Mass Intentions For the Week

Pastor’s Corner

D ear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This coming Sunday Fr. Ricardo (who was our Associate Pastor from July 2009 to July 2012) is celebrating his 50th

birthday. I am planning to hire a marching band to serenade him at his rectory. I also plan to have a 21 gun salute at the exact time of the day he was born (I hope it was not between 10pm and 8am or else the neighbors will be awakened with a start). I will hire a small plane to fly a big sign saying “Congratulations on your 50th birthday Fr. Ricardo”. And finally, I will remember him in my masses next weekend. In truth I will only do the last of this list of possible actions… hahahaha. In our lives we have special occasions to celebrate and remember – these are wrapped up in the events that make up or lives. We celebrate important events like weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, baptismal dates, deaths of loved ones, births of children and grandchildren, the first time people met the great Fr. Liborio (just joking… this is more of a night-mare for people I am sure… hahaha). As we celebrate “Ordinary Time” (where the liturgical colour we use is green), we can think that these Sundays are not special occasions to raise our spirits as we do in the seasons of Christmas and Easter. If we think this way then we have missed the point of “Ordinary Time”. We can use the analogy of a lasting marriage to give light to what our Liturgical season of Ordinary Time is all about. A marriage is made of thousands of “married days” and each day is unique and special. Each married day gives weight and meaning to the anniversary – because without the living out of each married day the anniversary would not be possible. When a couple celebrates 25 or 50 years of marriage they know that these occasions are opportunities to recognize the thousands of days that make up these anniversaries. In the same way, our liturgical Season of Ordinary Time is an opportunity for us to appreciate the weekly Sunday Eucharist – for it is in celebrating these Ordinary Sundays that we get to appreciate the full impact of such Seasons as Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. I wish you all a happy “Ordinary Time”. Fr. Liborio

27th Annual Lift Jesus Higher Rally Saturday, March 2nd, 2019, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm at the Metro Toronto Convenon Centre, 255 Front St. W. The theme of this year’s rally is “Hope In The Midst of Suffering”. Speakers include Ralph Marn, Sr. Ann

Shields and guest speaker Fr. Mark Goring. The adult high mass will be celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Thomas Collins. There will be a separate youth event (13-18 years) with great music, dynamic talks and inspiraonal skits. The youth mass will be celebrated by Fr. Mark Goring. Tickets: $25 for adults and $15 for the youth. More info at www.li-jesus-higher-rally.ca (647) 243-9441 or (905) 270-2510 or contact@li-jesus-higher-rally.ca or write to Catholic Renewal Ministries, 84008 Wellandport Road, Wellandport ON L0R 2J0.

February 10, 2019, St. Clare of Assisi Parish 150 St. Francis Ave., Woodbridge– 4 p.m. Cardinal Thomas Collins will preside at a special Mass to honour couples celebrang milestone 25th, 40th, 50th or 60+ wedding anniversary in 2019. If you (or a couple you know) are celebrang, you are invited to join in this special celebraon. A recepon will follow Mass. All are welcome to aend – couples celebrang milestone anniversaries are asked to register online or by phone to ensure reserved seang. www.archtoronto.org/marriage or by calling 416-934-3400, ext. 523.
