She worked to care for the poor and vulnerable of the city. Her cult was confirmed in the 15th century, but she may be a saint of a much earlier date. (1580-1654) St Peter Claver was born at Verdú in Catalonia, Spain, and entered the Society of Jesus. In 1610 he was sent to Colombia and began his life’s work among the slaves. He cared for them and baptised more than 300,000 during his 33 years of tireless ministry.

A new parish project : message from Fr Tony (due to shortage of space—this is an edited version of last week’s message)

We are all aware of the climate change crisis and the Holy Father’s urgent calls for action, as he writes in Laudato Si we must ‘heed the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor’. We, as a parish community, can and should play our part. A parish Laudato Si Group has been formed to help run a climate project. It has already been in touch with our schools and is organising a parish Climate Sunday Walk on 19th September. Members of the group will be speaking at all Masses on 12th September to tell you more. I urge you all to support his initiative and pray for the success of the UN climate summit in Glasgow this November.

Climate Sunday Creation Walk—a prayerful event for all faiths and none SUNDAY 19 SEPTEMBER commencing 2pm at Bordesley Abbey Car Park walking through Redditch Town, finishing at Mount Carmel Church.

Purpose—to reflect/pray about the climate crisis. Refreshments at Mount Carmel Church. A prayerful event for all faiths and none. Please come and bring your friends.

Right to Life Prayer for the week For all going through difficult pregnancies, we pray for an overwhelming sense of hope and joy to fill their lives, and for increased support to be given by their family, friends and local communities.
