PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE Six‐year‐old Jane and Be y were neighbors and bes es.
One rainy day, they met at Jane’s home, but mama screamed
as they stomped across her newly scrubbed kitchen floor with
their muddy shoes. “Play on the back porch,” she commanded.
As they were running to the back porch, Be y said: “My mom
doesn’t care if we get the floor dirty.” Jane replied: “Gee, I wish
I had a nice, dirty mother like yours!”
Dear Agathians:
Most people welcome the signs of spring: flowers
blooming, leaves sprou ng, birds chirping, the days growing
longer… And, as the temperatures warm up, most people want
to open their windows and doors to let in the fresh air. But all
that light and fresh air o en reveals what they may have not
no ced during the dark, cold days of winter: Their house is a
mess! That’s when the urge for spring cleaning begins.
As we air things out, sweep the corners, scrub the floors,
wash the windows, and toss out old food from the refrigerator,
however, we need to remember that our home isn’t the only
place that needs a deep cleaning. Our soul needs some
declu ering, too. Over me, responsibili es at work,
commitments at church, and unfinished projects at home can
pile up, weigh down and clu er our heart like an
overflowing closet in desperate need of a en on.
Unlike spring cleaning, however, we don’t have to wait
un l the spring to do spiritual cleaning. And it doesn’t
have to be a big, dreadful project, either. The best way to
approach spiritual cleaning is through eyes of children.
First, children are free from possessions. Yes, they
may have a favorite toy for a while, but they can easily
abandon it when they find something be er. How much
be er we will feel when we can likewise abandon the
material possessions that stand in the way of our a aining
more spiritual goods!
Second, children are free from poli cal correctness. They
will say whatever comes to their minds without worrying about
what people may think of them. Our soul will be so much freer
if we stop worrying about other people’s opinion. In our
spiritual life, it’s all between us and God anyway.
Third, children are not afraid of poverty. Children don’t
worry about what they will eat or wear tomorrow. They don’t
need to have saving money in the bank. They are content with
whatever their parents give them each day. Declu ering our
soul from these earthly concerns and we will surely live with so
much more joy and contentment.
Now is as good a me as any me for us to do some deep
spiritual spring cleaning. Let us declu er our soul and live
with child‐like faith, “for the kingdom of heaven belongs to
such as these” (Ma hew 19:14).

PERSPECTIVA del PÁRROCO Juanita y Betty, de seis años, eran vecinas y mejores amigas.
Un día lluvioso, se juntaron en la casa de Juanita, pero la mamá gritó cuando pisotearon el piso de la cocina recién fregado con sus zapatos embarrados de lodo, "Jueguen en el pórtico de atrás", ordenó. Mientras corrían hacia el pórtico de atrás, Betty dijo: "A mi mamá no le importa si ensuciamos el piso". Juanita respondió: "Caramba, ¡Ojalá tuviera una madre tan linda y sucia como la tuya!"
Queridos Agatinos: La mayorıa de la gente da la bienvenida a los signos de la
primavera: las lores loreciendo, las hojas brotando, los pajaros cantando, los dıas se alargan... Y, a medida que las temperaturas se calientan, la mayorıa de las personas abren sus ventanas y puertas para dejar entrar el aire fresco. Pero toda esa luz y el aire fresco a menudo revela lo que tal vez no hayan notado durante los dıas oscuros y frıos del invierno: ¡su casa es un desastre! Ahı es cuando comienza la necesidad de la limpieza de primavera.
A medida que ventilamos las cosas, barremos las esquinas, fregamos los pisos, lavamos las ventanas y tiramos los alimentos viejos de la nevera, no obstante, debemos recordar que nuestra casa no es el unico lugar que necesita una limpieza profunda. Nuestra alma necesita un poco de orden, tambien.
Con el tiempo, las responsabilidades en el trabajo, los compromisos en la iglesia y los proyectos inacabados del hogar pueden acumularse, sobrecargar y desordenar nuestro corazon como un armario desbordandose en necesidad desesperada
de atencion. Sin embargo, a diferencia de la limpieza de primavera, no
tenemos que esperar hasta la primavera para realizar una limpieza espiritual. Y tampoco tiene que ser un proyecto grande y espantoso. La mejor manera de acercarse a la limpieza espiritual es a traves de los ojos de los ninos.
Primero, los ninos estan libres de posesiones. Sı, pueden tener un juguete favorito por un tiempo, pero pueden abandonarlo facilmente cuando encuentran algo mejor. ¡Cuanto mejor nos sentiremos cuando podamos igualmente abandonar las posesiones materiales que se interponen en el camino de alcanzar mas bienes espirituales!
En segundo lugar, los ninos estan libres de la corrección política. Diran lo que les venga a la mente sin preocuparse de lo que la gente pueda pensar de ellos. Nuestra alma sera mucho mas libre si dejamos de preocuparnos por la opinion de otras personas. En nuestra vida espiritual, de todos modos, todo es entre nosotros y Dios.
En tercer lugar, los ninos no tienen miedo de la pobreza.

亲爱的亚佳德人：
大多数人都欢迎春天的迹象：鲜花盛开，叶子发
芽，鸟儿啁啾，白天变长等等，而且，随着气温的升
高，很多人都想打开门窗让新鲜的空气进来；但是那
些阳光和清新的空气经常让我们看到冬天里黑暗和冰
冷的天气中所注意不到的：我们的房里一团糟！那是
要做春季大扫除的欲望的开始。
当我们把东西拿出来，打扫角落，擦洗地板，清
洗窗户，从冰箱里清除剩余食物时，然而，我们要记
得，我们的家不是唯一需要深度清洁的地方，我们的
灵魂也需要一些整理。随着时间的推移，工作中的责
任、对教会的投诚、以及家中还没有完成的工程会堆
积、颓丧和混乱我们的心，就像一个迫切需要整理的
满溢的柜子。
然而，和春季大扫除不同的是，我们不需要等到
春天才进行灵性的清洁；它也不必是一个大型而可怕
的工程。达到灵性清洁最好的方式是透过孩子们的眼
睛。
首先，孩子们不拥有财产。是的，他们可能会在
一段时间有最喜欢的玩具，但是当他们找到更好的东
西时，他们可以很容易地放弃它。当我们同样放弃阻
碍我们获得更多灵性财富的物质财产时，我们会感觉
多么美好！
其次，孩子们没有识时务的看法。他们会说出任
何想说的东西而不用担心人们会怎么想。如果我们不
再担心别人的意见，我们的灵魂会更加自由。在我们
的灵性生活中，无论如何，是我们和天主之间的事。
第三，孩子们不会害怕贫穷。孩子们不担心他们
明天吃什么或穿什么；他们不需要在银行里存钱；他
们满足于父母每天给他们的一切。将我们的灵魂从这
些世俗挂虑中解脱出来，我们的生活一定会充满更多
的喜乐和满足。
现在是我们做一些灵性春季大扫除的好时机。让
我们整理我们的灵魂，并以孩子般
的信仰而生活，“因为天国正属于
这样的人”(玛19:14)。

Servers who made the Principal’s List at Bishop Kearney High
School this past quarter. To be on the Principal’s List, a student

BLOOD DRIVE The 72nd Precinct of the New York Police Department is
holding a Blood Drive on Monday, May 20, from 12:00 PM to

2000 HAIL MARY’S All are invited to join our 2000 Hail Mary’s Prayer Group
to pray the rosary in front of the Blessed Sacrament from 9:30
AM to 3:30 PM on Saturday, May 25 (and every 4th Saturday of

ANOINTING MASS To pray for the spiritual and physical healing of our elderly
and infirm parishioners, we will have a Mass for the Anoin ng
of the Sick at 10:00 AM on the Feast of Visita on, Friday, May
31, in the Upper Church. The Sacrament of the Anoin ng of the
Sick will be administered during Mass. Volunteers will be
available to help anyone who needs assistance. Light
refreshment will follow a er Mass. All are invited. For more

MASS of INCLUSION Please join Catholic Chari es in welcoming people with
disabili es and those who are deaf at a Mass of Inclusion at
10:15 AM on Sunday, June 2, in the Lower Church of Our Lady
of Perpetual Help Basilica (526 59th Street, Brooklyn). At the
Mass, arrangements will be in place for people with physical,
mental or emo onal needs. Cap oning in American Sign

CELEBRATE MARRIAGE DAY All married couples are invited to a one‐day marriage
enrichment program called “Celebrate Marriage Day” at St.
Patrick’s Church (9511 4th Ave, Brooklyn) on Saturday, June 29,
Los ninos no se preocupan por lo que comeran o usaran manana. No necesitan tener dinero ahorrado en el banco. Estan contentos con lo que sus padres les dan cada dıa. Ordenando nuestra alma de estas preocupaciones terrenales, seguramente viviremos con mucho mas gozo y satisfaccion.

MISA de UNCIÓN Para orar por la sanidad espiritual y fısica de nuestros
feligreses ancianos y enfermos, tendremos una Misa por la Unción de los Enfermos a las 10:00 a.m. en la Fiesta de la Visitación, el viernes, 31 de mayo, en la iglesia de arriba. El Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos se administrara durante la Misa. Habra voluntarios disponibles para ayudar a cualquier persona que necesite ayuda. Why St. Luke the Evangelist is
represented by an ox?
Saint Luke is found in the lower right‐
hand corner of the mural behind the
altar in our Upper Church. The winged ox, a sacrificial animal,
is assigned to him because his Gospel, which deals with the
sacrificial aspects of Christ’s life, begins with the sacrifice
offered by Zechariah.

¿Por que San Lucas el Evangelista esta representado por un buey?
San Lucas se encuentra en la esquina derecha de abajo del mural
detrás del altar en nuestra iglesia de arriba. El buey con alas, un animal de sacri icio, se le asigna porque su Evangelio, que trata de los aspectos sacri iciales de la vida de Cristo, comienza con el sacri icio ofrecido por Zacarías.
