WHO? UXÍO NOVONEYRAIf you could merge the passion and seeking across the far borders of thought and poetic endeavour that is visible in the work of theAmerican poets C.D. Wright, Cid Corman, and Gary Snyder, you’d have one possible avatar— on the North American side of theAtlantic—for the Galician poet Novoneyra (1930 Courel—1999, Santiago).

Uxío Novoneyra was a man of a remote mountain past and accent that was shaped over thousands of years before it arrived in his chest and mouth and on his tongue. He was a man utterly inhabited by the popular culture of his people, which is rich and nuanced, as popular cultures are when we delve into their histories. He was a poet who gave himself totally to his culture. Influenced by the medieval troubadours of Galicia and Portugal, and poetries from Persia and China, to the Caribbean, through the Old Testament bumping up against the Beat Generation, Novoneyra was a poet devoted to language and to all that speaks outside of language, but that language yearns to attain or reach or bring into mention.

Having lived through the brutal grey decades of Francoist centralism in Spain, he was a man who spoke always on behalf of freedom and the right of peoples to determine their future.

He was a poet of the Land, of the equality of grasses and human being, of the weather, of the stones.

Today we’d call him an eco-poet, for the ecology of earth itself was critical to him. He was a poet of silence, of re-envisioning, too, for his classic book The Uplands (1955, and still in print today) was one he wrote through as a life-work. He was concise, tonal, rhythmic, gestural.

His calligrammatic poems remain unique in any poetry culture.

• Oldies (+65): Less levels of education. Civil war won by fascists. High perception of Literature and writers in general but not 4 them.

• Adults: Fascist state education. A bit of value to Culture in general but not 4 them. Writers is considered Left win-tox.

• Young Adults (till 40 years/old): Universal/Spanish and Galician Literature on Education. Rised on Welfare State. Digital migrants in terms of culture consumption.

• Youngsters (till 30):Reduction of Literature on primary and high school. Crisis sons in the sense of reduction of cultural consumption of families. Digital natives.

• Teenagers / Millenials (till18) More reduction of Literature on primary and high school. More English in change. Crisis grandsons in the sense of reduction of cultural policies from public administrations. Digital natives.

• Children (down to 18). Digital natives. 30% of education in english

• Littles (till 12): Folks and tales with Youtube and Netflix

CONTEXT FOCUSING: AUDIENCES: LITERARY-VULNERABLE GROUPS

• Rurals/Locals/Regionals: Redneck syndrome. Difficult to integrate them on any kind of cultural events. Consumption linked to incomes and family history.

• Nature tourism: Regional tourism hegemonic on Courel. Attracted by our hose-museum as unique cultural space on 60 km (bad weather)

• Woman: Gender inequality in literature too. Best peaks of literature peaks but only on different of their ranges of age, incomes, etc.

• Others: Mental´s/Chainned/ills does not have programmes of literacy reading on health centers, only art heritage. Supporting events.

• Lacks:

• English is readed only by 25% (last generations better but with bad teachers of English in public education). TV on Spanish and with reduction of Cultural/Literary contents.

• Young generations read Portuguese but not like its Literature a lot (Not smart-saved).

• People reads Spanish translations in Literature.
