Palisades provides more than 800 megawatts of safe, clean, vital energy to Southwest Michigan. Nuclear energy is a price-stable source and does not fluctuate like natural gas prices or other fossil fuels. Michigan’s four nuclear energy facilities generate over 27 percent of the state’s electricity. Palisades produces enough electricity to power 800,000 homes Palisades provides 600 highly skilled full-time jobs for men and women in the area, plus another 1,200 specialty jobs during refueling outages. Entergy and Palisades employees provide over $325,000 in charitable contributions to community events and non-profit organizations. Palisades Power Plant Independent inspectors from the NRC spend more than 6,000 hours each year reviewing safety performance at Palisades. Since acquiring Palisades in 2007, Entergy has invested $358 million to enhance the safety and reliability of the plant. Additional investments totaling approximately $250 million are planned over the next five years. Like all U.S. nuclear plants, Palisades is regulated by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to Palisades full-time. Palisades pays $11.2 million in annual taxes, making it the largest tax payer in Van Buren County.
