Residence Life

Nido is unique to most London student residences in that it has a Residence Life program. Nido employs Resident Assistants

(RAs) and a Residence Life Manager to support the well-being of residents as well as carrying out educational and social activities throughout the year. They help create a healthy, happy living environment in the Nido community through programming and

enforcing the Code of Conduct. Living in a residence hall can be an integral part of your learning experience while at University. For most students Nido will be a time of firsts: your first time living away from home, having a

roommate, living in a foreign country and the first time you are

truly responsible for taking care of yourself. Many of those firsts can be very challenging, but it is meeting those new challenges that makes living in a student community so rewarding!

One of the greatest benefits of living at Nido is the community that will develop around you. Studies have shown that students who live in residence halls do better academically, become more involved and have a more satisfying University experience than

those who live at home. Another benefit is the supportive staff members who are here to help you adjusting to these changes. The Residence Life department works hard to offer you many opportunities for fun and personal growth as well as support

your transition into a new living environment.

Resident Assistants (RAs) are live-in student staff committed to the personal and academic success of our residents, and that

means you! They are a resident’s first source for information,

problem solving and support. They also act in an on-call capacity to respond to emergencies overnight.

RAs live on different floors throughout the building and are available to answer your questions, help you connect with other residents and mediate any conflicts that might arise. You can meet them at programs or at the Reception desk in the evening.

RAs are responsible for hosting a variety of events each month.. If you have an idea for a great activity or special holiday feel free to share it with your RA! They may be able to plan a program around your idea in the coming months.

Programs are activities planned by Residence Life for all Nido Spitalfields residents. Past activities include weekly movie

nights, trips to museums, BINGO, board games, a holiday party, trips to attractions, an egg hunt, morning coffee, origami, games tournaments, charity fundraisers, fitness classes and trips to the theatre. Many events are free or offered at great discounts!

You will find a lot of programs take place in the main lobby area so it is easy to join in the fun. Out of house events usually require reservations as spaces will be limited. Do not wait until the last minute or you will be disappointed!

and the problem worsen.

A ‘Guide to Roommate Issues and Peaceful Confrontation’ is available at Reception to help you in starting the conversation

To give and get respect, personal safety, respectful communication,

respect of personal property, that rules are made together and any

conflict is resolved through compromise by all parties.

That your roommate will be your best friend, keep you company,

listen to you, do what you want to do, that you will have everything in common with them and that you are always right so your

roommate must change.
