. The student who will get provisional admission should submit essential documents

to the office and finalise his/her admission. Otherwise admission will be Cancelled.

11. The College has formulated some rules regarding to sports fee and E.C.A, student

should follow them.

12. It is Mandatory for all the students to follow the Rules and Regulations laid by the

concerned University.

13. While taking admission, students are required to go through the Fee Structure. The

students of Vocational Courses may contact to the office for the Fee Structure.

14. It is compulsory for every enrolled student to remain present in the programme

organised by the College.

15. Students can participate in the Games and Sport made available in the College.


16. Students must go through the notices which are published on the notice board,

library notice board and board in the shed and follow it accordingly.

17. Students should submit Examination Form of Board and University in the office

and keep the receipt of the submission with them.

18. E.B.C. documents should be submitted at the time of admission or after the

admission immediately.

19. Students should remain present at the time of Physical Test/Medical Test otherwise

Rs.100/- fine will be charged.

20. Students are advised to keep themselves aware of the various facilities which they

will get from time to time and which are not prescribed in the Prospectus.

21. Strict Disciplinary Action will be taken for keeping/chewing tobacco,

keeping/drinking alcoholic drink or other addictive things.

22. It is Punishable Offence to speak nonsense, rude behaviour with Girls, Teachers

and Office Staff in the College.

23. College will not permit any type of tour except Geography, BJMC and organised

by the College (Educational Tour/Industrial Tour)

24. All the rights regarding College Gathering are reserved with the Principal.

25. Keep your Cell Phone on Silent Mode or switch it off in the College Campus.

26. Prize Distribution Ceremony for Meritorious Students will be held on the 15 th of

August after the Flag Hoisting Ceremony.

27. On the 15 th August, prizes will be distributed to the student who secured Special

Achievement in Sports, NCC and NSS.

28. After completion of an academic year, if the student delays to take T.C., he/she has

to pay late fee.

29. If the NCC student cancels his admission, he/she will have to return his/her

Uniform and other things in the department otherwise he/she has to pay fine or

he/she will not get TC.

30. The student will receive TC three days after the submission of application.

31. The student should come during office hours for getting any documents.

32. The student will have to pay full fee if he fails to summit scholarship form.

33. For the purpose of Admission the student will have to attach three photocopies of

each document along with the form.TC/Mark sheet/ Aadhar card/Caste Certificate.

34. The student coming from other University will have to submit Migration

Certificate within the due date.


IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE STUDENTS

1. Students should always be in contact with the teachers to get new information

regarding the changes in Syllabus, Subject, and Paper Pattern in accordance to the

Ordinance of University.

2. As per the Ordinance of Amravati University, Semester Pattern is implemented for

B. A, B. Com, M. A & M. Com. B. A. (J.M.C) / M.A. (J.M.C) / B.VOC. Students are

informed to go through the Syllabus regarding Evaluation System, Curriculum etc.

The syllabus is available in the University Store, Co-operative Store and authorised

book depot. Students have to follow the changes in the syllabus.

3. Practise exam is compulsory for M.A.I & II for English, Economics, Political

Science, Geography and Home-Economics. Rs 50/- fine will be charged to the

student who remain absent in the exam. The students who secured below 15 marks,

they will have to pay Rs 20/-.

4. Annual examination and home work is compulsory for the students of Degree

College. Fine will be charged for absent students.

5. Second copy of Identity Card will be issued after the payment Rs. 100/- and

submission of declaration.

6. Students should compulsorily submit all the details of the courses as Dissertation,

Project Reports, Survey Report, Seminar, Visit Report, before the due date of

submission. After the due date, they will have to pay fine. College will not be held

responsible for it.

7. Uniform and Identity Card are compulsory for all the students admitted in the

college. Otherwise they will have to pay fine.

8. Full fee will be charge to the student who doesn’t submit any form of concession.

9. As per the guidelines of University, probably online admission will start this year.

Students and parents should keep themselves well informed about it. If college gets

new information regarding it, it will display on notice board.

10. Photocopy of Aadhar card should be attached with the application and student

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO THE STUDENTS

********************

1. Tuition Fee:-As soon as the student receives admission he/she will have to immediately

pay the first instalment of the tuition fee and full fee of the hostel. He will have to pay

monthly fee on or before the 25 of every month. The student whose parents’ income is

more than the limit given by the Govt and University, he will have to pay late fee of

Rs.5/- per day if he doesn’t pay the fee on time. Every student will have to keep the

receipt of the fee secured with him. He must put his signature on the receipt.

2. I-Card:-It is mandatory to have an I-Card if the student seeks admission in the

institution. The student will receive the I-Card from the institution after the payment

of Rs. 30/-at the college fee collection counter. The student should wear the I-Card in

his neck within the college campus

3. Readmission after the Cancellation of Admission:- If the student fails to pay the fee

within one month/stipulated period his admission will stand cancelled. If he wants to

have re-admission he will have to pay all the fee and Rs. 50/ again.

4. If the student leaves the college in the middle of the academic year, the college has the

right to recover the entire fee.

5. The students appearing for the university examination shall have to pay the

remaining fee in one instalment. This instalment is to be paid by 15 December. The

examination form will not be accepted unless the entire fee is paid.

6. If the students damage the college furniture etc. the recovery equivalent to the

damage will be made by the college.

7. Physical Education Classes:--It is mandatory for all the undergraduate students to

remain present for the physical education classes as per the rules of the University.

--All the students will have to undergo Physical Efficiency Test once a year. The

students who do not appear for the Test will have to pay fine of Rs. 100/-

--The students can take admission in the college Gym on the payment of the

prescribed Fee.

8. N.C.C.–National Cadet Corps: - The physically fit undergraduate students can opt for

NCC. They can apply in the prescribed form to the local NCC officer through the

Principal .The forms are available in the office. The students having less than 75%

attendance will not be eligible for NCC examination. Moreover they have to attend 10

days annual camp. The NCC officer in the college will provide information about the

concession that can be given to the NCC students. The information will also be

displayed on the college notice board. The university has made provision of 10 marks

as an incentive to the students seeking admission in NCC.

9. National Service Scheme (NSS):- The senior college students are given admission in

the National Service Scheme. They should apply to the NSS officer in the prescribed

form before 15 July. It is mandatory for them to attend all the programs organized by

NSS. The university has made provision of 10 marks as an incentive to the students

seeking admission in NSS. This is a platform where the students’ artistic qualities are

nurtured. Sant Gadgebaba Amravati University, Amravati has sanctioned a unit of

200 boys and girls to the college.


10. Attendance:-75% attendance in each subject is compulsory for the students. The

students whose attendance is less than 75% will not be allowed to appear for the

university/ board examination. Less attendance will affect E.B.C concession and if the

attendance is less in a particular month, the student has to pay entire fee for that

month. Otherwise, he will not be allowed to fill in the university/ board examination

forms. This rule is also applicable to 11 and 12 class students. The students have to

submit the prescribed form in the office stating the number of lectures taken by the

respective teachers and the number of lectures attended by them. They have to submit

these forms after every three months. The college will recover the entire fee from the

students who fail to submit these forms within four days after the expiry of the month

of August, November and February. The students have to submit the certificate of

75% attendance from the concerned teachers to the office before filling the

examination form.

11. Dr. Panjabrao alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh Library: -The College has enriched library

with more than 55,000 books, and national magazines and newspapers. The entire

working of the library has been computerized and the students, teachers and

researchers can access the information regarding the library from the website

192.168.1. 15/ Web OPAC. ---The reference books and magazines required for MPSC,

UPSC, NET, SET and other competitive examinations are available in the library.

---The library has internet facility with12 Mbps and the students can avail the

internet facility in the Network Resource Centre free of cost. ---The library provides

world acclaimed research publications, 6 lacs E-books, and 6 thousand E-journals of

the research publications through INFIBNET-N-list Consortia program. The students

should get their username and password from the library.

---Each student should have his/her email address. It is necessary to enter his/her

name in the National Digital Library. The students can get the useful material and

video tutorials useful for their syllabus and the competitive examinations.. The library

has its own website and important academic information and notices are available

therein. The students should make use of this facility. The website is:

www. shivajicollege.org. The library time is 09 am to 06 pm.

12. Games and Sports: - The College encourages the students to play various games like

Handball, Wrestling, Archery, Cricket, Football, Kabbddi, Volley ball, Kho-Kho,

Badminton, Basketball, Weight Lifting, Soft Ball, Athletics and Cross Country. The

college sports teams exhibiting excellent performance in various games are rewarded

with shields, cups and other prizes.

13. Extracurricular Activities:-The students are given opportunities for various

extracurricular activities so that they can develop their inherent talent. The college

takes efforts to encourage the students’ talent through various activities such as

Literary Associations, Study groups of various subjects, Planning Forum, NSS, NCC,

Annual College Magazine (Shivvani), Youth Festival, Lalit Kala Mandal, Singing

Competitions etc. The students are given ample scope for participation in these fields.

The rules regarding these activities are available in the college and the students

should abide by them.


14. Career and Counselling Cell:-The Career and Counselling Cell of the college organize

various programs through the Students’ Welfare Cell of the University.

15. Hostel:-The College provides separate hostel facility for the boys and girls students of

the college. The hostel (girls’) has the facilities of chairs, cots, hot and cold water etc.

The admission capacity of the girls’ hostel is 120 and that of the boys’ hostel is 60

16. Discipline: - It is mandatory for the students to abide by the rules made by the college.

The students should behave properly in the college and college premises.

For the admission to undergraduate classes, 30% seats under each category are

reserved for girls. Therefore 52% seats are reserved in all. The reservation policy will

be followed for the admissions to undergraduate and post graduate courses as per the

government orders issued from time to time.

18. Students’ Consumer Cooperative Store:-The cooperative store has been established in

the college for providing educational material to the students at cheap rate. Each

student has to pay share of Rs 11/- along with the membership fee of Rs 2/- in all

Rs.13/- at the time of admission. All educational material is available in the store.

19. Each student has to participate in the Group Insurance Scheme and pay requisite

premium amount at the time of admission.

20. There is a vehicle stand in the college. The students have to pay annual fee of Rs. 55/-

and they should keep their vehicles in the vehicle stand.

----------- N A A C - S T U D E N T C H A R T E R --------- Student Charter Every stakeholder of higher education has a role to play for quality

enhancement and sustenance. The stakeholders such as the Government, management,

teachers, students and the external quality assurance agencies—have an important role in

ensuring quality of higher education. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council

(NAAC) strives to play a catalytic role in synergising the stakeholders efforts. Of all the

stakeholders mentioned above, the students have a unique role to play in ensuring quality of

higher education institutions (HEIs). Firstly, the students should realize that they have the

right for quality education and it is the responsibility of the HEIs to provide quality

educational experience to learners. Secondly, the students should equally be aware of their

responsibilities which in turn will help the institutions to provide quality education. This

means that the students should demand quality education and demonstrate their commitment

to quality education by accepting their responsibilities. Otherwise the HEIs will have very

little motivation for quality enhancement. An initiation has been made by the National

Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in this direction by developing a sample

student charter for all higher education institutions. It is hoped that the charter will help

educational institutions to articulate their obligations to learners in clear terms and can be

used as a benchmark for institution’s accountability to learners. The NAAC advocates the

public display of student charter in every institution as an act of promotion of student

participation in Quality Assurance. A) Institution’s responsibilities towards students. The institution shall --

communicate its goals and objectives systematically and clearly to all students offer

programmes that are consistent with its goals and objectives

offer a wide range of programmes with adequate academic flexibility

obtain feedback from students on the initiation, review and redesign of programmes if

and when necessary

facilitate effective running of the teaching-learning programmes

implement a well-conceived plan for monitoring student progress continuously

ensure that the student assessment mechanism is reliable and valid

provide clear information to students about admission and completion requirements

for all programmes, the fee structure and refund policies, financial aid and student

support services

ensure sufficient and well-run support services to all students promote healthy

practices

B) Student’s responsibilities of learning. The student shall--

appreciate the institutional goals and objectives and contribute to the realisation of the

same by participating in relevant institutional activities

have a clear knowledge of the programmes, admission policies, rules and regulations of

the institution

follow the time schedules, rules and regulations of the institution

undertake regular and intense study of learning materials

make optimum use of the learning resources and other support services available in the

institution

prepare for continuous internal assessment and term-end examinations

give feedback for system improvement

have faith and ability to pursue lifelong learning

live as worthy alumni of the institution
