From the Pastor’s Desk
Deacon’s Corner
Grace Good Shepherd is a “family church” in many ways. As a
small congregation, it is defined that way by its sheer numbers;
historically, long-time members would say it has always been a
family church because of its close relationships. The Deacons
want to be more intentional about their mission and ministry of
compassion by implementing “flocks” within our congregation.
Simply put, our Deacons have divided up our “family”—
members as well as friends—into flocks, with each Deacon
responsible for keeping abreast with the needs and concerns of
their particular flock. In this way, if there are emergency needs
or health issues that need immediate attention by the pastors or
others in our congregation, there is a Deacon in charge of being
the liaison. Soon, we will have a list flocks and which Deacon is
its “shepherd” for distribution. This will make it easier to
communicate—one phone call instead of many, and ensuring
that nobody in our family has a need or concern that goes
unnoticed. There is nothing invasive or set in stone about the
flock system…we will be celebrating joys as well as concerns in
our lives. The Deacons just want to be sure we are all “Good
Shepherds”—enhancing the relationships of our church family in
our busy lives!
