Classroom Visits This week I visited 4/5V and 5H and participated in their literacy lessons focused on grammar and reading. It was wonderful to see the students engaging so well in their lessons. 3B and 3/4D classrooms Installation of new carpet in 3B and 3/4D is due to occur this weekend. These classes will then be able to return to their rooms from next week. New Seating in K-1 Playground Area Last week new seating in our K-1 playground equipment area was installed, providing the students with a nice spot to sit and have a rest.
Drop-Off / Pick-Up Zone To make collecting your children from our pick-up zone streamlined, we have issued all parents with a surname label for their vehicle. This can be kept in the glove box or similar and displayed on the windscreen when you are accessing the pick-up zone. In this way, the staff member on duty will be able to quickly see who has arrived and ensure these students move to the vehicle from the waiting area inside our fence. Please note members of the executive team supervise the pick-up zone on Normanhurst Road as well as the students catching buses each afternoon, and our Crossing Supervisor is stationed at the crossing on Normanhurst Road. Accordingly, we ask that where you are not coming into the school grounds to collect your child, your child leaves via Normanhurst Road so that we can ensure their safe departure from school. Positive Behaviour for Learning Our school implements the Positive Behaviour for Learning program in both the playground and classroom settings. This week all classes will be discussing our school value of Strive for Success and how this relates to all settings in our school. The Week 4 recipients for our PBL draw were Reign S and Serafina Z. Striver Badges Congratulations to the following students who received a Striver badge at our last assembly: Blue badge – Arjun G and Jaxon K Red badge – Caroline H Citizen of the Month Congratulations to the following students who were selected as Citizen of the Month for their class for November:

________________________________________________________________________________________ Uniform Shop News Welcome Movie Night Friday 13 March from 5.30 p.m. P&C Meeting Monday 16 March 7.30 p.m. Thank you to all of the parents who have already returned their P&C volunteer forms. As a small school, your help is greatly appreciated in assisting the P&C in fundraising activities. Monies raised by these events directly benefit the school - our most recent projects, the lower playground Astro-turf, new smart boards for the classrooms and new fans for the school hall are good examples of what our P&C fundraise for, so whether it is time or money that you would like to pledge to this great cause, please return your form (as attached in today’s newsletter) and be involved. Our welcome movie night will be held on Friday 13 March from 5.30 p.m. The “Secret Life of Pets 2” will be on the big screen under the COLA and the P&C will be running a BBQ with plenty of drinks and snacks for purchase on the night. Attendance to the movie is free, so please bring your picnic rugs and cushions. Thank you to the Westleigh Rural Fire Service who are bringing a fire-engine for the children to have a look at, please bring your gold coin donation to support our local volunteer fire service. Melissa Logan P&C President ________________________________________________________________________________________ Uniform Shop News
Our regular opening hours are 8.30-9.30 a.m. and 2.30-3.30 p.m. every second week. Our remaining opening days for Term 1 are: Week 5: Friday 28 February Week 7: Friday 13 March Week 9: Friday 27 March Wide-Brim Hats We now have a small number of our wide-brim hats in stock in size XL. Please note that stock is limited. If you previously enquired about this size, please get in quick to secure your hat. Orders by Email Orders placed by email will be packed on a Friday and distributed to your child’s classroom. Please ensure that all email orders include a completed order form and proof of payment. The order form can be found here: http://www.npspandc.com/uniform-shop/. If you have any questions regarding ordering, or any other enquiry regarding the uniform shop, please get in touch and we will be happy to assist. House-coloured Headbands The uniform shop is looking at options for introducing some house-coloured items for the children to wear at the school’s sporting carnivals (swimming, athletics, etc.). This would be something low-cost, for example a headband that the children could wear to represent their house. We would very much like your help with gauging how much interest there would be for this. Please drop me a quick email (address below) to let me know if it is something you would consider purchasing for your child. Thank you!
Be Responsible. Be Respectful. Strive for Success.
Volunteering in the Uniform Shop The uniform shop continues to rely on our volunteers to operate efficiently. We are particularly in need of more help for the Friday 2.30-3.30pm shift. Volunteering is a great way to meet new families at the school and it is fun! If you would like to be involved in 2020, please do get in touch by sending me an email. Thank you to everyone for your continued support of the school uniform shop. The Young Archie competition 2020
The Art Gallery of New South Wales invites budding artists between the ages of 5 and 18 to
submit a portrait for the Young Archie 2020 competition. This year we are again encouraging and
organising for students at Normanhurst Public School to enter a portrait in the Young Archie
competition (for 2020).
This ART opportunity is open to any student at NPS who has an interest in creating a portrait style piece of artwork for entry in The Young Archie competition. We will select up to 6 portraits
for submission.
Ms Kate Brisot will be coordinating the submission. All entries should be submitted to Ms Brisot
before Monday 2 March 2020.
Please see the specific requirements below that must be followed: The portrait should be of a person who is special to you – someone who is known to you and who
knows you and plays a significant role in your life.
To be considered for selection, an entrant must comply with all entry instructions and conditions.
There are four age categories: * 5-8 year olds * 9-12 year olds * 13-15 year olds. The Young
Archie exhibition will be displayed at the Art Gallery of NSW.
Instructions and conditions:
• One artwork only per entrant
• Must be on paper (NOT board).
• Must be unmounted and unframed.
• Must be no smaller than A4 (210 × 297 mm) and no bigger than A3 (420 × 297 mm).
• Can be vertical or horizontal.
• Any art materials may be used (eg paint, pencil, pastels, paper collage) but the artwork must be
two-dimensional.
AND:
• Clearly label the back of the artwork with which way it should be displayed, along with class, name, age, address and contact details. Make sure this doesn’t show through to the front.
• Do NOT roll or fold the artwork. We suggest placing it between two pieces of cardboard to protect
it and keep it flat.

Term 1 Committee Meeting – 27 February 2020
Our Term 1 committee meeting is happening on Thursday 27 February 2020 at 6.30 p.m. in the NOOSH building. Our committee meets once a term to discuss all NOOSH related matters. We welcome all NOOSH parents, regardless of whether they are a part of our committee to come and join the discussion! Any NOOSH related issues or concerns may be raised/discussed in this meeting. Please email our Director, Kerri at: [email protected] prior to the meeting so that your input can be added to the agenda. This ensures that an opportunity to speak can be afforded to all!
2020 TBC bookings Some of our families may notice that their bookings for 2020 may have a ‘TBC’ instead of ‘Perm’ on our system. This unfortunately means you are on our waiting list. We have applied to increase our numbers with the relevant department, and we are waiting to hear back whether that has been approved. We are working hard to ensure that as many people are able to use our service as possible, and once our approval goes through, we will email all on the waitlist to confirm Permanent bookings. If you no longer require your permanent bookings please contact the centre if you have any problems cancelling your bookings.
Signing In and Out at NOOSH Some parents have given us feedback that they would like a NOOSH sign out sheet to be more accessible to them. We are now bringing down the paper rolls to the areas that we are in, and are trying to keep the children’s bags with them. We will also aim to put signs up near the canteen area to let you know which areas NOOSH will be using each day. Please ensure that your child is signed out every day from NOOSH. Our touch screen is the best way for you to sign out. We have provided the clipboards as a convenience to you, but we ask that you sign out in one of these two ways every day. If you have problems with sign out or if you have any suggestions on how we can improve this procedure please let us know.
Vacation Care Our vacation care bookings will open online in week 7. Some things to look forward to include: The Royal Easter Show, Kingpin bowling/laser tag, a beach clean up day, a drumming workshop, and a big science workshop. We look forward to seeing you there!
Our new kindergarten children! We would like to welcome all our new families to NOOSH this year! We especially would like to welcome all our new kindy kids! We’re excited to have them with us, and are enjoying watching them settle into NOOSH.
If you have any other questions, or need any assistance with anything related to NOOSH, please feel free to email us: [email protected] Rachel Warner NOOSH Assistant Director
