PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE Dear Parishioners: “Comfort, give comfort to my people.” These

are the very first words of this Sunday’s First Reading. These words were directed to “Jerusalem,” but not just the city itself. In this Sunday’s readings we find at least three meanings of “Jerusalem.”

The first meaning of “Jerusalem” is obviously the city that was Israel’s ancient capital. The name Jerusalem is variously interpreted as “foundation”, “vision” or “possession” of peace, which led the city to be called “city of peace.” But anyone who has been to the Holy Land recently or who follows world news knows that Jerusalem is anything but peaceful.

At the time of the prophet Isaiah, Jerusalem was in ruins, because the Jewish people had been conquered and exiled by the Babylonians. However, the prophet was telling those in exile that God had not forgotten them, that he would bring them home to Jerusalem. And He did bring them back.

A second meaning of “Jerusalem” is the Jerusalem still to come. This Sunday’s Second Reading turns our attention in this direction. It reminds us that Jesus will come again, bringing his Kingdom to fulfillment, and creating a new heaven and a new earth, in which God will wipe away every tear. Looking forward to that new heaven and new earth gives us great comfort, because it shows us that our sufferings here on earth have a purpose, and that they will not last forever.

But the third and most important meaning of “Jerusalem” is found in the Gospel. John the

Baptist addressed his prophecy to “all the inhabitants of Jerusalem,” to individual people, like you and me. In God’s perspective, every Christian soul is a sacred city, a holy Jerusalem. This is the most important Jerusalem; the everlasting Jerusalem. This Christmas, Jesus wants to make a fresh entry there, bringing each of us new gifts of wisdom and grace.

And that is our source of comfort. God has not forgotten about each one of us; he knows what we’re going through. He knows the headlines we are seeing and hearing every day. He knows how someone’s world collapses when their spouse suddenly walks out on them, when their doctor informs them that they have cancer, when their child is struck down in a horrible accident, when their company goes bankrupt, when their stockbroker calls and tells them the bad news about their retirement portfolio, when their bank forecloses on their home... God knows what we’re going through. But God has a plan for us; and he is guiding us toward the wisdom and fulfillment we yearn for.

The question is, are we ready to welcome the love, joy and peace of Jesus Christ into our inner Jerusalem?

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE CELEBRATION

Our parish’s celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe will begin on Monday, December 11, with a Vigil at 6:30 PM, Rosary at 7:00 PM, Folkloric Ballet at 8:30 PM, Mass at 10:00 PM, and Chinnelos Dance at 11:30 PM.

The celebration will continue on Tuesday, December 12, with the Mañanitas at 6:00 AM, followed by the run to the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, back for procession at 5:30 PM, Mass at 7:00 PM, ending with the reenactment of Our Lady’s appearance and ballet of St. Agatha in Kelly Hall. All are invited.

HOLY F@MILY CELEBRATION During the 10:30 AM Spanish Mass on Sunday,

December 31, we will celebrate the traditional Nativity Mass in honor of the Holy Family. All parishioners are invited. We ask that parents dress their children up as shepherds and angels or in any traditional vestments of their respective countries. After Mass, all are invited to the Lower Church for some refreshments.

OUR LADY OF THE CLOUD CELEBRATION

The Committee of Our Lady of the Cloud wishes to invite all Catholics in general and the Ecuadorian Community in particular to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of their arrival in Brooklyn

PERSPECTIVA DEL PÁRROCO Queridos Feligreses: “Consuelen, consuelen a mi pueblo.” Estas son las primeras palabras de la primera lectura de este domingo. Estas palabras fueron dirigidas a “Jerusalén”, pero no sólo propiamente a la ciudad. En las lecturas de este domingo encontramos al menos tres significados de “Jerusalén”. El primer significado de “Jerusalén” es obviamente la ciudad que era la antigua capital de Israel. El nombre Jerusalén se interpreta diversamente como “fundación”, “visión” o “posesión” de la paz, que condujo la ciudad que se llamaría “ciudad de la paz”. Pero cualquiera que haya estado en la Tierra Santa recientemente o que siga las noticias del mundo sabe que Jerusalén es cualquier cosa menos pacífica. En el tiempo del profeta Isaías, Jerusalén estaba en ruinas, porque el pueblo judío había sido conquistado y exiliado por los Babilonios. Sin embargo, el profeta

estaba diciéndole a los exiliados que Dios no los había olvidado, que los traería a casa, a Jerusalén. Y si los trajo de vuelta. Un segundo significado de “Jerusalén” es la Jerusalén que todavía está por venir. La segunda lectura de este domingo vuelve nuestra atención en esta dirección. Nos recuerda que Jesús vendrá otra vez, trayendo su reino a plenitud, y creando un nuevo cielo y una nueva tierra, en la cual Dios enjugará todas las lágrimas. Viendo hacia adelante, esperamos que el nuevo cielo y la nueva tierra nos consuelen mucho, porque nos muestra que nuestros sufrimientos aquí en la tierra tienen un propósito, y que no durarán para siempre. Pero el tercer y más importante significado de “Jerusalén” se encuentra en el Evangelio . Juan el

Bautista se dirige en su profecía a “todos los habitantes de Jerusalén”, a personas individuales, como tú y yo. En la perspectiva de Dios, cada alma cristiana es una ciudad sagrada, una Jerusalén Santa. Esta es la Jerusalén más importante; la Jerusalén eterna. Esta Navidad, Jesús quiere nuevamente entrar allí, trayendo a cada uno de nosotros nuevos dones de sabiduría y gracia. Y eso es nuestra fuente de consuelo. Dios no se ha olvidado de ninguno de nosotros; sabe por lo que estamos pasando. Conoce los titulares que estamos viendo y oyendo todos los días. Él sabe cómo el mundo de alguien se derrumba cuando su cónyuge de repente se aleja de ellos, cuando su médico les informa que tienen cáncer, cuando su hijo es golpeado en un accidente horrible, cuando su empresa se va a quiebra, cuando su administrador de la bolsa de valores llama y le da las malas noticias sobre sus ahorros de jubilación, cuando su banco le anula la hipoteca de su casa ... Dios sabe por lo que estamos pasando. Pero Dios tiene un plan para nosotros; y nos está guiando hacia la sabiduría y plenitud que anhelamos. La pregunta es, ¿estamos listos para acoger el amor, la alegría y la paz de Jesucristo en nuestra Jerusalén interior? Padre Vicente Do, Párroco Árboles y Coronas

神父的话 主爱的兄弟姐妹：

“你们安慰，安慰我的百

姓吧！”这句话是这个主日的

第一篇读经的第一句话。这句

话指向“耶路撒冷”，但是不

仅仅指耶路撒冷这座城而已。在这个主日的读经中，

我们会找到关于“耶路撒冷”至少三个不同的意思。

“耶路撒冷”的第一个意思当然是指以色列的古

都。“耶路撒冷”这个名字可以被解释为和平的“基

石”、“景象”、或“拥有”，使得这座城被称为“和

平之城”。可是最近到过圣地或收看世界新闻的人都

知道，耶路撒冷绝对不是和平的。

在先知依撒依亚的时代，耶路撒冷已成废墟，因

为犹太人已经被打败并流徙巴比伦，可是，先知告诉

那些流亡者，天主没有忘记他们，他将要把他们带回

耶路撒冷，而他也这样做了。

“耶路撒冷”的第二个意思是将要来到的耶路撒

冷。这个主日的第二篇读经给我们指向这一方面。它

提醒我们，耶稣将要再次来临，使他的王国得以圆

满，并创造一个新天新地，在那里天主将擦去一切眼

泪。对新天新地的渴望将极大地安慰我们，因为这代

表我们在世界上所受的痛苦不是无用的，且不会长

久存在。

第三个也是最重要的“耶路撒冷”的意思是在福

音里面。洗者若翰对“所有耶路撒冷的居民”说预

言，对每一个人说，就是你和我。在天主那里，每个

教友的灵魂都是一个圣城，神圣的耶路撒冷。这个是

最重要的耶路撒冷；永远长存的耶路撒冷。这个圣

诞节，耶稣想要全新地进入这个“耶路撒冷”，给我

们带来智慧与恩宠的全新礼物。

这是我们安慰的来源，天主没有忘记我们；他知

道我们的境遇。他知道我们每天的所见所闻；他知

道当配偶突然去世、医生告知患了癌症、孩子发生严

重车祸、公司破产、股票经纪人打电话来通知股票下

跌、银行强制变卖房产...的时候，一个人的世界会

崩溃，天主知道我们所经历的。但是天主为我们有一

个计划；他带领我们走向我们渴望的智慧和满全。

问题是，我们有没有准备好来迎接耶稣基督的

爱、喜乐与平安进入我们内在的耶路撒冷？

瑰经，八点半民俗芭蕾舞，十点弥撒，十一点半

墨西哥舞。

庆祝活动将于12月12日（星期二）继续，早

上六点开始祈祷，之后前往圣约瑟主教座堂参加

瓜达卢佩圣母奔跑，下午五点半游行，七点弥

撒，结束与在学校礼堂表演的瓜达卢佩圣母的显
