MY ROTARY DAY Adapted from “Beautiful Sunday”

Thursday morning, I’m up and about

I think I’ll take a walk in the park

Hey, hey, hey, it’s a wonderful day

I’ve got someone waiting for me

When I see him I know that he’ll say

Hey, hey, hey, it’s our Rotary day

Hi, hi, hi, wonderful Thursday

This is my, my, my, Rotary day

When you say, say, say, say that you’ll meet me

Oh, hey, hey, hey, it’s our Rotary day

Birds are singing, you by my side

Let’s take a car and go for a ride

Hey, hey, hey, it’s our Rotary day

We’ll drive on and follow the sun

Makin’ Thursday go on and on

Hey, hey, hey, it’s our Rotary day

Hi, hi, hi, wonderful Thursday

This is my, my, my, Rotary day

When you say, say, say, say that you’ll meet me

Oh, hey, hey, hey, it’s our Rotary day

Hi, hi, hi, wonderful Thursday

This is my, my, my, Rotary day

When you say, say, say, say that you’ll meet me

Oh, hey, hey, hey, it’s our Rotary day

Pres. Ogie Lim

Fellow Pasig Rotarians:

At the outset, I would like to thank PDG/RIDN Raffy Garcia for

hosting our happy fellowship last Thursday, May 4 at their huge

and beautiful house in Forbes Park. I would like also to thank the

36 Rotarians and four spouses who joined the fellowship

especially those who brought food and drinks to complement the

Mongolian barbeque. We were not able to muster the 50 attendees

we initially targeted; and so the 36 Rotarians will have to share the

expenses, which we computed to be 700 pesos each. That amount

is trifle compared with our revelry!

Since there was no Tinig last meeting, the FTP in this issue will be

a little longer than usual as I needed to report what transpired in

the last two weeks.

Last Friday, May 5, your Board met at the Valle Verde and

hereunder are the highlights of the said meeting:

1. At the request of PN John, the Board approved the

deferment of the movie screening to the next Rotary Year

to give his committee ample time to prepare and to drum

up enthusiasm for our members.

2. After I had discussed the Rotary-Luxid credit cooperative

and polyclinic undertaking, your Board echoed its support

the Mega Project brokered by PP Conrad Cuesta.

3. There will be a high level meeting among the stakeholders

of the Reintegration Project this week to iron out its

various problems.

4. On May 20, Friday, the Interact Club of RC Pasig will be

presenting their plans and programs at the PLP conference

5. room. We are all invited to attend. The exact time will be

announced later.

6. The last tranche of the stipend giving to our high school

scholars will be today after our meeting.

7. Your Board also agreed to delist with finality Mr. Pol

Garcia after all the available avenues to have him back

failed.

8. You are all invited to attend the District Awards night on

June 26, 2017, Monday at the Blue Leaf Cosmopolitan, C5

Road, Pasig City. Ticket is price at P1,300.00 each.

9. Your Board also agreed to conduct the Strategic Planning

seminar for the next Rotary year on May 19 to May 20 at

the Villa Celine Resort in Bay Laguna. All incoming and

outgoing Board members, officers and advisers are

requested to attend.

Last Thursday, April 27, 2017, PE Jess, PP Conrad, the three

illustrious members of Luxid Foundation, and the General

Manager of our future credit cooperative, and I, went to Rotary

GK Village to inspect the property of PDG Raffy -- the future site

of the RC Pasig Centre.

We were greeted by a welcoming delegation of the officers of the

homeowners association of our GK village. PP Conrad Cuesta

explained to them the objective of the project: to put the 5-6 loan

sharks out of the business, and instead put up a more

comprehensive loan facility that will benefit everyone in the

community.

The initial response of the homeowners’ delegation was

“optimistic” especially when they heard from PP Conrad that there

will be a 20% to 40% rebate on the interest they paid, depending

on whether they religiously paid their dues on time. He also

explained to them the plan of RC Pasig, through the Rafael Garcia

Foundation, to put up a three-storey building that will house a

polyclinic. The clinic aims to serve the less-privileged families in

the area.

We then went to inspect a vacant lot just in front of the GK

Village, which we intend to be the location of a temporary office

that would house the credit cooperative. I am now discussing the

initial design with my technical staff. Hopefully, we can come out

with a design and cost estimate by the middle of this month.

The credit cooperative, per our discussion, will have a Board of

Trustees composed of 20 persons, 10 of which will come from the

Rotary Club of Pasig Inc. and Luxid Foundation Inc. We look

forward to incorporating the credit cooperative at the soonest

possible time.

I am very near the finish line and that the best thing about it is

enjoying the end of the journey. Mabuhay ang RC Pasig!!

Congratulations to baby Rtn. Marlo. He as fined the week before and

was jokingly addressed as misrepresenting himself as a lawyer prior

to his announced passing the bar exams. He was confident he made

the grade. Why? He finished his law degree outside of Metro Manila.

R.I.D.E. and our PDG Raffy Garcia gave us to Thursdays of fun,

fellowship and good food and nice music. One in our Thursday

meeting and the other in his Forbes Mansion. As usual gentle

hostesses were spouse Minda and first daughter Nana, partner of our

very own Director Nick. Good it was in Raffy’s place so Nick was

around.

There were many good things at the fellowship last Thursday. Long

lost Rtn. Manfred showed that he is still dependable not only in golf

tournaments. The Rtn. Kel can attend dinner meetings. That PP Lito

can also attend and even discuss possible fellowship in his pool area.

Even Rtn. Philip was around.

It must be his back problem as PP Sonny would not resist showing up

especially on one who has called him his most reputable supporter,

the very Rock of Raffy. Two Past Presidents, Celso and Tito were

both abroad. Celso is in his usual travelling spree with PPA Enya.

PVP Louie could not reschedule his summer vacation for the entire

family and the entire Kapamilya left same day as fellowship.

If the invitation was sounded off even one week earlier, there would

have been more. Nevertheless, it surpassed all the attendance

percentage since January this year.

Speaker the other Thrusday, in between two Thursday fellowship

hosted by Raffy, is not an ordinary U.P. graduate. Though Victor

Manarang he is in a different ball game than his academic

background, it showed his balanced cedicion making and his success

record. Congratulations to PP Vic for having a knack of getting very

good speakers. Not just any to suit our Thursday requirements.

Our Secretary Edgar, after his major operation gained weight pa. PP

Celso, PPA Enya and their staff assistant Val saw to it that all the

assigned tasks of Edgar are met. After Edgar reported back, Celso &

Enya took a well deserved rest in Japan, thereby missing the

fellowship of Raffy.

If you think PP Conrad is for golf only, you are terribly mistaken. He

is known for giving projects to fellow Rotarians and has a big

concern for the community.

Sayang if you missed out on the Tinig of two week’s ago, or, three?

It featured their MOU with our club and their Luxid Foundation.

Before it broke into print, former Pasig Rotarian and Monetary Board

member Freddie Antonio mentioned of the Joint Venture with our

club and their Foundation with the support of Raffy’s Foundation.

We are to embark on Micro Financing in the building Raffy is

donating, or, at least lending to our club for as long as we need this.

Many financial experts are impressed with the low income group’s

honoring their financial obligations kaya nag thrithrive ang 5-6.

Even Pres. Digong ordered DTI to open a micro financing without

need of legislation. This will be a main highlight of the term of IP

Jess, or, pati building ni PN John Peter pa.

Conrad is a both an incorporator and current director of this Luxid

Foundation. He and Freddie were classmate in U.P. while at A.I.M.,

he used to be conduit of our Rtn. Chony where they were together in

many good undertakings. Chony, aside from his big donation to U.P.

has plenty of donations for better health improvements of our

citizenry. Can Conrad revive a better relationship with Chony, and,

make the term of Jess as good as a good term of POgie, Or, even

better?

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE

John F. Germ

President 2016-17

May 2017

As you read these lines, final preparations

are well underway for our 108th Rotary

International Convention, 10-14 June in

Atlanta. We're looking forward to one of the

biggest and best Rotary conventions yet, as we celebrate not only a

wonderful year of Rotary Serving Humanity, but a full century of

Doing Good in the World through The Rotary Foundation.

If you haven't already made plans to attend, it's not too late to

register at riconvention.org. There is simply no better way to

round off another great year in Rotary than by coming together

with 40,000 or so of your fellow Rotarians to share ideas, find

inspiration, and have a great time together.

We're excited to have Bill Gates, a friend and partner in our work

to eradicate polio, speaking at our convention this year. And it's

worth arriving early to attend a special Presidential Peace

Conference, scheduled for 9-10 June and featuring Bernice A.

King, daughter of Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King.

I'm proud to host a convention that is practically in my own

backyard: Atlanta is a vibrant, modern state capital just a two-hour

drive from my home city of Chattanooga, Tenn., and it's a great

place to experience the famous hospitality of the American South.

Our Host Organization Committee has a great week planned,

starting with the "Blue Jeans and Bluegrass" kickoff event on

Saturday night.

Come on over to Centennial Olympic Park, right across from the

House of Friendship, and get in a dancing mood with Grammy

Award winner Ricky Skaggs and his Kentucky Thunder band.

Meet up with friends old and new at the Centennial Celebration

Block Party or on the Peace Tour of Atlanta. Roll up your sleeves

for the Habitat Home Build, or tie up your laces to take part in the

3K Walk/Run to End Polio Now. And before you say goodbye,

come back to the House of Friendship for one more party: our

Foundation's 100th birthday party, with (of course!) cake and ice

cream.

It's going to be an incredible experience, and Judy and I are

looking forward to celebrating with you – or, as we say in the

South, with y'all! See you in Atlanta!
