Our Lady of Mt Carmel, is served
by the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles – Scalabrinians – .
We are an community of Catholic religious serving migrants and refugees of different
cultures, religions and ethnicities in 32 countries. The Congregation was founded in Italy
on November 28, 1887, by Blessed John Baptist Scalabrini (1839-1905),
bishop of Piacenza (Italy). Our missionary focus is to be migrants
with the migrants and to be in mission with people on the move,
with a special priority for the poorest And neediest migrants. From the Pastor’s Desk IIISUNDAYINORDINARYTIME.ThisSundaymarksthebeginningofthereadingof the thirdGospel, that of Saint Luke, thatwill accompanyusthroughoutthisliturgicalyear.GivingacontinuousandfaithfulreadingofaGospeloffersusarichperspectiveoftheteaching,lifeandmissionofJesus.Ifyouhaveachance,doagifttoyourself,readitallatonce.Theevangelist Luke,whowas not an apostle,mentions his commitment to"havingdiligently investigatedeverything from theorigins"ofwhat Jesushadsaidanddone.Readingand listening to thesepagesallowsus tograsp indepthandbreadth the feelingsofmercy thathavemovedtheLordJesusandthatstilltodaymovetheheartoftheChristiancommunity.ItisJesus,fullofmercy,who speaks to us every timewe open the Gospel pages.We hear in today’s gospel that it isSaturdayand Jesus, "according tohis custom," goes to the synagogue.Foralmost thirtyyearshehadparticipatedinit.Butwhatwasabouttohappenwasneverseenitbefore.ThistimeitisJesushimselfwhocommentsonthepassagefromIsaiahwhereitsays:"TheSpiritoftheLordisuponme,becausehehas anointedme to proclaim the Good News to the poor, has sentme to proclaim the release of thecaptivesandthesight to theblind, togive freedomto theoppressedandproclaimayearof theLord'sgrace. " After reading, everyone has their eyes ixed on him.
