Dear neighbors, Please join us on Tuesday, May 2 for our next regular monthly meeting. We will have special guests with presentations on solar energy in the District and the redevelopment of RFK Stadium. We’ll also have our regular committee reports and police report. The PCA will be holding elections for officer positions at the May meeting. A slate of officers will be presented by the Nominating Committee, and the slate will be circulated on the Palisades electronic mailing list ahead of the meeting. In addition, nominations will be taken from the floor. If you do not receive the Palisades electronic mailing list and would like to know the nominees, please contact Nick Keenan or Anne Ourand. It was a great pleasure to act as the official starter for this year’s Easter egg hunt. I’m happy to report that all of the eggs appear to have been found. Special thanks to Matthias Meuwissen and George Beronio and their band of teenage musicians for providing the music, the girls from Troop 4370 for stuffing and hiding the eggs, and to DPR employee Vincent Larry, Maria Garcia and Mark Orient for organizing. It’s events like this that make our neighborhood such a special place to live. Finally, last month was the birthday of stalwart PCA volunteer Mat Thorpe, who is still going strong at 96. He is a model for us all. I hope to see you on May 2. Sincerely, Nick Keenan PCA President

Eggstraordinary Time Had by All at the Egg Hunt

The children of the Palisades got to experience an eggstra special morning at the Palisades Rec Center on April 8th. The Palisades Citizens Association once again hosted the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Potluck Breakfast. In all, there were over 1500 eggs for the little ones to collect!

The morning started out bright and early (and luckily sunny) with the Girl Scouts hiding the eggs. Neighbors started arriving at 10:00am to decorate Easter bags. PCA President Nick Keenan kicked off the egg hunt promptly at 10:30. Following the egg hunt, there were egg related relays on the field.

Palisades Recreation Center and Library Modernization Projects

At the April 4 General Membership Meeting, the Department of General Services (DSG) and the contractor for these projects updated the community on the status of the Recreation Center Modernization. Work will begin in May to remediate the interior of the existing building, and will be staged to minimize the impact on the community’s annual 4th of July celebration. Actual construction will begin after the 4th with a ground-breaking at some point. Before then DGS and contractor will meet with the community on a date and at a location to be determined to present their plan for construction phase, explaining how this phase will impact usage of the balance of the recreation center’s components,

and steps they will take to minimize the impact of construction on the immediate neighborhood. On the positive side, the Department of Recreation gave the contractor on the project high praise based on his work on other projects, completing work in time and within budget. Several members of the team are also residents of our community. In addition the same contractor will working on both the library and recreation center projects.

Et Voila reopens after renovation and expansion

Lab School Pool On March 21, the Lab School Head of School and President of the Board met with 50 or so community residents who are users of the Lab School pool. The Lab School representatives made the case for converting the school’s pool into a new theater space for the school. After presenting their case they listened for more than an hour as member of the community vigorously argued for keeping the pool as an important and irreplaceable asset to the school and the community. At the end of the meeting both Lab School representatives said that they would go back to the architects working on the theater project and ask them to consider other alternatives for creating a new theater on the campus. To date, the school has given no indication of how the reevaluation is proceeding. .
