We know how upsetting it can be for students who have forgotten their lunch or lunch money. It is hard to learn if you are hungry. The cafeteria is pleased to offer these students a meal that will provide all the basic nutritional requirements. There is no charge for this meal or service. The meal is a string cheese served with the daily selection of fruit, vegetable, and milk.

WHAT IS THE NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM?
The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a federally assisted meal program operating in more than 96,000 public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to nearly 27 million children each school day. The program was established under the National School Lunch Act, signed by President Harry Truman in 1946. It was initiated as a measure of national security to safeguard the health and well-being of the nation’s children. In signing the 1946 Act, President Harry S. Truman said, “Nothing is more important in our national life than the welfare of our children, and proper nourishment comes first in attaining this welfare.”
Free and Reduced Priced Lunches, which are part of the NSLP, are a safeguard against malnutrition for low income families. If you should suddenly become unemployed and have no other income or income below the amount to qualify, you become eligible immediately for free or reduced priced meals by filling out and returning the application. You can get an application for the program any time during the school year --- at your school’s office or on the Simi Valley Unified School District Website, click on the Lunch Menu Box (fork/spoon – says lunch menu) and you can fill an online EZMeal application or print one. The program is set up so that the children cannot be identified by their peers or teachers unless the child tells them. If your child is on the program, please ask them to simply say their name when going through the serving line. Children with full price prepaid meals do the same.
The Food Services Department Director, Patrice Parr along with a staff of 100 employees strive to meet or exceed the meal standards recommended by the Heatlhy Hungry Free Kids Act of 2010. Our menus include fruits, vegetables, whole grain rich products, fat-free and low-fat milk, lower levels of sodium, saturated fat and zero trans-fat in our meals.

A small gift can touch the life of a child
around the world!
Operation Christmas Child touched the lives of more
than 11.2 million hurting children in 2015 and in more than 100 countries since 1993 by distributing gift-filled shoeboxes in crisis areas of the world. Yet there are
millions more hurting children still waiting to receive their shoeboxes! And it all starts with YOU!
HOW TO PACK YOUR SHOEBOX...
1. SHOEBOX
Use an empty shoebox or a small plastic
container. You can wrap the box (lid
separately), but wrapping is not required.
2. BOY OR GIRL
Determine whether your gift will be for a boy
or a girl, and the child’s age category. Use
the appropriate Boy/Girl label provided for
you in this flyer to the right. Mark the correct
age category on the label, and tape the label
to the top of your box.
3. FILL WITH GIFTS, GIFT SUGGESTIONS…
Include items that children will immediately
embrace such as dolls, toy trucks, stuffed
animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump
ropes, balls, toys that light up, school supplies,
hard candy, hygiene items, clothing, etc. Please
DO NOT include toy guns, knives, military
figures, chocolate, perishables, out-of- date
candy, anything liquid, medications, vitamins,
breakable items, glass containers, or aerosol
cans.
4. INCLUDE $7 DONATION
Help cover shipping and other costs related
to delivering your gift box to a child
overseas by donating $7 for each shoebox
you prepare. You can give online and
discover the destination of your shoebox by
using the “Follow Your Box” option through
EZGIVE by visiting our website (see below).
If you or your family are preparing more
than one shoebox, please make one
combined donation.
5. DROP OFF
Place a rubber band around each closed
shoebox and drop off at the Simi Valley
Collection Center located at 4200
Township Avenue (New Heart
Foursquare Church). Nov. 14-18, 4-7
pm; Nov. 19-20, 1-5 pm; Nov. 21,
10am-1 pm. For more info on Drop-Off
locations call (800) 353-5949, or visit our
website www.samaritanspurse.org/occ
