Bulletin deadline is Friday, June 28, for the July 6-7 bul-letin. Please email notices to [email protected] or deliver them to the parish office. (You can receive the bul-letin by email by visiting parishesonline.com/find/our-lady-of-mount-carmel-church-02771 and scrolling down to the “subscribe” button to enter your email address.)

Corpus Christi procession, altars todayToday, Sunday, June 23, there will be a Corpus Christi Eucha-ristic Procession at 2 p.m. The procession will go around to four altars in the parking lot, stopping at each to reflect on the gift of Jesus Christ in Eucharist, singing songs in honor of the Lord, and praying for different intentions. Each altar will be decorated by parishioners and at each altar, one set of prayers we will be for the intentions of that individual, family, or group of people who team up to set up the altar. The procession, concluding with Benediction, usually takes 45 minutes. In case of bad weather, the prayers will take place in the church with the Eucharist Ex-posed and conclude with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Reception for Father Ryan Healy todayFather Ryan Healy, our former deacon, was ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, June 1, at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption in Fall River. He will celebrate the 10:45 a.m. Mass here today, Sunday, June 23. Immediately after, we will have a light reception in the lower church so that parishioners may congratulate him and receive his first blessing. This week Father Ryan will begin his new assignment in Falmouth at three parishes and two chapels that are transitioning to function as one community. He will be with Msgr. Steve Avila at St. Antho-ny’s, St. Patrick’s, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. For the summer, the priests will live at St. Anthony’s until the rectory and parish office at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s are changed over to a rectory (and St. Anthony’s rectory and office will function solely as the office for the three parishes). Please keep him in your prayers as he begins his first assignment as a priest. And if he is nice then maybe we will allow him to come back to visit … maybe.

Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, and Altar Servers: The ministry schedule for Aug. 1 to Dec. 1 is being compiled. Please submit your requests before July 6 to Claire Creamer, [email protected], or write them in the notebook located in the narthex. Server schedules are always online at olmcseekonk.org, under the Liturgy section. Thank you!

This weekend, June 22-23, we will collect for the Church in Lat-in America. For many in Latin America and the Caribbean, a rising secular culture, difficult rural terrain, and a shortage of ministers present obstacles to practicing the faith. Your sup-port provides lay leadership training, catechesis, priestly and religious formation, and other programs to share our faith with those who long to hear the Good News of Christ.

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRISTPastor’s PageThis Sunday we celebrate Corpus Christi Sunday. What a wonderful gift Jesus leaves for us, his very self to nourish us spiritually and physically. Think of those words of Jesus as he prepared to leave the apostles: “I will be with you always, even until the end of the age.” And it is in the Eucharist that we experience in such a humbling way his abiding pres-ence and love.

One very powerful way we experience Jesus in the Eucharist outside of the Mass is through Eucharistic Adoration. It is in this experience that we can sit or kneel before him to open our hearts to him. So many people talk about how much they love the peace they experi-ence in Adoration. We are so blessed here that for almost 20 years (it will be 20 years in January) that we have been able to have Perpetual Adoration here in our St. Joseph’s Chapel. (The entrance is the left side entrance of the church – the chapel is directly across from the bathrooms). This is possible first and foremost because Our Lord remains truly present in the Eucharist until the Eucharist is consumed or dissolves. But this is also only possible because there are so many people in our parish and the surrounding area who are so dedicated to keeping a dedicated time of Adoration every week. Because of this dedication and sacrifice, countless other people throughout the diocese and Providence area are able to come to a church they know is always open for prayer, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I want to thank so many of you who are living that commitment, and remem-ber in prayer so many others who kept that time with the Lord who have since been called by the Lord to be in his eternal glory forever in heaven. Think about this: in 19½ years, there have been approximately 170,820 hours spent adoring the Lord, and at least one per-son was there in our chapel at all times (sometimes you can find 8-10 people in there at one time).

We are not supposed to have the Blessed

Sacrament exposed unless someone is present with the Lord. And this is one of the great challenges we face: making sure we have someone there at all times. Some of our adorers are getting older and finding it difficult to make it every week. For us to be able to continue this beautiful work of the Lord, we do need more adults to commit to particular times in Adoration. Some of us may think we cannot do it because we are so busy, but if that is the case I highly en-courage you to consider looking at your schedule and see where you could per-haps make a shift. For example, I have known some people who have children and work, but they made time once a week in the middle of the night for Adoration and by doing it, they found a deeper peace and strength by giving that time to Christ. (Common sense would say they should be even more tired, but the Lord gave them often a renewal and peace in whatever things they are facing in their lives). For others, may-be you can come during the day with your spouse or friend to spend time in silent prayer (I have known some young adults who committed every evening on a certain weekday and then with their friends go out to dinner afterwards).

As for being at Adoration, some may wonder what they should do. It is rather simple: you pray. Sometimes we might talk to the Lord about our families, friends, work, challenging situations, etc. As we bring our thoughts before him, we try to listen in our hearts to what direction the Lord may stir some awareness about those things. Some people come and in some of their prayer they adore Jesus and tell him how much they love him. Other times some might pray the rosary or other devotions. Sometimes people bring their Bible or a good Catholic book and read for a while and then maybe pray about some of the things they read. I have known some people who, when going to Adoration, will ask family and friends if they have any intentions they need prayed for, so they pray those intentions while there.

Father Kevin CookAnd others, they sometime just sit and try to rest with their heavy hearts in the awareness Jesus is just there and they surrender their difficulty to him (just a child resting in their parents’ arms). As we celebrate this great solemnity, let us pray more about the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and see if the Lord may be asking more of us to loving him present to us.

Please Keep In Your PrayersLast Sunday Jane Sloane passed away. Jane’s funeral will be this Tuesday at 11 a.m. Jane was 60 years old and through-out her life manifested a beautiful inno-cence. Jane was cared for by her parents and her sister Cindy. Please keep Jane and her family in your prayers.

New Permanent Deacon HereWe are very happy that Bishop daCunha has appointed one of the new perma-nent deacons to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Deacon Matthew Sweeney, who is from South Attleboro, begins official-ly his assignment in the beginning of July (but, as you can see, is here for our Masses this weekend). Deacon Sweeney is not married, so he made the prom-ise of celibacy when he was ordained a permanent deacon. (Permanent deacons are usually married, but if they are not, then they take the promise of celibacy. If they are married, if their wife dies before them, they are not allowed to remarry). As you know, we also have Deacon Steve Booth, who is a transi-tional deacon, with us all summer, and then every weekend once he returns to the seminary at the end of August. He will be with us until he is ordained a priest next June.

— Fr. Kevin

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

Give ear to my words, oh Lord; understand my sighing. Psalm 5:2

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus feeds about 5,000 people with “five loves and three fish.” When God gives, he gives more than we need for ourselves, so that we may have something to share with others, especially those in need.May we always trust in God’s provision for us and share freely with others, especially those who lack what they need.

If you know anybody who needs help, contact the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 401-603-8888.

There is no meeting until September, but the Society is active all year long and can be reached at the number above.

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is prayed in the adoration chap-el Monday through Saturday at 3 p.m.

A rosary for priests and all vocations is prayed in the adora-tion chapel every Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

A novena to St. Anne for the protection of children is prayed every Friday at noon in the adoration chapel.

A statue of the Blessed Mother, located in the first confes-sional in the adoration chapel, can be borrowed for one week. Please use the sign-out sheet.

Building a Culture of VocationsEvery month we pray for different vocations to support those who are responding to the Lord’s call. In the month of June, let us pray for Father Ryan Healy as he begins his life as a priest, Deacon Steve Booth as he begins his assignment here, Richard and Linda Pinelle for the gift of the bond of marriage, and Sr. Perpetua for the beautiful vocation to religious life.

A Mission of Mercy and HealingSave the date: On the evenings of July 14-16 we will have a mission at Our Lady of Mount Carmel to prepare for the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The speakers will be Kitty Cleveland, a nationally known, in-spirational Catholic speaker and singer, and Father Chris Alar, MIC. Looking to the example and intercession of Our Lady, we will focus on the message of the need for God’s mercy and healing in our souls, families, parishes, and the Church.

Holy Souls in Purgatory Apostolate One spiritual work of mercy is praying for the souls in pur-gatory. Brothers and sisters in purgatory are those who have died and are judged for heaven, but need purification of venial sins on their souls at the time of their death, or are in need of reparation of sins they were forgiven of in this life. As part of the communion of saints, we assist them in that purification by offering our prayers and sacrifices for them. For those who are interested in participating in an organized way of praying for them, starting Thursday, June 27, at 9 a.m. in the church we will be offering the chance to gather with others to pray partic-ular prayers for the Souls in Purgatory. This effort is called the Holy Souls in Purgatory Apostolate.
