Enquiries related to your child’s learning or wellbeing or general enquiries in regard to the class should be directed to the class teacher or relevant RFF or support teacher in the first instance. If your enquiry is broader or you feel it has not been addressed to your satisfaction, you are then able to direct it to the appropriate Assistant Principal (Early Stage 1 & Stage 1 – Ms Williams; Stage 2 – Ms De Palo; Stage 3 – Mr Sheridan). Where appropriate, the Assistant Principal will then involve me in the process of addressing the issue. If you have an issue of a sensitive nature, you may wish to address this with me directly but please keep in mind resolving it may require the staff involved to be informed about your concerns. Please note email should not be used for complex matters – these are best discussed face-to-face by making an appointment. Coronavirus Update The NSW Department of Education is working closely with The NSW Ministry of Health in response to the unfolding international COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) situation. As communicated last week, the Federal Government has issued updated travel restrictions. Current advice is that any student who has left, or transited through, mainland China since 1 February, Iran since 1 March or the Republic of Korea (South Korea) since 5 March is excluded from school for 14 days from the date they left these areas. Any confirmed case of COVID-19 will be excluded until they are medically cleared to return. Close contacts of a confirmed case of COVID-19 will be excluded for 14 days since last contact with the confirmed case. The NSW Ministry of Health has processes to identify any close contacts of cases confirmed in Australia. Consistent with current guidelines, students who are unwell with respiratory illness should remain at home until symptoms resolve and parents should seek advice from their practitioner as to whether testing for COVID-19 is appropriate. Please note that since the emergence of this issue we have reiterated the importance of teachers ensuring appropriate handwashing before eating and have ensured cleaning staff are checking the availability of soap each day. We will work closely with The NSW Department of Education in regard to any developments and act according to their protocols and instruction. Please note that any decision to close a school within our system is not made by an individual school. Movie Night We are looking forward to the P & C Movie Night to be held this Friday evening from 5.30 p.m. At this stage the forecast is for a lovely evening so it should be a great event! Selective High School Test Those Year 6 students who applied to sit the Selective High School Test will do so tomorrow, Thursday 12 March. The test centre for our students who are sitting the test is Normanhurst Boys High School. Students need to arrive by 9.00 a.m. and the test will conclude at approximately 1.30 p.m. Parents are required to arrange transportation to and from the test venue. All parents should have received advice from the Department of Education High Performing Students Team regarding the arrangements. Information can also be accessed at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7 Classroom Visits During the last week I have visited 3J, 4R and 2I and participated in their literacy or numeracy sessions. It was wonderful to see the excellent writing work students in Stage 2 were completing and the brilliant number skills students demonstrated in the Stage 1 lesson. Positive Behaviour for Learning During this fortnight all classes are revising expectations for our playground and how our three school values relate to this setting. The Week 6 recipients of our PBL draw were Eli B, Declan F and Matthew G.

Merit Certificates Congratulations to the following students who received a merit certificate at last week’s assembly:

Cross Country

From this week, students will be training each day for the Cross Country to be held in Week 10. Could you please ensure appropriate footwear (i.e. joggers/running shoes) and a water bottle are packed in their bag every day. They are still required to wear their black shoes to school each day. We look forward this carnival in the coming weeks. Mr Rosewarn & Ms Bell Cross Country Coordinators

P&C News

Welcome Movie Night Friday 13 March from 5.30 p.m.

P&C Meeting Monday 16 March 7.30 p.m.

Our welcome movie night will be held this Friday 13 March from 5.30 p.m. The “Secret Life of Pets 2” will be on the big screen under the COLA and the P&C will be running a BBQ with plenty of drinks and snacks for purchase on the night. Attendance to the movie is free, so please bring your picnic rugs and cushions (we kindly request if you bring them only low-style beach chairs are to be positioned towards the back of the theatre or around the perimeter please). Thank you to the Westleigh Rural Fire Service who are bringing a fire-engine for the children to have a look at, please bring your gold coin donation to support our local volunteer fire service. Thank you to all of the parents who have already returned their P&C volunteer forms. As a small school, your help is greatly appreciated in assisting the P&C in fundraising activities. Monies raised by these events directly benefit the school - our most recent projects, the lower playground Astro-turf, new smart boards for the classrooms and new fans for the school hall are good examples of what our P&C fundraise for, so whether it’s time or money that you would like to pledge to this great cause, please return your form (as attached in today’s newsletter) and be involved. Our next P&C Meeting is next Monday evening in the Staffroom (end of the COLA near the library). This is an opportunity for all parents and carers to have your say and be involved in activities in our school. Please come and join our friendly conversation.

House-coloured Headbands (not available yet)

On Carnival days this can be worn as a traditional headband, or wrapped around a wrist or as a sweatband! We

are still gauging how much interest there would be for house-coloured items for the children to wear at the school’s

sporting carnivals (swimming, athletics, etc.) Please send us a quick email (address below) if it is something you

would consider purchasing for your child. Thank you!

Volunteers required

The uniform shop continues to rely on our volunteers to operate efficiently. We are particularly in need of more

help for the Friday 2.30-3.30 pm shift. Volunteering is a great way to meet new families at the school and it is fun!

If you would like to be involved in 2020, please do get in touch by sending me an email.

If you have any questions regarding ordering, or any other enquiry regarding the uniform shop, please get in

touch and we will be happy to assist.
