2012 NOVEMBER STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP BULLETIN (Scholarships Enrichment Opportunities College Announcement)

Mrs Hendricks PMHS Scholarship Coordinator is located in Room 104 (across from the Book Room) She will help you with your applications convert your GPA and complete much of the counselorrsquos portion of your application Please give her two weeks to complete these requirements If you need a letter of recommendation from your counselor pick up a Letter of Recommendation Packet from Mrs Hendricks Return your completed packet to your counselor and give her two weeks to write the letter for you Please do not wait until the last minute

STEPS IN APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS 1 Pick up a scholarship application from the Scholarship Box in Room 104 or download it from the scholarshiprsquos

website 2 After you have selected the scholarship you wish to apply for fill out a Transcript Request Card in the Registrarrsquos

Office Do this immediately and donrsquot wait until the last minute Be certain to write the name of the scholarship on the card

3 The Registrar will give your transcript to Mrs Hendricks to hold for you District policy states that students are not

to be given their transcripts directly 4 Bring your completed application and all your documentation to Mrs Hendricks Mrs Hendricks should be your

last stop Your completed application documentation and transcript will be mailed from the school Students may not mail their own transcripts It is up to students to make and retain copies of any paperwork for their own records

5 For those applying online Once you have finished your online application you must tell Mrs Hendricks to mail

your transcript if one is required Do not assume that she will do this automatically without you telling her 6 Pay attention to the deadline There is a big difference between ldquoreceived byrdquo and ldquopostmarkedrdquo by deadlines

The bottom line is donrsquot miss your deadline It is your responsibility to request collect and deliver your documentation on time A good strategy is to turn in your paperwork at least one week earlier than the deadline requires

4 Contact the financial aid administrator at the schools you are interested in attending The will review your SAR and prepare a letter outlining the amount of aid (from all the sources) that their school will offer you

5 If you are eligible for federal student financial aid each school will send you an award letter The award letter tells you the types of financial aid they will offer and how much you will receive This combination of aid is your financial aid package

A note about Community Service Pasadena Memorial High School has a spirit of volunteerism Freshmen sophomores juniors and seniors should be keeping logs of their volunteer hours Throughout the school year students need to listen to homeroom MaVision and school announcements for opportunities to serve Mrs Hendricks will also post events on the school Facebook page Students should also stop by Room 104 and talk to Mrs Hendricks for opportunities as well Besides helping others and feeling good about themselves for doing so all PMHS students need to be aware of the accolades that are offered for community service

For 100 hours of community service seniors will be given a gold cord to wear at graduation

The District will award 5 seniors from each high school the prestigious Vanguard Award To be considered students must have at least 300 community service hours The recipients will have media write-ups have a group picture taken for a poster and will be honored at a reception at a School Board Meeting

Seniors will be awarded the Presidentrsquos Volunteer Service Award during Senior Award Night This award has many levels Bronze Silver and Gold

Community Service hours impress those reviewing college and scholarship applications Most scholarship applications ask students to list their community service involvement Several scholarships are offered for volunteerism

What seniors need to dohellipturn in their Community Service Logs to Mrs Hendricks in Room 104 as soon as possible Do not let these logs get lost or collect dust Mrs Hendricks needs a record of the volunteer hours as soon as they are earned All logs from previous years will be accepted Students do not have to fill up an entire log sheet before turning it in to her Folders with volunteer opportunities are located beside her desk Pull the information sheet and then sign up
