Emphasising that IDEF 2017 represents the best oppor-tunity to demonstrate the direction in which the compa-ny is heading, Emin ALPMAN, Chairman of the Board at ROKETSAN, said: “As an organization affiliated with the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, ROKETSAN is an im-portant asset for Turkey. At IDEF 2017, we will proudly dis-play our work and achievements to the President, the Prime Minister, the Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces, the Minister of National Defence, and other high-ranking state officials. At every IDEF event, ROKETSAN showcases its development and progress through new technologies and products. In line with our ROKETSAN 2035 Vision Docu-ment, we are working to carry ROKETSAN to even higher levels. During this process, we aim to advance along our fellows, solution partners and subcontractors. To acquire new business partners from all across Turkey through vari-ous activities, we not only describe our work and ourselves, but also listen to what’s being done by companies that can potentially become our solution partners. In IDEF 2019, we’ll take part with an even larger product family and new achievements and we’ll continue to do more than our best to spread the industrialization to a broader base, especially Anatolia.”ROKETSAN appears before its customers with the successful products it delivered in the past and with technologies whose intellectual property rights entirely belong to the company. It certainly doesn’t present them with solutions that are confined, unchangeable and inflexible. We listen to our cus-tomers to understand their needs, assess their infrastruc-ture, and develop tailor-made solutions for them. Both the Turkish Armed Forces and the countries friendly and allied to Turkey are highly pleased with ROKETSAN’s approach. We are diversifying and improving our solutions in accordance with our customers’ needs. Thanks to these efforts, we will, in the near future, be announcing to the rest of the industry new export projects that will contribute to Turkey’s 2023 tar-gets. I would like to invite all participants at the exhibition to ROKETSAN’s stand, to see the latest innovations in rockets, missiles and munitions.”

ROKETSAN is extending the application areas of its ballistic protection solutions. Having developed, manufactured and

successfully completed the qualification of the armour system for the ALTAY main battle tank, ROKETSAN is now showing up in this field with implementing also the Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) System. ROKETSAN’s ERA system solution:n Provides protection against anti-tank ammunition with the tandem warhead,n Uses ROKETSAN developed insensitive explosives,n Minimises collateral damage,n Makes dismantling and renewal processes easier with its modular design, n Is applicable to various armoured vehicles, andn Does not require maintenance throughout its life cycle.ROKETSAN also provides protection against RPG (rocket propelled grenade) type threats with its light weight RPG Shield System for the vehicles in the inventory of Turkish us-ers and for the KİRPİ vehicles in the inventory of a foreign user. The company’s ballistic protection solutions also include solu-tions for helicopters. ROKETSAN, who develops floor, side and seat armour for helicopters, made its first application to the BLACK HAWK helicopters in the inventory of Turkish Gendar-merie.Furthermore, ROKETSAN’s ballistic protection solutions for military camps are listed as follows:n RZB-20 Armour Block: This is comprised of high strength composite protection panels for the protection of military zones against medium calibre armour piercing (AP) threats.n RZP-10 Fragmentation Shield: This is used to provide protection against mortar threats for the containerized accommodation camps.

n RZK-7 Armour Cage: This maintains protection of military zones against RPG threats.Drawing attention to the fact that ballistic protection systems are critical systems used to protect the lives of military and security staff, Selçuk Yaşar, President and CEO of ROKETSAN, commented on ROKETSAN’s approach regarding this product family as follows: “Ballistic protection systems should be de-veloped as fast as the threats, so that they can keep up with them. The solutions offered by ROKETSAN to its customers have shown how closely the company has been following de-velopments and how fast it has developed solutions. One of our key advantages is that we are also working on rocket and missile systems, the aim of which is to overcome ballistic pro-tection systems. This brings ROKETSAN to a very privileged position and we use all the advantages of this privilege for the benefit of our customers.”

CİRİT, the 2.75” Laser Guided Missile with the longest range in its class, continues to expand its capabilities by

adding a new thermobaric warhead to its warhead options. Accordingly, the number of alternative warheads offered by the company, which previously had two options including the multi purpose warhead with anti-armour, anti-personnel and incendiary functions and the high explosive warhead, has increased to three. The CİRİT’s integration capability with various platforms is also noteworthy. Work is continuing on the integration of the CİRİT, which is already being used on the T129 ATAK and AH-1 COBRA attack helicopters, to the TIGER helicopter. The latest memorandum of understanding signed between ROKETSAN and MBDA Germany during the ILA 2016 was about this integration..While work on the integration of the CİRİT to the BLACK HAWK helicopters is progressing, there is also ongoing work on its integration to light helicopters. The most recent devel-opment in this field was the memorandum of understand-ing, signed during Farnborough 2016 between ROKETSAN and Airbus Helicopters, on the integration of the CİRİT to the H135M and H145M helicopters. While on the one hand, working on the integration of the CİRİT to various unmanned aerial vehicles continues unremitting-ly, on the other, ROKETSAN has shown that the missile can be integrated to land vehicles through the Pedestal Mounted CİRİT (PMC) system and can be used as an effective weapon. ROKETSAN also demonstrates to its customers how the CİRİT is launched from fixed and mobile land systems. A CİRİT mis-sile system, integrated to a towed land platform, was ordered by a customer abroad and is already in use.

The CİRİT, which was previously integrated to the AT-802 border patrol aircraft, will be integrated to the C295W air-craft in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed with Airbus Defence and Space during Farnborough 2016. Meanwhile, work on the launching of the CİRİT from fast patrol boats and corvette sized ships is also ongoing. The missile has been already used on some of these plat-forms during various operations and has also proven itself during combat.Emphasising that the CİRİT is a system that can meet a va-riety of needs unaided, Selçuk Yaşar, President and CEO of ROKETSAN, said “The CİRİT is taking the concept of the ‘2.75” guided rocket’, which emerged from the idea of having a cost-efficient missile, to a much higher level. The CİRİT, which is the leader in its class with a range of 8 km, has also shown that it is capable of carrying out some of the missions of other missiles in higher classes. It is now possible to meet the guided missile needs of land, air and naval forces with a single missile production line. I can confidently say that there is no other missile on the market that can offer such flexibility with these costs.”

ROKETSAN is about to finalize its Long Range Anti-Tank Missile System project UMTAS and its Medium Range

Anti-Tank Missile System project OMTAS, both of which are being developed in line with the requirements of the Turkish Armed Forces. The UMTAS and OMTAS Missiles, which are being developed as a product family, enable ROKETSAN to meet the various requirements of users in today’s battlefield. While the laser guided UMTAS (L-UMTAS) is already in the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces following the comple-tion of the qualification phase, the qualification phase of the UMTAS with an imaging infrared seeker has been completed for the product and production line. In addition, a number of test firings from attack helicopters were successfully com-pleted. Serial production of this version of the UMTAS will start soon and work on the integration of the missile to armored ground vehicles and towed/fixed ground platforms are con-tinuing. Moreover, work is progressing on the integration of

stabilized weapon systems with UMTAS to naval platforms. The product and production line qualification processes of the OMTAS have been completed and it is already in serial production. The contract regarding the Anti-Tank Vehicles project, which covers the use of the OMTAS on vehicles, was signed between the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) and FNSS in 2016.Selçuk YAŞAR, President and CEO of ROKETSAN, states that with UMTAS and OMTAS they have developed a product fam-ily that will serve their users for many years. “The point is, anti-tank missiles are not just about eliminating the ever-de-veloping armor technologies; now you need to be capable of meeting all kinds of emerging threats. In addition to their an-ti-tank capabilities, which are their main mission, the UMTAS and OMTAS were designed to be effective against any other ground or surface threats. We will be witnessing such imple-mentations frequently in the coming period.”

The Smart Micro Munition (MAM-L), developed by ROKETSAN in line with today’s battlefield requirements,

attracts attention as a solution that increases the efficien-cy of air platforms with low payload capacity, especially that of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). MAM-L, a variant of the Laser Guided L-UMTAS (Long Range Anti-Tank Missile Sys-tem) that is also developed by ROKETSAN, the only differ-ence being that it does not have a rocket motor and glides in the air has already been integrated to the BAYRAKTAR and KARAYEL tactical UAVs that are currently being used by the Turkish Armed Forces. The MAM-L, which is being success-fully used in various operations involving UAVs, stands out as a munition that has proved itself in the field. With its low weight of about 50 pounds and a length of 1 m, the MAM-L offers a cost-efficient solution for light attack aircraft as well as UAVs. The MAM-L, with its high explosive fragmentation warhead, is highly effective against light struc-tures, unarmored ground vehicles, radar antennas and soft targets like weapon pits and personnel, in a 25 m radius. The other version with tandem high energy anti-tank warhead is effectively used against heavy armored tanks. The munition can be used efficiently at ranges of up to 8 km, depending on the altitude from which they are released.Meanwhile, the fact that MAM-L is a member of the same family with ROKETSAN’s medium range anti-tank missile OMTAS and long range anti-tank missiles UMTAS/L-UMTAS, offers a signif-icant advantage to its users in terms of training and logistics.ROKETSAN also gained considerable experience in the inte-gration of the MAM-L into air platforms. As long as the air platforms have the required infrastructure, ROKETSAN can operationalize the MAM-L by completing all the related in-tegration works within a few months. In the event of the in-frastructure requiring additional elements, ROKETSAN also offers its customers integration support.Selçuk YAŞAR, President and CEO of ROKETSAN, states that the MAM-L will soon become the preference of many coun-tries: “The design and application concept of the MAM-L pro-vides its users with the capability of effectively neutralizing time critical targets, particularly those that arise during re-connaissance and surveillance missions. Meanwhile, thanks to its precision guidance and small dimensions, the MAM-L offers a solution with a low collateral damage. When com-pared with all the other capabilities of the armed forces, a combination of the MAM-L and a tactical UAV is the most cost effective solution. We believe that soon other countries will also start taking an interest in this solution.”

The HİSAR Air Defence Missile Family, developed to meet the low and medium altitude air defence needs

of the Turkish Armed Forces, continues to successfully pass the intensive development and test phases on the way to final qualification. In this context, the latest test-fire of the medium range HİSAR-O was conducted in De-cember, witnessed by Fikri IŞIK, the Minister of National Defence. Continuing its programmed maneuvers after it was fired and following the firing of its second pulse rocket motor mid-air, the missile completed its flight with 100% success. This test launch marked the first use of the du-al-mode propulsion rocket motor. The HİSAR Air Defence Missile Family, with its common subsystems and common missile interface, is prepar-ing to play a decisive role in this field during the coming period. Selçuk YAŞAR, President and CEO of ROKETSAN, commented on the future position of the HİSAR missiles as follows: “The HİSAR Air Defence Missile Family is be-ing developed to include the latest technology in all its subsystems, particularly in the areas of guidance, fuses, warheads and rocket motors. Accordingly, we will not only be offering efficient air defence solutions to the Turkish Armed Forces, as well as friendly and allied nations, but will also be ensuring the validity of these solutions for many years with the life cycle support to be provided by ROKETSAN. Our customers will be able to procure these missiles without being subject to any export or deployment restrictions and will be able to use them with confidence for their air defence.
